Basically everything about Blops felt contrived and repetetive. The plot is an inspired idea, but is executed and presented so poorly that it makes no sense. Add to it it's no more than 5 hours long and it's either an insult or a blessing, depending on one's point of view. More than half the weapons don"t actually "feel" like you are actually firing the weapon, but a cartoonish toy version of it. The campaign levels are insanely linear and entirely too scripted, often with no view towards a tactical approach.
The hit detection of the weapons is abysmal. Half the time the enemy A.I. is a joke with the friendly A.I. just being worthless. The difficulty in the campaign spikes from ridiculously easy to arbitrarily punishing. Graphics wise the game is a blurry, grainy mess with framerate issues cropping up frequently. There are FPS's from the last gen of consoles that look better than Blops, and play better to boot.
I purchased Blops about 6 months after release intending to play through the campaign and join some friends in multiplayer. But after playing through the game once, I just couldn't stomach playing it any further, let alone playing the multiplayer.
Black Ops, while functional, is nothing more than an over-hyped, bland and mediocre FPS. In fact, it's really nothing more than an updated version of WaW, which was also bland and mediocre. Blops is nothing that players haven't seen before and done better.
