Poll: On the "three magic words" in a relationship:

Just a quick question, because one of the ways I find that I'm REALLY into someone is that I wait for them to say "I love you" first rather than play my hand too early. I might hint at it/flirt through IM or text message, but I mean actually saying the words out loud, spelled out.

How 'bout it, Escapists? Who gets the ball rolling in your relationships? (and if you're, umm...non-traditional...then just substitute the gender pronoun of your choice for options 2 and 4 in the poll.)

I've only had one relationship so far, and it was a long distance one with a girl in Scotland. And vefore you start, we had already met in real life, on holiday, and stayed penpals. We're still friends now through Facebook .

Anyhow, in that case, since I was too nervous of ruining our friendship by saying it to her when I had the chance, I didn't say it. Instead, she wrote it in a letter about a month after we met, and we started a short relationship after that. Of course, the distance proved too much for us to handle, but as I say, we're still friends, so all's well that ends well, I guess

Anyway, she did it. Like everything else... I'd never have dared to start anything. I guess that also was the reason the whole thing never really made sense in the first place.

Generic whining aside, I haven't been in that type of relationship in a long time. Last time I had a girlfriend I was like 13-14. And I think I was the first one to say "the magic words".

It wasn't a good relationship...

As for my other two with people I actually gave half a damn about, I don't think anyone ever said it.

But yes, I'm hesitant to say it first. I'm afraid to trying to invest too much into a something if he's not willing to pull his own weight.
