it's not an illness because it was self induced
If I have sex with someone who has an STD, is it therefore not an illness if I wind up with the STD?
2 different things ... fair enough in both scenarios it's the persons fault ... but obesity is not a virus ... it's the YOU eating all the food and not working off the calories

It really depends on each person's individual case. You can't generalize it- the genetics and lifestyles involved are too broad.

What does it matter if it's you doing it or a virus from the standpoint of calling it an illness?

If I don't get enough iron in my diet, my anemia is still an illness, isn't it? Even though it has to do with what I'm doing to myself by way of the choices I make in what I eat?
nothing is making you eat those cheeseburgers ... fuck fat people they should get a sense of responsibility and start taking care of their bodies

I was fat 2 years ago. I ate less, I excercised more. Now I am skinny and I feel better about myself - the only bad thing is rebuilding the muscle that your body burns off before the fat.

For me it's just that simple. I can see why some people may be fat due to asthma and the like but I just can't understand the rest who have to pay for liposection and the like.

Thats why you should do weights first. My mate was hugely overweight, something like 23 stone, then he started doing loads of weights and Kung Fu. Now he is an ultra beefy hardcase. He was never lazy though, he was always quite active despite being huge.

Yeah, it's annoying now because I'm super weedy up top and it's hard for me to get going with weights. It's mostly because I lost weight more by not eating than by doing excercise.

Nothing is making people with anemia not eat cheeseburgers.

That's...quite a cogent and relevant response.
ok 1 .. not doing something isn't the same as doing something ... no illness makes you pick up a chesse burger and eat it .. but an ilness CAN prevent you from doing so

and yeah ... i've never been one to beat around the bush for long ... STOP FUCKING COMPARING LACK OF SELF CONTROL TO DISEASES!!

For the most part it's overeating and a sedentary lifestyle, but in some cases it is genetics.

Really? When it comes to your body's health, there's a difference between eating a cheeseburger and not eating one? What's the difference?

... no illness makes you pick up a chesse burger and eat it .. but an ilness CAN prevent you from doing so
Um, I don't think you understand how the type of anemia I'm talking about works. I mean, I know it makes you weak, but not so weak you can pick up a cheeseburger and eat it.

and yeah ... i've never been one to beat around the bush for long ... STOP FUCKING COMPARING LACK OF SELF CONTROL TO DISEASES!!
No one compared a *lack of self control* to a disease. You compared *obesity* to an illness. Obesity might *result* from a lack of self control, but don't confuse a result with the cause.

I don't know why you're getting so hostile. Why are all the anti-fatties so hostile? I think they need to like, eat a Twinkie and chill out. Maybe they all have low blood sugar from all that self-control they're exercising, and that's why they are so on edge.
actually nah .. i eat all sorts .. whatever i want whenever i want .. and i eat craploads .. think is i do 2 martial arts and jog every night ... also i drink beer so i only have the top 2 4 packs hahaha ^^ still .. screw diets

and no once you get to the level of obesity it's still mental ... it's not a disease and shouldn't be considered one just to make a few people feel better ... if someones fat they're fat for a reason .. calling it a disease is just giving people an excuse not to try to do anything about it

Okay to start off im not fat noor am I thin, im more fat though
I used to be very fat, but i worked out hard, so this is coming from a good heart..

Obesity is not an illness, yes I know there having to do something with genetics, but when it comes down to it its about life choice...But its not really your choice its your parents, Im not blaming them because some kids really do just become fat, but its their parents that make them into what they are, its okay for a child to be fat(not obese) but when you see a 7 year old who wont get up and play its just the parents fault

Oh, so you're just this unpleasant and scatterbrained as a baseline. Fantastic.

Or it refocuses this from a moral question to a medical one, and makes them more willing to face the issues of obesity because they're not facing questions about their worth as a person, but about their health. Which would make them see weight loss less as a penance and more as doing something good for themselves, which, yeah--it's pretty clear which of those are more likely to provide motivation.
well yeah haha if you say so mate

so basically you're saying scare them into losing weight ... this is why i hate doctors .. they love their misinformation ... obesity was never a disease dude .. but screw it if some people want to think that way to make themselves feel better i really have nothing else to say because it's not as if my random word can change anything ... it's my opinion you're entitled to yours too

i just thought maybe the human race wasn't so weak as to make up over the top medical excuses for all their flaws .. either way anyone with half a brain will notice obesity is NOT good for you regardless of what it is and try to fix that themselves .. not wait for some dude in a white jacket to tell them what to do
