So I was thinking, Are all these natural disasters a lead-up to the climatic 2012 end of the world or are they just a series of tragic events with no relation?
If it is the end of the world, how do you think it will go down. Like the movie 2012 or something more like aliens or zombies?
I put "not sure" (first one to do it) but that doesn't mean I'm backing an end of the world scenario.
I've occasionally make a few comments about the 2012 thing, because honestly this is uncanny. On the other hand that general "prophecy" makes little sense, especially considering it's origins. Not so much because of the comments on them deciding to simply end the calander in an odd place, but because I can't see many scenarios in which the Mayans could have come upon this knowlege that would have totally eluded modern man. It's a similar situation to other doomsday prophecies and the general lack of reliable information or a consistant chain of sources, etc... even if your unusually open minded.
That said, there are other options. There is what Robert Heinlan referred to as "X weapons". X simply standing for "unknown" with the catagory referring to weaponry that goverments hold back or don't reveal to the public until needed. Nuclear weapons have been around for decades, yet we haven't see any serious next generation weapons despite billions of dollars being spent on the militay technologies of most first world nations.
The idea of ecological warfare has been around for a very long time, ranging from studies by the Russians about forcing large scale changes through finding ways to divert, plug up, or literally vapourize entire rivers, to various science fiction weapons.
It honestly doesn't strike me as being *totally* ridiculous that some of this *could* be various goverments F@cking around. Tests and countertests of weapons without the public being aware of it in general.
It's interesting to note that two of the most major hits recently have been areas that are very signifigant to the US if an East Vs. West war was to break out, at a time when deny it as much as you want, tension between China and the US have ben fairly high. Japan is pretty much under US occupation and plays host to a massive portion of the US Navy, and Australia is well known to be a US ally and presents a rather annoying obstacle if such a conflict was to break out.
We don't know the placement of all the resources of various nations, or without a doubt who is whose ally, place host to what bases, or whatever else. It's always possible we're looking at some rather extreme back and forth between say the US and China using enviromental warfare without either side informing the general public or issueing a declaration of war.
Granted this is unlikely (so don't misinterpet it) I'm just saying there are plenty of odd theories out there short of "OMG it's the apocolypse" and the more stuff that happens, the more uncanny it seems to be. Sure it could all be natural phenomena, and that's the most sane and likely answer, but to be honest as more and more stuff happens it becomes increasingly dificult to dismiss it, and to think there is some kind of pattern or common thread that we just aren't seeing.
Time will tell if nothing else will.
