Hehe...what of the anticlimactic Meteo spell in FF2? Take it Tellah.
:D
Even Palom could learn Meteo. I levelled Porom and Palom up to level 60 - 70 on the SNES at one time and Palom got Meteo (and could cast it) before he even met Tellah. Porom knew all of the white magic spells except for "White" (Holy) but it's still possible that she would learn it in the levels after 60 - 70.

For the record, that took 24 hours of playtime on the northern tip of the continent, north of Mt. Ordeals. You could fight enemies on par with the ones that appear in the Dark Elf's cave (the one where you can't use metal). 1 party member team could get up to 6000 xp (or was it 9000xp... it was almost 20 years ago). It doesn't work on the DS though.
Holy crap man....that is a lot of time spent. Pff...bring me up and then bring me down about the ds why don't yah. :p

Doesn't really count anyways, since it was barely halfway through the game, three other characters could learn it/already knew it, and it had nothing to do with Zeromus.

I think resident evil 5 did this. Theres a rocket launcher you can find in the 3rd mission and it has one shot. It can one hit kill the last boss if you use it right or you can use it on something else

Nay!
I wasn't disagreeing that was just my imitation of a horse.

OT: Actually I do think that it imbalances game play, and takes away a lot of the challenge and excitement of facing a final boss.

World of Warcraft had Legendary weapons that only materialized when you were at a certain boss, and disappeared afterwards.

Maybe he can get Meteo on DS, I never tested that. Only the part about the tip of the continent having stronger foes. You can always grind your way and see if he can cast Meteo. :p

Also, the 24 hours includes time spent getting Dark Knight Cecil to level 99. Some of his stats actually drop at higher levels (Will, I think).
Not sure, on the DS version Cecils stat's reset at a fairly low level. Weird having Tellah at level 28 and the main character at 1. Been awhile since I have played the snes version, but I do have another question for you. Can you increase the drop rate on rare items such as the bomb and Coctrice summons somehow? Got the most useful summon...goblin...but I would like the others.

EDIT: When you say Cecils stats reset at a lower level, do you mean the level from Dark Knight to Paladin? I think it was at about level 20 (ish) that he became a level 1 Paladin. I just wanted to see what a level 99 Dark Knight looked like. And it also meant any character I had already encountered would be level 99 once they rejoin my party (Rosa, Yang, Rydia, Kain, Tellah).
On the DS this would be a bad thing to do, because it would gimp Kain, Rosa, and Rydia because you wouldn't be able to use augments to change their stats from 70-99.

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia had something similar to this. You had a glyph fusion that could obliterate ANY enemy, but it kills you if you use it. The only time you're allowed to use it is after you've damaged the final boss sufficiently.

He can. Level 50 is when he will learn it (he actually learns Flare later, at 52/55 depending on version. Porom would learn Holy at 52 and Arise at 56.

If you levelled Child!Rydia up she would also learn all of her Black Magic spells except Fire (it's actually possible to get to the scene on Mt Hobs where she first uses Fire whilst being able to use Fira/Firaga).

I also was never able to get the "Adamant Armor" either. You need a rare drop (Pink Tail) from a rare monster called "Pink Puff" in a specific section on the moon. The encounter rate is something like 1/64 and the drop rate is something like 1/99... so it's uber-rare.
1/64 encounter rate, 5/8 chance of the encounter dropping anything at all (1/8 chance of each monster dropping an item at all, the encounter is always 5 of the monster) and then something like 1/128 chance that the item dropped is a Pink Tail.

You can use a Siren to force the Flan Princess encounter, but these are only buyable in the DS version and only stealable from enemies in one dungeon that you can't repeat.

So good luck there.
