So I havent bought any of the past CoD games, or BF, Ive just never been a big FPS person, and almost everyone I've ever seen/heard online while playing at a friends house or at school was a complete ah... troll... but i was going to buy MW3 partly because I've liked playing it enough at other peoples houses that i thought i would get it, and partially so people have something to play at my house because I really only play one player games, and am just not a big fan of the online communities of any game for the same reason as CoD but usually to a lesser degree. But after hearing about the free exp with doritos and other chips, my brother and I both strongly feel that we shouldn't by it because we dont want to support this marketing strategy/sponsorship or anything having to do with it.
We are both "hardcore" gamers, and I personally think the Wii and people pandering to casual gaming can get struck by lightning for all i care, and the trend is worsening the quality of games and gaming a a whole, but oddly enough the subway thing for uncharted 3 Multiplayer doesn't bother me...

so are you going to buy MW3, wait until the price drops, or not buy it at all? why or why not, and has anything changed your stance on the matter?

I have no problem with buying it. Although I hate the business ethic of MW3, It still looks like it could have a few fun moments in it.

But i'm poor, so I'll wait until the price drops.

I am definitely going to buy MW3. I crave multiplayer games, and I like shooters.

What is this Doritos thing? They give you exp if you buy Doritos or something?

For new players, it will probably pretty good. For anyone who has played the other Modern Warfares, it looks a little samey.

On the whole: Modern Warfare 3 is like a blockbuster film; lots of guns, tanks and things exploding in slow motion. Not cerebral, but entertaining enough.

I'd say rent it and see.

My brother preordered it, but I'm trying to convince him not to get it.

I love CoD but so far everything I'm hearing and seeing worries me. I hear in a certain class type even if you die hundreds of times you can still build up killstreaks with no resetting. I can already imagine everyone abusing that and calling non stop airstrikes.

I will not be buying the game as MW2 was (after almost 20 years of gaming) the worst game I have ever played. It's deceptive too; at first I liked it, completed campaign in veteran (it was poor), competed spec-ops in veteran (it was so-so), played some online and BAM - unfair multiplayer, tools of a community, glitches, bugs, easily exploitable loopholes, hackers, more glitches, more bugs, more exploitable methods to win, more glitches, more bugs, more children online squealing (looking at box & it's an 18), more bugs, heavily connection-based duels, overpowered weapons, broken weapons, poor spawns, bad balancing, poor map design, more bugs in the game engine and very little support in the way of patches.

That was such a shame considering CoD4 is in my Top 10. MW2 was in development for 9 months and that's jsut not long enough to build a AAA game and to compare; MW3 started development on the 29th April this year. That's little over 6 months development time come release and it shows. MW3 looks nearly identical to it's predecessor, Activision even had to herd in Sledgehammer Games, Raven Software AND some developers from Treyarch just to help IW to get it done in time. Lets not forget it won't even be fully tested come release.

So, in answer of your question: No. I will not be buying Modern Warfare 3 as the pure reason of its existence is because Activision want to squeeze every last penny out of all blind consumers they can possibly get. Of the development team who made CoD 4 - most of them told Activision to shove it where the sun don't shine & started up their own company Respawn Entertainment. So even then I don't care for the developers "hard work" on MW3(which is non-existent).

PS a lot of MW3 is just cut & pasted from MW2 and MW1. With a large portion of *new* stuff actually being stuff that was never made available in time for MW2. Doesn't really sound like £45 of a game to me.

Not buying it. Wasn't going to before I'd heard of this because it's frankly not remotely worth the money. Now that I've learned of this "business strategy" it's as disgusting to me as it is boorish and repetitive. No. Nope. No no no...

I remember playing 1,2, and 3 a long time ago on my PS2. So when I finally had enough cash to get a 360 (like, four years after it released or something...it was a long time.) I thought, oh cool, I'll check out 4 aka Modern Warfare. Totally not the same game, I wondered why they even kept the same name. So after getting let down by four I picked up MW2 despite the fact that I hate people who bring it up because they are usually like Rob from Ctrl+Alt+Del. (Read: fucking annoying) And that game, while it sucked from the view of a video game aficionado, I got addicted, like heroin addicted. I still to this day fucking love the hit marker sound. So after playing for three days straight and yelling at my family I realized, "I cannot play this game anymore." So I traded it in and never picked it up again, thus never touching Blops. And I really have come to hate the whole franchise (besides the first three.) so I won't be buying it. But I still see the Doritos thing as really stupid.

I'm tired of shooters. In a given year at least 70% of the games being released are shooters. The market is just plain fucking oversaturated.

Unless they're putting Doritos IN THE GAME, then I don't see the problem.

I'm probably still getting MW3, because I've never gotten into a CoD game at the beginning. Hell, Black Ops is the only one I've played for any significant amount of time, and I didn't start that until several months ago.

Not buying it any time soon.

I'd like to own MW2 and Black Ops before getting into MW3. I figure when Steam gets around to selling these titles at extremely good discount of $5 or $10 each I'll pick them up for the single player experience. As such, my purchase is quite possible a few years down the road.

Oh joy, another thread talking about how games like COD, or "casual" games like the Wii's library are ruining the quality of games as a whole.

Get off your high horse. Just because you don't like somthing or don't want to buy it doesn't mean it's bad.

As for me, I don't plan on buying MW3. But not because I'm part of the anti-COD bandwagon, I'm just not interested in it what's so ever.

i will not be buying any shooter that is not exceptional and at-least has some new mechanic
i'm bored of shooters.
i played mw2 for more hours than i care to admit, and a couple other shooters here and there.

i've had enough shooters for now.

mw3 / bf3 / resistance 3 / anything else with a 3 can go rot in a field until i've caught up on everything else.

You must not play very many games then.
Nah, just my PC collection must've been twice the size of my lifetime Xbox 360 games-played (if not twice the size again). That's not including PS2, Original Xbox, PS1, Handheld, N64, Dreamcast or SNES.

I tend to give crap games the benefit of the doubt as they're almost always NOT big releases; something I did not give MW2 as it was a sequel to one of my favourites and was deemed a AAA title.

EDIT: But when a game cheats tens of hours out of your life just for it to dawn on you "wow, this game is so terrible if it wasn't CoD it would've been disowned by reviewers." Then when you tell your friends, they disregard you for being crazy... until now, where they've finally seen MW3 & can only agree with me or look monumentally stupid.

I'll probably get it after a price drop. And by price drop, I mean when I find it for £25 second hand.

Oh, and also this.

So very this.
