Did you see what I did there?

(This is a joke, the person I quoted has a MLP avatar, and I am merely pointing out that his/her response being 'neigh' instead of 'nay' would have been a humourous pun. No offence was intended, any offence incurred is purely coincidental.)

I dont really care, i don't plan on breaking the rules anyway so.
Although i found it funny that in the first set of rules under flaming, calling someone a troll will get you banned.
Yet the next rule is no trolling...

I forgot to say this a dozen pages back, but I really do not like how your health bar is out in the out for all to see, or even visible for the user to see. I would rather not know how close I am to being permabanned and having to dumb down or even avoid posting my opinion just because I could suffer the wrath of some mod who is having a bad day.

A message board should be a place to share opinions, NOT a minefield.

The new rules are created based on a lot of feedback from the community over a large amount of time. They actually haven't changed as much as updated as per members' request. Now we just give examples which again, members asked for.

As for seeing warnings and probations get erased, currently it's not going to happen. We are holding people accountable for their actions and we feel 8 strikes is more than enough. 99.9% of the forum members don't have more than 2 warnings (if I'm not mistaken, 82% don't have any infractions). If people can't learn how to be respectful towards others and follow very simple rules, they won't be here for long. Everyone has a bad day but even off of the internet, if you do something stupid on that bad day, you are held accountable. The same goes for The Escapist forums.

As for the forum health bars, we were tired of hearing "why did this person only get a warning and this other person get a suspension?" Well, now you can tell because we've laid it out for you.

I'm not saying there won't be changes in the future but at this time this is what we are sticking with.
We both know that statistic is largely inflated by inactive posters/accounts. The new rules seem to discourage discussion because, now, a mistake is there forever.

Sir, I am OFFENDED by such a remark! *Takes off gloves and smacks you in the face* A duel, good sir!

OT: Don't really mind them. I don?t use adblock (nor do I want to), I don?t pirate things, use drugs, or own CP, so I think I am safe thus far. I have not gotten a warning yet, and I really want the Neo badge, so I think I will be a good little boy.

The first rule - don't be a dick - has priority over all other rules and is vague to the point of making all other rules redundant. Given that this has not changed, I don't see how anything else has changed either. The mods can still classify anything they want as "being a dick" and doll out whatever punishment they feel like. Having a health meter just tells us that they do keep track of repeat offenders, nothing more.

The moderation on this site is for the benefit of the users, site statistics show almost 90% of you have never gotten more than a few warnings, as a result you shouldn't have any trouble.

The 8 strike system is to make it easier for trolls to be banned, however the system won't be used against normal users in the same way. If you're on level 5 because you were a naughty child two years ago, we'll take the 2 years of quality posting into account.

Ultimately this system is new and we'll tweak it as necessary, it shouldn't stop you from enjoying everything this site has to offer, so don't worry about it.
You say that, but I hope you'll forgive me if I take a "wait an see" approach to this. This isn't the first forum that I've been on that has taken this approach to moderation and it resulted in killing the community, not nurturing it.

The rules themselves aren't bad. I'll give you that. Having the ability to view your own warnings/probations is nice, but the permanency of said infractions bothers me.

That is why we give 7 chances. Don't think I'm trying to push you, or anyone else, off either. I completely understand where you are coming from as we've had this discussion internally before we could even think about launching the new penalty system and updated rules (which has been months now). We just feel that we do give chances, 8 of them, and those who can not hold it together for The Escapist to have to tell someone 8 times that isn't how you behave is more than enough.
My problem with that is I've had half of those chances skipped over. I'm in the yellow and I've only ever had one post break the rules. Never got any warnings, it was straight to probation the first time. So now anything I do is automatically a suspension, and even though that was quite a long time ago I'm 3 away from a permanent ban.

I... I think we just pulled an Inception...

OT:?
Offensive Posts
Please read what you wrote before you post it and think if anyone else could find it offensive
Just wondering: If I were to post something offensive, like ?All kittens should be banned?, but can back it up with fact, does it still count? Small question, but likely I can find someone to be offended by anything

Can always make a new account, and let's face it, you would have had to have been a jerk to get to that point in the first place.
No, because that's against the rules.
Well if you're getting infractions you've clearly not much care or caution in what rules you obey. As for being able to avoid getting caught, there are plenty of ways.

So I'm yellow for a probation that I got nearly two years ago. Well that sucks!
Oh well, I'll just keep on then.

Well I'm offended by your offense at my offense of-

(This is a joke, I did not detonate a nuclear device, that was a video, nor do I condone the use of nuclear devices in any shape or form, unless of course you are pro nuclear device, in which case, I love nuclear devices. No offence is intended. Any offence incurred is purely coincidental.)

This is... terrible.
I've been a model forum citizen for over a year now, but the few small warnings and probations I received before that are still counted against me?
Dear Escapist, this penalty system needs a partial revision. Seriously. :(
