I still didn't see it, but I didn't post in a while. Maybe I'll get it with this post. *furthering discussion*

Edit: maybe I wasn't paying attention before but I don't see anything radically new here, except the first degree of moderation "warning". And maybe a more detailed version of the "don't be a dick" clause.

Edit2: I also feel slightly voyeuristic checking out people's profiles now, but it's fun. ^^

As long as the basics are the same, I'm fine. Just don't be an ass to people, and have some common sense, and you're usually all good. Though I don't see the point on making everyones warning history public knowledge. To be honest, it seems kind of immature.

We can't be perverts anymore!? WHAT!? The likely hood of me getting banned in the next few days is very great now.

New rules, what new rules?

they just made the penalties stricter right? I'm kinda against that actually, but I have no control over it. If it helps the community then I guess I'll get behind it eventually.

"but you ordered 3 pepperoni."
"I fear change."

Probation: You are on probation. All infractions while on probation result in suspensions. The third infraction results in a permanent ban from the forums. Yay, how freaking stupid, time to use an alt account whenever I enter a debate and just use this account for "this" or cheerleading post... I only remember one legit probation and have been here for 3 years or so, and my bar looks like im a troll. I figure this will be changed soon enough.

And the advice forum needs to die in a fire
I may regret asking this, but... why? I seem to remember reading somewhere in one topic that some commotion blew up when it was brought in (I don't think i was around at the time, I'm sure it's been there since I've been a member), but I don't see the problem Then again, maybe I'm just being thick again...
I may have been too harsh.

When it started it was almost nothing but trolls, making (probably) fictitious threads about high-school drama. or the attention seekers wanting to air their insipid problems. Because the staff knew it was going to be a problem area, they gave the forum mods carte blanche in that forum only to enforce the rules differently to the rest of the site which resulted in a number of unfair probations.

Plus it attracted whiny emotionally crippled attention seekers to the site so all you could see in the recent forum posts box was:

Sooo there's this girl.....
I want to date my best friend's boyfriend.
My cat is causing my girlfriend to leave me.
Forbidden love between a jock and a geek.
Soooo I want to date my boyfriend's best friend.
I think my best friend is cheating on her boyfriend.
Soooo I think my girlfriend is cheating on me with my best friend.

I've avoided it religiously because of that and just now poked my head in because of your question and it seems to have improved; there were only 3 whiny threads on the front page the rest was useful advice threads. So it may have improved since I last went in there.

The only remaining reason for it to go is that the mods still keep the practise of putting anyone who makes a joke there on probation. Saying that this place is to discuss people's serious problems and making light when someone is suffering will not be tolerated.
Ah, that makes sense, thanks :)

As I mentioned earlier, I think it came in before I joined the site, and it took me a few months to even start posting, so it looks like I missed all that trouble.

*posts to see these new rules*

Hm, doesn't seem much different to how it was last time I read them.

I'm not fussed.

I didn't even bother reading it.

Could somebody be arsed to outline the changes that have been made in it from the old rules?

Sooo now everyone can see how many screw ups they and others have had? That's ....kinda not alright. Shouldn't that be between you and the mods?
Thats something I feel too, like it gives others a way to silently judge your past.

I'm just wondering why ad-blockers are now rated at the same level as child porn.

I get that they fuck up the business model, but seriously?

And to clarify, I'm not advocating their use ok?
well they get sponsored by the people paying for the adds so it kinda makes sense.
OT
I don,t like the idea of a "health bar" but if you abide by their rules you should be fine although it,s kinda weird that add blocking is considers a very high offense.
Then again I can,t change it (at least this isn't as bad as youtube).

Ultimately this system is new and we'll tweak it as necessary
And this is exactly what I thought was going to happen, and why I'm perfectly fine with the rules getting a bit of an overhaul.

Hi Spin quoting you because I think this is your domain:

rules said:
This includes, but is not limited to communication of a statement that makes a claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give The Escapist, an individual creator, advertiser, site sponsor, product, group, government or nation a negative image. In short, if you say something you better be able to back it up with fact.
Is that bolded bit there ^^^ just standard legal-ese to disassociate The Escapist with any negativity aimed at America/American government by posters or is it an actionable offence? I infer that it's just for when people are being dicks and saying "Lol.America." to a random news post but I thought it would be prudent to check.

...and the rant rule gets rid of another third :)

Personally even though these rules were always there unspoken having them explicitly stated intimidates me a bit.

I really don't like that I mean, some guy could have just had one slip and it's like OH you're a RED guy man I don't want to friend you!

That's kinda lame.

Eh, a bit draconian, but not being about to earn your way back is a bit much. Moderators can be a bit fickle sometimes.

Well in order to see them i have to post :p
I will EDIT this in 2 miuntes with an actual response

EDIT:
Well now that i've looked at the new rules i kinda feel like they are stretching it.
These forums have always been the most strict and mature forums i've seen so far (mind me i'm only 16)
I think that by being even stricter about low content posts and the likes is kinda bad. I see why they want no low content posts but then again, restricting videos as a sole response kinda makes the site alittle bit more boring.
Personally, i love the occasional thread about ponies with videos and funny pictures. I hope to god i've missread something and that these kind of threads may still be allowed.

anyway: I'm fine i guess.
