The engine was a modified version of the WaW engine, which was a modified version of the CoD 4 engine, so that was crap. The guns have been over balanced to the point of balanced guns feeling underpowered because one gun has slightly more damage. Steady aim lets you spray across the map with any gun and get constant head shots. The launch was the worst in video game history with all the bugs (especially for PC players). The hit detection is crap. The list goes on..

But the single player wasn't bad and zombies is good, though not my cup of tea.

It's alright for playing with friends but there's other stuff I'd rather play like Halo, Mario Kart, Smash Bros. I wouldn't play CoD on my own either since I just like other shooters a lot more.

Haven't played it.
But since Kotick was mind controlled to create a free weekend I guess I can try it. Maybe. I heard multiplayer is laggy, is it true?

I have funny clips in my file share of accidentally getting kills on dudes by shooting 4-5 feet to their left or right.
I've gotten a few killcams on search and destroy with a MAC10 involving a single shot at a wall four feet to the left of a guy and it killing him. Pretty funny stuff. A few tomahawks through some walls as well.

I liked the game, it was fairly well balanced in perks and such. The only thing I really missed was MW2's flawless framerate. Black Ops was all over the place when napalm and rolling thunders came in to the match.

I though the game was good fun. Especially because it freaked me out a little when
you break free of your chair and see the numbers all over the place
.

The multiplayer, easily the best bit, is incredibly balanced. It feels like Treyarch wanted everyone to have fun rather than just reward campers. In all of the maps I've played, I've found one good camping spot. All the others leave your back exposed. I also loved the customisation, how you could just buy your favourite camo and attachments without having to unlock them.

Overall, the only thing I think it could have improved on was the zombies mode. Far too much guesswork for rookies for it to be any fun.

Pros:

Not as much pandemonium as MW2
[HEADING=2]Hold it![/HEADING]

See that's the one thing i don't get, at least the lag and epic glitches in MW2 were entertaining as hell. Case in point infinite ammo for everything on Rust. Funniest thing i've seen for a while.

The point is the pandemonium actually added something to MW2's rage enducing gameplay. It's like if you were normal CoD one minute and then a second later you were playing Bizarro CoD where everyone wears clown noses and is constantly carpet bombing the entire map with unending AC130 bombs while laughing maniacally...

Compared to MW2, Black Ops is just bland coupled with epic rage...
Pandemonium still happens on "Nuketown - Ground war". Not the kind of mess that leaves players who want to earn their kills biting thier hands off.

I actually really enjoyed it.
But I don't buy every other military fps that comes out so it was actually pretty novel for me.
I didn't even buy Blops. My wife bought it so she could play with her friends.

The story.......wasn't actually that bad. They tried to do something different with the mind-washing and ghost Russian man-crush thing...

True, they failed MISERABLY! but, you know, points for trying.

Can't help you with Multiplayer sorry.

I've had some fun with it.
I enjoyed single player, but I've seen way better in the series.

Multiplayer kept me occupied for a while, but it made me RAGE so much I dropped it eventually.
Put a good deal of time in it, but in the end I can only say that it was OK. For a while.

When i got a go on my mates copy, i felt the same way i have felt with all CODs...meh, I've seen better, the mutiplayer was boreing, the Single player was better than the last, the Zombie mode is fun. I could do whole lot worse but i rather keep my 40 pounds and spend it on better things, like food.

I'm not saying MW2 was good at all, but it did have it's moments (as i explained before)

Say what you like but at least i could laugh at the terribleness of MW2 whereas Black Ops just fills me with apathy with the occasional rage moment

Basically everything about Blops felt contrived and repetetive. The plot is an inspired idea, but is executed and presented so poorly that it makes no sense. Add to it it's no more than 5 hours long and it's either an insult or a blessing, depending on one's point of view. More than half the weapons don"t actually "feel" like you are actually firing the weapon, but a cartoonish toy version of it. The campaign levels are insanely linear and entirely too scripted, often with no view towards a tactical approach.

The hit detection of the weapons is abysmal. Half the time the enemy A.I. is a joke with the friendly A.I. just being worthless. The difficulty in the campaign spikes from ridiculously easy to arbitrarily punishing. Graphics wise the game is a blurry, grainy mess with framerate issues cropping up frequently. There are FPS's from the last gen of consoles that look better than Blops, and play better to boot.

I purchased Blops about 6 months after release intending to play through the campaign and join some friends in multiplayer. But after playing through the game once, I just couldn't stomach playing it any further, let alone playing the multiplayer.

Black Ops, while functional, is nothing more than an over-hyped, bland and mediocre FPS. In fact, it's really nothing more than an updated version of WaW, which was also bland and mediocre. Blops is nothing that players haven't seen before and done better.

You forgot Ghost in the cons.

I heard a funny idea once. If you are sitting still in the same room for longer than a couple of seconds you are shown bright red on everybodys mini map but if you move around you arent shown. It would kill the game and its a terrible idea but godammit it would get rid of the campers. Lord those campers piss me off. And the fact that you can shoot someone 30 times in the fucking head and the game wont register a single hit. And the fact that the kid whos playing on dial up who lives somewhere in Vietnam in a mud hut gets host instead of, you know, one of the other 10 players in the lobby who have great internet and live near each other. Or that stupid ass Blackbird which is, without a doubt, the most overpowered killstreak in the history of Call of Duty.

Eh honestly, I played Black Ops enough to get to fifth prestige so it wasnt that bad. But I would take MW2 over it any day, because it was fun! Who cares about one man army noobtubes and predator-harrier-pavelow, at least people die when I shoot them.
You sound just like me, hehe. I have spouted your final sentence there many a time.

And I believe the red dot thing was Elpresador's idea? I would love if that happened. Ghost wouldn't be such a problem IMO if the maps didn't have so many dark corners to hide in.

Just downloaded it during the free weekend on steam.
Wow. This game is as optimized as my ass. I ran it on about the same resolution as my cellphone, on the lowest possible texture quality, and my fps was still lower than 25. Keep in mind that this game has the exact same graphics as MW2 WHICH RAN FLAWLESSLY ON MY MACHINE. So what the fuck?
Also, there is no fucking way you can get in this game after a year, absolutely no way. My guns are complete crap because of my low level, and because I have an average fps of 5 I get a KDR of something like 0.05.
Definitely not buying this, or buying MW3 for that matter. This game started reminding me why I love Battlefield so much.
