Assassins Creed 2 is a great game. Anyways, what' the problem with him liking different types of games. Everybody like different stuff, they're just casual gamers.
My gamer friend likes games like Demon's Souls and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Those aren't casual in the least bit, adding to the frustration.
Didn't you say that your gamer friend thought Japanese games suck? Yet, he plays Demon's Souls. And Castlevania: Lords of Shadow which is part of a Japanese franchise.... I don't mean to be offensive but, that guy sounds like an idiot.

Peers: 90% of them are gamers. 8% Don't get it. 1% is my girlfriend, who understands and supports my gaming, who plays games a little but, but who's less involved with gaming than the 90% of my peers who are gamers.

Hate to be that guy, but that's only 99% lol.

OP: most of my friends are gamers, but think that stories should be downplayed in favor of gameplay, we argue about that a lot, but it's all friendly. Your friends just seem to kind of suck.
I fill the remaining 1%. Just cause. (Actually, I didn't do the math. Let's say the 1% is my mom, lol)

I almost said your friends were losers too, OP.
Your mum would actually be closer to 99%...

Sorry, you left yourself wide open, there was an opportunity there and I took it. Didn't mean to actually offend you in writing that :p

wow....those "friends" of yours sound like complete arses!

Its one thing to say you don't like something but its another to say that its wrong for you to like something they don't like. Its personal tastes. You have my sympathies my friend.

As for me, I guess I'm pretty accepted for my gaming. My family don't really have any problems with it, my girlfriend is a gamer too but she's getting more into it and she even asks me to show her more titles. Hell, she's wanting to give the Zelda series a go which is awesome :) Outside the family most of my friends are gamers, anyone else just ain't bothered but even if they were I've not been told otherwise

EDIT: I guess the only series I love which people are abit "wtf?" about with me is Super Robot Wars. I'm a huge mecha anime fan and not onyl do I recognise many series featured but it introduces me to more aswell. The games are all in Japanese but thanks to some translation guides it helps, plus its something to try reading once I get round to learning Japanese.

yeah, my friends do this. They pretty much wont touch anything that's not full price, and they spend heaps of time playing cod and dawn of war. They keep trying to get me to join them at lan parties to spend all night playing RTS's no matter how many times i tell them to fuck off.

My dad plays COD and thinks all other games are stupid. All of my friends are gamers and love games for gameplay, story, and as an art. My mom hates gaming. Almost everyone else I know that knows I am a gamer thinks I'm childish for liking games.

I love most games (MMO's and most "realistic shooters" I don't like) but what I've noticed is that gaming is largely casual for most people reguardless of what they own or play. I'll bet that almost everyone on this forum puts in about eight hours of gaming a week or more and that doesn't include getting together with friends for multiplayer and the odd 12 hour binge here or there; but most people I've talked to only play two or three hours a week and only own a handful of games. They get stuck on play style and get caught up in it.

I remember playing Legend of Dragoon and it spoiled me for any other JRPG for years because every time I loaded up FF or BoF I was thinking about playing LoD instead. Naturally, I got over that (age helps, mellow you a bit) but a lot of people don't and probably won't. They stick with their safe titles.

There's also a financial element, in this economy no one who only plays a few games wants to fork out any amount of money on an "iffy" title.

My parents bought me my first video game system, the NES along with many games for it. They also got me my SNES and then a couple years ago they bought me my XBOX 360 for my birthday after my last one had broken down. They know gaming is important to me, my mom plays lots of casual games herself, and they arent afraid of it

As for my friends, well I dont have a single friend that doesnt game. At all. I have aquantences that dont game and we get along fine but then we dont really talk about gaming either.

As to strangers, I dont listen to them or talk to them so theres no issue there.

My question is if someone continually upsets you why would you associate yourself with that person? Seriously, think about it. If your friend liked to go out on the ocean and fish and you made fun of it all the time do you really think you would be invited back after a few times? So why should gamers just roll over and take it?

I have sorta the same situation my only true gamer is josh (not real name) he has the same opinions on gaming as myself all other gaming friends are ignorant e.g josh and i were talking about the upcoming release of MW3 and BF3 I said "I'm going to not buy MW3 but I might buy BF3 if its more like BF2 and BF1942" Josh agreed. then the others ganged up on me because i qoute "BF is shit and COD is the reoncarantion of christ" I then showed them BF2 then said "this isn't shit it great actually".

my point try convicing them by making them play them or if not use some infalable logic on them
e.g I said "minecraft has shit graphics"
they said "NO! IT DOESN'T (fanboy rage voice)"
i then said "its true because has the minimum polygons for a 3d game on each object 6 everything 6"
they said "so.. its still looks nice"
I said "thats not graphics thats Aesthics"
they shut up and left

As far as I know, all the cool kids at school play CoD, CS or Fifa.

My friends and I talk about all sorts of games, though one is a valve fan-boy, one mainly plays free mmo's + minecraft, and one claims he is a retro gamer etc.

My brother is just like the guys the OP wrote about.

AC2 was not worth his time, cause you could not stab people at once.
Starcraft 2 was not worth his time, cause it was too complicated.
And Okami was too boring.

My parents could care less about gaming.

If anyone said my Crysis, Fallout NV and Star Craft 2 were shit, they would be booted from my home! My friends all play games other than the very mainstream themselves so... no real problem, but seriously, your friends said that? SPARTA KICK DEM!

I've already been beaten to it (first reply, no less), but 'games should have no story' and 'AssCreed 2 is a good game' is a bit of a contradiction.

Anyway, I think most people here would agree that (MP aside) CoD-BlOps sucked (or at least I think so).

Most of my friends are gamers anyway, so it hardly matters to me. My family don't really care what my hobbies are provided 1. I don't waste all my money on it & 2. I work.

Those friends that don't game (and they don't really care what I get up to when I'm not around), I do other stuff with... like violence.

most of my circle of friends are just as into gaming as i am, except for one who decided to talk smack about portal, that was messy.

I'd say most of my friends aren't as into gaming as I am; they're mostly CoD players that pick up the odd game every now and then. They don't tend to dismiss games I have as 'shit' though. I've had 2 of my friends to watch me play BlazBlue and screw around with Tager online; laughs were had. Hell, I even got one of those friends to play Portal and I think he was better off for it. My brother is a different story. He often dismisses anything that isn't a modern shooter (save maybe one or two RPGS) as shit because he can't understand it. Sounds a bit like your friends.

No I often get told everything I play is shit. Mostly because I own consoles (that is, alongside a gaming PC) and because I generally prefer the "popular" games. I essentially have the opposite problem that OP has. I get looked down on by the mighty JRPG/RPG/Valve fans as some sort of simpleton just because I actually really enjoy Call of Duty and Halo.

Even though my flatmate (by far the worst offender) still insists we have all my consoles in the living room so we can all play.

Dear god, these people actually exist in REAL LIFE? I thought they were just, y'know, internet tough guys.

OT: Can't remember the last time I was genuinely attacked for my opinions on gaming. I have one friend IRL who loves CoD and hates Halo, putting him opposite me, so we clash about that sometimes - but other than that, people are very tolerant.

Now if only everyone else could have my luck...

So do your friends make a habit of dissing other people's interests for no reason? Actual topic aside that's really immature.

Guess I'm lucky when it comes to friends. One likes JRPGs and WoW, one likes simulations and Civilization, one likes anything actiony (with story!) and even the only one who isn't actually a "gamer" enjoys watching me play some story-heavy things or messing with co-op. Most of all we all like joining for Rock Band and such. My parents both play games, even if my mother (hypocritically) views it as a massive waste of time.

Oh, but we're all female so according to people like in OP we don't exist.
