Delayed gratification will make it all the sweeter when you finally can buy M-rated games next month.
Of course I can say that since there was no such thing as M-rated games before I turned 17 and thus had no temptation. That also means that you young whipper-snappers are lucky that you don't have to put up with butchered games and can do the butchering in-game.
Have a taste of what we had to put up with, young 'un.

Rules are rules, kid. It's what they're for. You don't get to drink because you're almost 21, you get to drink when you are 21.
Are you tempting me to go on a long rant about that? I don't want to take this thread off topic.

Ok, on topic, why should we support retarded rules? Just because they exist? What about prohibition? Should we have supported that because it existed? What about other unjust laws or rules?
I could be, at that. I'm always up for a good tempt. Gets the blood flowing, really, keeps the neurons firing. Hell, I'll listen if it's any good, and counter even if it ain't. So go on, rant away.

The drinking age is 18 where I live, I'll gladly get him some beer if he pays me. Don't call people kids if they are clearly literate.

Thats bull man. Playing an M-rated game isn't going to turn you into a murderer/rapist/whatever if you one month away from being 17.
What about two months? Or three? Or four? See where this arguement leads. The line has to be drawn somewhere and you can't wiggle it around because that wiggle will just increase in time. Plus Gamestop employees can be fired for selling M rated games to anyone under 17 without notice. Its in the employee manual somewhere.

I've thought of this question many times before, and I've concluded that there needs to be a department of gaming that works like the DMV. You take a test an if you pass it with high marks, you get a card. That card shows that you are mentally evolved enough to handle the stress of mature games, and are allowed to purchase them without parental consent. Also, boobies

I think he should have sold it to you. When there was a sale and you had less than a month left.
I it's the law he was worried about then
1. you could have given him money and he could've bought it for you.
2. the law is flexible and policemen are not robots.
3. your parents wouldn't have any reason to get mad over it since you don't gain that much life experience and brain growth in less than a month (plus the fact that you got it cheaper). If you can handle it the day you turn 17 then you could handle it less than a month before.

A lot of people seem to think the law is some kind of program code, even grown ups. If it was like that then every case would have it's own paragraph.
It's more flexible than most people think.

I'm only 14 but thanks to being 6'4 having A broken voice and the begings of a beard I am able to buy MA(must be over 15) games and movies with out ID, yay for testosterone.

And I think that they should have sold you that game, I prefer to think of the rating system more as guide-lines than rules.

I believe they are right, I just wish more stores would do this. I've seen MA15+ titles sold to minors on more than one occasion. It's not right and it compromises the ratings system. Not to mention makes people think that 12 year old kids can easily get their hands on MA15+ games. WHICH THEY CAN.

Yes. Just like having sex with someone who has 2 months to 18 is illegal.

Live with it. At least be glad you can have a driver's license before 18, I can start making mine in a week, and I can finish it in June.

Rules are rules son.

The next time you don't see another segment on TV condemning video games for making kids shoot each other and be more violent you can smile and realize that its because people are actually becoming more aware of what kids can buy.

Though they are in the right, I suppose, it's a huge pain in the ass. What I do is find someone in the store who's obviously over the age restriction and ask politely for a favor. They usually accept, and I have my game. I turn seventeen in three months.

On the one side, I can see why you'd think "it's just a few months" and I sorta agree... but on the other, I'm ashamed your parents have allowed you to acquire a collection of M-rated games when you're underage; way to fail at parenting.
Not every underage gamer is too immature and impressionable to play M-rated games. Especially in the case of the OP, myself, and others like us--a few months is not going to make such a massive difference in our personalities that it's suddenly "okay" for us to play these games. If his parents think it's okay for him, at sixteen, to have M games, I'd hardly call that "failing at parenting". More of a focus on what's actually important. Preventing someone access to something he's mere weeks from being able to legally buy himself, when he hits the magic age of 17 where he's somehow only now able to handle the content within, should not exactly be a top priority.

It's one month. One month.

Sure, "rules is rules", but if there was a rule that you had to punch yourself in the face no one would follow it, because it's bloody stupid.

Yes, I believe that they were in the right to deny selling you the game. It shows people like Jack Thompson that some companies do take the ESRB ratings and the rules seriously. Also, what game was it that you wanted to buy?
