i think it's a neat device (pretty hi-tech for nintendo) but i got picked up a DS lite a while ago and dont feel like buying yet another one.. what is this, like the 3rd DS in 4-5 years? samething with the PSP (although i really like the multi-media functions of it) and is still a bit better than DSi.

I'm getting one eventually. Don't know if I should prioritize DSi or a PSP, though.

Hey, my Lite's hinge is broken and is in constant danger of falling to peices. May as well get the new one, ey?

Oh, and for everyone complaining about the lack of back-comp, IF YOU WANT TO PLAY GBA GAMES BUY A FUCKING GBA! A DS IS A DIFFERENT CONSOLE, STOP COMPLAINING! If anything complain about loss of compatability with the Rumble Pak or GH games... GOD![rant/]
Sooo wait. You are saying this:

"Instead of buying 1 DS/DS Lite, that can run all GBA and DS games, but without a crappy camera and with a longer battery, we must now buy one DSi with junk added AND another handheld"?

That's like buying two PCs, because one of them can play singleplayer games, and the other one only multiplayer games. Or two cars, because one can use only petrol, and the other one gas.

Well, the misconception here is that the DSi is just a revamp of the DS like the DS Lite is. Rather, it should be considered a new platform altogether. The camera part won't be so much for actual pictures but for games like Warioware Snapped.

As for whether I'll be getting it? Once it'll start having a bunch of its own games, I'll probably have to cave in and get one. The fact that my DS is starting to show its wear and tear might also contribute to this.

I got one for my Girlfriend, and I must say. I love it so far. Her mother has a DS Lite, and comparing to the DSi, I must say I don't mind her losing the GBA slot.

A list of comparisons:
1. Better crisper screen, that is also bigger.
2. Sound Quality seems better, but that could be just imagination, games sounded clearer and better to understand on the DSi than the DS Lite.
3. Battery Life is kind of iffy, still a few hours out of it which is fine considering its used mostly at home and when a power source is nearby.

Otherwise, it just seems better.

My mom won one at a PTA meeting (she's the Principal at the school), and I kick myself for telling her about what it can do. Now she's using it as her personal MP3 player, Brain Game machine, keeping notes and checking her email. I never thought I'd see a 58 year-old woman run around with a DS having fun.

I sensed she was going to give it to me, but I had to open my big mouth.

Also, as she told me, I didn't know the thing could actually connect to free wireless servers at the train station. That kinda caught me off-guard.

Aah, but Nintendo have said that the DSi will have advantages over other games for DS. They're all compatable, but the DSi will advantages over it.

Oh, and where did I say I'm goig to get a DSi and another DS? Oh, thats right, I didn't say that!

What if someone wants to play GBA games he used to play on his DS Lite/DS. He can't sell them. He must carry 2 consoles at the same time, or buy a GBA.

For... what advantages?

Already have DS so I really don't need it unless I want better quality sound or whatever.

My problem with this is that I don't trust Nintendo when it comes to hardware. I consider the DSi as a "First Generation" version of the device. Like the Gameboy Advance, which was outdated by the far superior Gameboy Advance SP, and the DS outdated by the far superior DS Lite. Give it half a year to a year and all the bugs will be out of it, the DSi download catalog will be full of awesome old games, and Nintendo will release the TSi - the far superior Triple Screen Individual. (Or whatever they claim the "I" stands for.)

Me, I'm waiting on the TSi. I hear it has an EZBake oven integrated where the GBA slot used to be!

I got one on the 5th when it came out. I've even typed up replies on this web site from it. It's so fun to record and mess with sounds.

All thats new is a camrea... Why the hell would I spend my money on a ds that takes pictures while I have a perfectly good one at the moment... So no im not going to get one.
Has SD card support for music, sound recording and warping, an internet browser, and downloadable games.
If you want to do all those things, get a super-duper-uber smart phone,
