Who cares about the name. Wii, Xbox and Playstation are hardly exciting revolutionary names to be calling a console. Kinect is stupid too, I doubt that it's going to hurt the sales though. People will just get used to it. Natal would have been an even worse name. It refers to birth. A fine name for a project but a dumb one for the product.

Let's be honest; Microsoft would never dare do anything interesting with Natal/Kinect/Wave because the media would come down on them like a ton of bricks. Of course, it may say something about me that my idea of an interesting Kinect game mostly consists of hurting something with my bare hands (first person fighting games, for example), but that's the only thing of interest that could be done with the technology. And people like Fox would crucify Microsoft if they went anywhere near the idea.

Natal sounds pretty damn pretentious, but Kinect still doesn't really seem to fit or make sense, and it's trying waaaay too hard to look cool by misspelling stuff.

According to comments, they were considering Wave?? That's so much better than Natal or Kinect. For one, it fits. You play it by waving your arms and legs around like an idiot, and the name just flows better. Xbox Wave? What's that? Sounds cool.
I think it's trying to be kinetic + connect rather than trying to misspell it. Still not a great name but people won't care by time it's released. Google already has Google Wave. They're not remotely the same thing but it wouldn't surprise me if that has something to do with it.

This is hilarious. They accidently killed Natal by inviting reporters to play it. Ladies and gentlemen, we are witnessing a cover up.

Im not too bothered by the name, being honest though. Motion gaming blows, the wii is fun when theres about 8 of you and beer involved. The rest of the time i want nothing to do with motion gaming, i play games to chill out and relax, not bounce around like a lunatic. I definitely won't be purchasing for this reason.

Motion capture stuff has always been awesome to me in theory, but I've never really seen it work out the way I want it to. I mean, you gotta admit that it'd be way cool to herp derp around the living room and see your avatar do EXACTLY what you're doing, except fighting horrible monsters and blowing up shit. But I don't see that happening without it glitching and causing a great deal of rage quitting. Or, conversely, it'll work but be utterly boring. See the Wii sports resort game.

So, yeah, I'll cross my fingers that it will be neat but I'm not exactly expecting it to be anything more than a kiddie ride.

And people actually care about the name change? For reals? I don't think a damn name really matters all that much.

I don't like motion controls. I want to relax when I am playing a game, not waving my arms around like an idiot. So, I really don't care what it's called really.

It's not forcing you to use it, it's just a different alternative...sure games are to relax, but they are also their to have fun, and i for one have loads of fun playing the Wii whenever i can.

"These ranged from jumping and flying games to a yoga simulator and Star Wars shooter, in which players control a virtual light sabre and use hand gestures to control action on the screen."

'Natal' just keeps singing 'Nasal' to me, so It always seems shudder inspiring.
This is a better project name, and it's clear somebody boned the dictionary to be able to splice 'kinetic' and 'connect' so un-noticably. ... ... Yup.

If Microsoft can persuade Bohemia Interactive to support a Tracker IR style head tracking interface with their Kinetic technology, I'm interested.

Have you seen the new adverts for it. Horrid Deja vu of the Wii adverts.
Oh lookie, a suburban white family enjoying motion controls playing shovelware.

motion control just isnt flawless enough yet to be worth while, it will only ever be a crappy gimick that publishers relise very quickly isnt going to work for 90% of games, but a few will try to force it in any way... its fine for the casual gamer and alot more fun but i really dont think it will catch on any time soon to any seriuse relises, if i see a release like dragon age for motion capture itd be intresting but trying to thinck how that would work... it just dosnt... so it will be fun for some casual gamers and microsoft fanboy to flail there arms infront of the screen with a bit more accuracy then they did on the eyetoy or what ever other ones there where but thats about it.

"Kinect" sounds like something Yahtzee would pronounce instead of "connect" in a review for Far Cry 2.

Motion control is a waste of time, money, and dignity. I really do think that Microsoft are trying to become the captain of a sinking ship as far as that goes.
Can you are argue with the Wii's profits? It may suck, but it is profitable!
