Poll: Opinons on 4chan

So I've been thinking, the Escapist considers itself a rather high-brow internet community, and 4chan is often seen as the bottom of the barrel in that regard. My question is : has the Escapist's general opinion of 4chan changed? Does everyone dislike 4chan? Does anyone here actually browse 4chan? Does anyone know that 4chan is more than /b/?

Let me know.

Personally, I think the people between different boards have extremely different mannerisms and many of them are quite nice and helpful. And it is always nice to know there is a place where speech is truly uncensored.

EDIT: Poll voting is nice, but responses keep threads going. It'd be real cool if people didn't leave without explaining their vote.

I never really delved into 4chan much until I found a variety of image/background threads they had and now I like to surf /b/ occasionally to find more pics.

Every board is unique: their own words, inside jokes, and conventions. I don't think the entire site should be judged by the actions of /b/ since it's a much larger community than that one board. I can't deny that /b/ does seem to try it's hardest to make controversy.

Besides /b/ it's really not all that bad, although I don't go there too often so I can't have too much of an impression. And in regards to /b/, what do you expect when you let people post random things anonymously with no moderation?

From what I've heard it is a place of porn and hackers. However, they sometimes do work for the public good if the crime is heinous enough.

It is the a strange beast 4chan.
It brings out the worst and best people.
Opinions range from outright crazy, to interesting and intelligent.

It's pretty much just an internet free for all. It's awesome and scary. Never change 4chan.

They're okay when they're not DDoS'ing stuff. Besides that I really couldn't care for it or the whole community that has built up around the site. I'd suck if it went away, but they really should amend their means to an end in most cases (at least those that are publicized).

if you want an image of just a good laugh 4chan is a great place... yes there is some weird shit on it as well but there is a number of boards to browse and i normally go on /B/ every day... i dont normally post and i dont necessarily agree with whats on there but you cant deny that it is truly a unique place..

i see no harm in going to it.. just stay away from the CP threads

Don't let the 14 year old idiots on /b/ fool you into thinking 4chan as a whole is bad. While /b/ is pretty bad, it's far from the bottom of the barrel. Have you ever been to the Buffy forum where only ONE guy ever posts?
The rest of 4chan is great, /vp/ is great for whenever I need a bit of info or am looking for a trade/battle on Pokemon, /a/ is my go-to place for wallpapers and /v/ occasionally has an amusing batlestation thread or worthwhile discussion.
Just find the boards that appeal to you and stick to them, and remember, treat /b/ like you would the basement at the escapist, if you talk about it for too long bad things might hap-

Anyways the site itself normally scares me, but a lot of really funny and cool stuff comes from there.
And the fact that a bunch of randoms with keyboards can cooperatively put together stories greater than many literary works is mind boggling.

Its brilliant, most of the stuff that comes out of 4chan can be seen across the entire internet. Its quite a wonderful thing.

But I bet most people here will just say its crap, without having been there.

I don't like it. As you said, my perception of it is as a low-brow net community. Yes, I know there's much more than /b/, but I still wouldn't trust anything coming from there. There's been far to much word reaching me of people assuming what they hear on /tg/ (for example) is legit, which it often is not.

I avoid it like it's cursed, and am weary of anyone who bases their knowledge off things found there, but I would not condemn those that go there...considering that makes up about 30% of the people I know. I have given it a fair chance though, I believe, having dismissed it myself after investigation rather than by hearing to from others.

To each their own, but this is not for me.

It's alright. I only go there if I'm absolutely bored and there's nothing else to do whatsoever.
