... I'm not buying that for 60$..
Or 759 sek (kr). No matter what name you put on it.
... I'd have to say, "Sex machine" would kind of lure me though.

I mean, sensor controls are cool until they start to lag in multiplayer, making the attacks come even MORE behind schedule. It's bad enough as it is!

I think a much more interesting question would be why they named it Natal in the first place? Surely there are less pretentious project names MS could have used...

But yeah, the name has nothing to do with it failing, even though I hate the misspelling of "kinetic" (and don't tell me it's supposed to be that way, they are too stupid or pretentious to spell correctly). It's the damned concept that sucks...

Can you are argue with the Wii's profits? It may suck, but it is profitable!
True, but motion control in itself is nothing more than the latest gimmick. Nintendo did very well out of the Wii because the main target audience for the Wii (and indeed all Nintendo systems) was primarily kids, who happen as a group to be naturally inclined towards gimmicks and fads. My concern is that now that it's been done before, and given that traditionally Xbox have targeted the more 'mature gamer', will Microsoft enjoy the same sucess as Nintendo? I don't think they will.

yea i guess its more cathy than there first choice "Overpriced motion capture cam whit no games exept a handfull of sports and child molesting games from lionstudios and possible microsoft"
Hopefully it will get better games than that...I'm waiting until it's been out for at least 6 months. If the games and reviews are still poor, I'll pass. Until then, I think it MIGHT have a chance...all depends. Hopefully, those quality assurance people are getting it right. For example, I'd like to see it being used like this:

If Microsoft can persuade Bohemia Interactive to support a Tracker IR style head tracking interface with their Kinetic technology, I'm interested.
which makes it seem very logical, especially since I find myself making some of those movements while gaming anyways. I think Microsoft should have this guy write the scripts to their ads, especially the last half of the video. It would sell more copies than videos of idiots flailing about like they're on drugs...which I suspect was just a poor choice of a demonstrator since most gamers wouldn't respond like that. I think it could be a quite good if done right...or it could fail horribly. Let's hope it doesn't end up like the Titantic.

BTW, a Trackir 5 pro costs $170, regular is $150, and 4 pro is $100...in case you're curious.

wow the whole point of gaming is being spoiled.

the whole point of gaming is to have a bit of fun. say coming back from a hard day at work/college/school and you want to play a vidoe game. i one where you control with a mouse and keyboard/controller wii mote.not wave your arms around like a retarded spider monkey. as long as game controls dont have any force feedback, there is no point to gaming. it is instead, virtual reality not gaming. i rest my case.and problem with natal.

It is a better name, but I still don't care about it. Personally, I only care really about the Wii's motion controls.

Thats really cool but youll note that since it's an IR tracker it requires an IR transmitter on the guys hat or headset. What Natal, or Kinetic I guess is supposed to do is eliminate the need for a reference device or transmitter of any kind on the user. The cameras in Microsofts device are intended to map the users body and then use its movements to control the application. This device would require a transmitter for every user, Kinetic could in theory support several users. The big thing going on in this video is using headtracking to alter perspective, while Kinetic is technicly capable of this which would be a subtle use of the tech to greatly improve immersion, i fear for a library full of shovelware instead of smart use like this. Just kind of the nature of the beast on consoles, but hopefully some devs will give us what we want. This type of application in FPS and Racing games would be cherry.

I'm going to go with the "Who cares" option. I'm not into motion control very much and this seems like an obvious attempt to steal from the Nintendo motion control monopoly. The name still sounds kind of...dumb...

Given how utterly ridiculous naming your peripheral after the adjective for relation to birth is? Kinect is better.

(Just because they say to pronounce it some other way doesn't mean I will.)

Hopes for the XBox 360's lifespan being divided into "Prenatal" and "Postpartum" are thusly quashed.

How about save the money and not even make it.. The majority of 360 owners dont want motion control.. that's why they own a 360. Me being one of them.

I don't care what they name "Natal" or "Kinect", I'm not gonna buy that, but the new X360 on the other hand..
It's got an integrated WiFi adaptor, better cooling = Less noise, is thinner and a 250GB HDD.

This product is not for us. It's for families with small children and college students who've only played Singstar and madden games before.

HA! Maybe now everyone and their grandmother will have an Xbox and will be playing Halo by flailing their arms around like 2 year olds.

Its not just that, a lot of people are totally missing the big picture of what natal sorry kinect can do. In theory anyway.

I will agree im in the crowd that does not like full on motion control. Esp on something like call of duty or a driving game. But it really does have massive potential for other things. Im thinking minority report type computer control.

But its the voice recognition stuff that im really interested in. Imagine being able to issue orders to a squad in a shooter.

Also I did bring this up a while back about it being able to scan objects and stuff. I was wondering would you be able to use props. Like say with a sword fighting type game could I get a stick and kinect would track that as the sword. Same goes with guns.
Yeah, the potential of this tech had me excited, but it sounds like Microsoft's dropped the ball and missed a killer opening with some decent AAA titles to show what it's potential is. Ah well, there goes its credibility.

Natal > Kinect. Natal sounded more cool and foreign, Kinect just pisses me off with it's grammatical error.
