The kids thing isnt a major dealbreaker though because people do change their mind and if they dont well "accidents" can happen.
Eh... that's kinda creepy... do you mean "I will make the kid anyway"-accident or "If the really condom break I'm gonna keep the child"-accident ?

I was going along the lines of whoops it seems I appear to have forgotten to take those birth control pills all last week. It was also meant as a joke.
Ok :) so you were going for the creepy vibe :p
It was a case of Poe's Law :)

I would have to think really hard because I'd like to have kids someday.
So I'd say now that I would have to leave this relationship at the starting line.

Not right now, being 17 at the moment. I imagine once I get older I'd at least like one heir to my throne though.

You know what this poll results have shown me? That there are a helluva lot more gents than ladies on the Escapist forums.

As far as the question goes, I've already got two, so I don't need you to want some. On the other hand, if you're not the person I've already dedicated my life to, the point's kinda moot. We're not getting together. (Trust me, it's no big loss. I'm kind of a jerk.)

It would affect my decision, but not as a turn-off, rather a turn-on, as I have no desire for children myself and someone who thinks similarly easily saves some argument down the line.

I want children. I'd like to unleash my personal plague of rage unto the next generation, and I'm not letting myself be forced out of the genepool.
This.
My genes need to proliferate across the Pacific Northwest. First Washington, then the world!
Based on my last name and according to the Bible, I get to inherit the Earth anyways :D

Well I don't want children either, so it wouldn't bother me - I'd be a bad father anyway. If it was the other way round, and we're talking about a girl who wants children, well if I was serious about it, I think I would have to go along with it.

I'd be fine because I won't have children either way. The parts work as far as I know, but I'd never get into a relationship anyway, so I probably won't have any. Actually, that makes your question kind of irrelevent for me doesn't it? If I did somehow find myself unlucky enough to end up in a relationship I probably wouldn't want any. Children really shouldn't be raised by someone lacking social skills and hating most people anyway.

Well, I am female and would like to have children, though I can't have them myself. Being with a partner who doesn't want to have children though is not a deal breaker. Especially true as my boyfriend does not wish to have any more, as he has five adult children from a previous marriage. And besides that, we are both getting a bit long in the tooth to adopt a child, even if we could afford to support another person.

My reaction would be "oh really? Me too! Glad we agree :D"

So, no, it wouldn't be a turn-off. I don't want kids. I'd be an awful mother, and I am neither fond of nor good with small children.

I hate kids, so yay! Much better for me.

EDIT: So, I actually should say, it would affect my decision, for the better.

If they wanted children right away, that would be a turn off, because I don't.

Unless I intended to have children with said person (ie. there would be a very direct conflict of interests and the intention behind the relationship), I don't see how it would really affect the relationship. Why should my relationship with someone now be affected by something that they don't want in the future?
The important thing for me is whether I am attracted by their looks and personality. Where they plan to be in 5, 10 years time is a non-issue.

Sorry to sound like some horrible ogre here but I dont want kids, ever and i have little time or patience for them. I am old enough to make this decision not to have them and if a prospective partner also didnt want kids then i would consider it a bonus.

However all things change with time and no matter how sure I or this partner was i still wouldnt discount a change of mind on one or both sides.

Yurp, it would. If I'm going into a relationship with someone I'm going to spend my whole life with I'm sure as hell going to want some kids.
