So basicially, because a minority of PC gamers threw a big tantrum the majority who quietly ignored the game have overreacted?
The modern warfare 2 hate is perfectly justified, it's the sixth call of duty game (not counting expansions) and for some reason morons gobble it up and shower it with awards. It did nothing new, took out features and cost more than previous titles, and the worst part is that people though that this subpar game is somehow the best EVAR!!1
The hate is perfectly justified, I won't apologize for thinking it's a shit game anymore than I would for not liking the fucking Jonas Brothers..
actually, I paid right around $60 USD for it, just like WaW and CoD4.......oh wait, I see what your getting at, your a PC player and your pissed that you had to spend more money for the first time ever.
kinda funny, dont you think?
also, yes, it was overblown, remember the steam group that was made in protest of not having dedicated servers? and then at launch
every fucking member was playing MW2? remember how people cried "BAWWWW IZ 2 LAGGY [small] note: this is how pc gamers talk, FACT. [/small] GIEF DEDICATED SURVERS NAO!" and yet there was little to no lag at launch, with the exception if your internet connection didnt suck, as I stated in numerous threads also.
yes, because a small group of PC gamers went fan-boy elitist on people like a majority of FLAC'ers ironically, people thought it was the cool thing to do.
my question;
if the game is horrible, why are people still, STILL, playing it?
If Britney Spears is white trash, why do people still worship her? If smoking kills, why do people do it? If George W.Bush is a moron, how come so many people supported him?
Oh wait, no that's a stupid argument, people are stupid and will support whatever has the most persuasive marketing. Note my comparison to the Jonas Brothers, that wasn't a random choice of words, my opinion is that the two are comparable, both popular because of clever marketing.
As for the people playing it on the first day, so what? Only a minority of the people who didn't buy the game felt the need to announce to the world that they were taking part in a pretentious boycott. A page of a steam fan group showing people playing something they claim to be boycotting changes nothing, it's still nothing special. Not to mention how these people are obvious fans of the serious, caring enough to petition the developers to change it...
Little to no lag at launch? Of course not, except, y'know, for the majority of consumers
who don't happen to live in the U.S.A. You see, this is why people get so pissed off with Americans, just because one system is appropriate for you guys doesn't mean it is for the rest of the world. I live in Australia, and I don't pretend to be a part of any pretentious boycott, I never bought modern warfare 2 but a few of my friends did. I've played the game a fair bit, and like every other matchmaking system I've used, it's terrible. GFWL failed for this exact reason, I'm not supporting a poor system tacked onto a mediocre game because it's a part of a familiar franchise, I'm sorry. Different platforms have different requirements, just because matchmaking is the best and most appropriate option for the consoles doesn't make it so for computers (I'll skim past the 'not all computers are born equal rant and just assume that you're intelligent enough to see what it's not the same). Oh, here's another fun addition to my argument, one of my friends who has it, hasit on PS3 and before it was patched
it was unplayable due to lag, instores the game costs $110au here, kinda pricy for something that
doesn't work (it does work flawlessly now, since the patch he has been able to play fine). In essence, this game is far superior on consoles than it is on PC (though as I pointed out, on release it was equally shit on at least the PS3), because the PC was a 'dumb' port that wasn't in any way optimized for the platform. If you can't be fucked releasing a game on a platform,
don't. I really won't hold it against you, but it's bullshit to drop the standard of games while bumping up the price, I understand that it's an easy way to make a quick buck, but it makes you an asshole.
The game on Steam costs $90. That's the cost of it online, steam is typcially cheaper than boxed copies in Australia. I recently bought myself a new copy of the
collectors edition of Demon's Souls (unfortunately it's not available anymore, however here is a
linkto the base copy on playasia, as you can see it's about $71au). As you can see, a game on bluray costs $20 less, $15 after you account for postage. A few months ago, a game called brutal legend came out, I bought that on my xbox 360 (Yeah, I have all current gen consoles, assuming I'm a PC fanboy makes you look a little stupid at this point) and it cost $75 new on release from a local electronics store. Point is, I'm happy to pay the going rate for games, but not above average price for a sequal to a well established PC franchize that has been developed exclusively for consoles and ported to the PC at the last second.
***** and moan all you want about PC games being cheaper than PS3 and Xbox 360 titles, but bear in mind the dics (especially blu rays) are not cheap, and that you wouldn't pay the same for a game release on PS2 as you would for the same game on PS3 (all the guitar hero games cost less on wii and PS2, where are all the people bitching about PC games being cheaper everytime one is released?).
Again, to reiterate, I will not apologize for thinking a subpar game is shit, and I'll hate it as much as I feel appropriate. I never said it was the worst thing to happen to gaming. Swine flu wasn't the worst thing to happen to humanity yet I still hate that, just because worse things have existed doesn't suddenly make it less susceptable to my hate. The game is a peice of shit and the hate it gets (largely due to it's immense success despite it's beyond mediocre gameplay) is 100% justified. It honestly shits me how all the console only gamers sit there smugly while what is
a shared hobby between platforms gets cheapened by this shit, PC gamers are worried that this will lead to paid subscriptions for all FPS multiplayers, why the fuck would you think consoles are immune to this trend if it begins on the PC?
