Nintendo's quality has NOT been improving lately. Their last two "big" things (The Wii and the 3DS) have been gimmicks that weren't even that good. Motion control and 3D? Something the SNES could've done with the Duck Hunter game if they had really tried and something that movies started doing in the 80's and 90's? Come on Nintendo! You're better than this. The N64 was excellent and the GameCube was pretty good. What happened?

What are your opinions?

The quality of the stuff Nintendo has been putting out is as good as it has ever been. Whether you think what they're putting out is `gimmicky' is a completely separate issue.

pretty much after the gamecube, if you want a game for nintendo, you gotta hand over the copy w/ the lowest quality possible, and then make sure it's retarded control system atleast 1/2 functions. and the whole 3D thing, eh, i blame hollywood for one, and it's impotence issues. honestly 3D really isen't all that impressive, or imerssive, not that different, (yes 3D works fine on me, and no, no health complications for me either.) but when you have to put warnings on things, along the lines of "may cause nausia, headaches, keep away from children under 8" ect, when your designing games for children 8 and under, seriously? why the hell are we even buying this crap, if that's all it is, is crap? all that's doing, is reinforcing the buisness model of "take a shit, slap your logo on it, jack up a retarded price, it will sell."

In my personal opinion, and you may object to this, is that when a gaming company starts doing bad, gimmicky things when they used to be so awesome, they're quality goes down. Sony and Microsoft decided to copy the Wii and Sony did it's horrible 3D idea, they lost some of my respect. A good company can see when something is a bad idea. Companies are getting greedy though and they're selling they're gaming souls for money.

Sorry, I had to be the first one to choose the retarded poll option.

Anyways, I find the quality of games/consoles Nintendo puts out to be as good as ever. The Wii isn't the best thing ever, but it isn't as horrible as people often make it out to be. The Handheld systems they put out are arguably the best.

They're making more money than a triple-cunted hooker the day after the troops come home. They could care less about the hardcore crowd they catered to in the 90s. This is the 2010s. Casual gaming has taken over as the standard. Nintendo is simply going with whatever is selling well. If they keep this up, they'll be the first to create the virtual room.

The DS is a fantastic piece of kit and works really well, which I'll admit the wii is lacking it.
But then I rarely play my wii, I have a MANS CONSOLE

To be honest I'm more concerned about their lack of new ideas in games.

It doesn't really matter. They are improving with the casual side though.
But at the price of alienating the hardcore gamers. I'd be fine if they could find a way to even it out. Hell, the PC did, anyone else can too.

So... you think Nintendo's quality will begin to fall? Not that it has?

I think the "gimmick" they're getting into now is more of a retro-gaming thing. Anyone agree?

the 3DS is the best hand held on the market and the Wii has the best motion controls ever made (i despise Sony and Microsoft trying to cash in on Nintendo's ideas)

And if those are gimmicks, then yeah, Gimmicks are good.

All "Hardcore" gamers want is HD Graphics and blood, at least the casual market has some worth while wants like smooth gameplay, art style, aesthetics, all form a very unique gaming experience.

I think it has failed. They've alienated the hardcore gamers with the Wii and the 3DS just sounds like a bad idea. Maybe it worked, I dunno. Yahtzee didn't seem too impressed with it and if modern cinema has proven anything in the last decade or two, 3D is a horrible idea that sacrifices quality for a cheap gimmick.

If I'm contradicting myself in any way, I apologize. I'm terrible at getting thoughts actually down in a way that they make sense.

I don't think they had the idea that it was just a gimmick when they made the Wii. I still don't think they believe it's a gimmick. A gimmick is something useless. Blame the third party games for the useless. They've done some pretty interesting things with it first party. And others have done some interesting things outside of gaming with the wii, and even more with the wiimote.

the 3DS ...That's a gimmick. The 3D aspect really doesn't add much to anything. It's just something cool to make their product stand out. We might see some interesting things done with it though.

Overall I'd say I like it though. I'll have to wait and see for this new console thingy at E3 this year before my opinion is set in stone though.

I'd love if that happened. Especially if they went back to the difficulty in retro games that motivated us. Capcom did it with Dead Rising (though the difficulty curve is damn annoying) and Atlus does it with.... Everything.

I'm more worried about Nintendo's quality standard. They keep letting shovelware pile onto their systems

Nintendo isn't about whether they have hardcore gamers or not. They only care about money and only money like a profit business is supposed to do.
But a gaming company shouldn't be about money. They should be about the gamers. And about the fun in games!

The end is NOW! Hide, duck defend yourselves from the evil that is CASUAL GAMERS!
Casual gaming isn't bad. I play Sim City Societies when I'm bored out of my mind. But with the Wii, it almost seems like they gave up on the Hardcore gamers. Sure, there were games like Slaughterhouse and Mad World, but those weren't exactly the best games.

Sony went 3D with Killzone. For shame, Sony.

But I do hope Project Cafe does fix everything that's gone wrong in the past few years.
