here's Penn & Teller's take on it, including messing with the board and hilarity does ensue
Substituting one form of lying crap for another (Penn Jillette and his particular brand of "truth" [http://www.bautforum.com/off-topic-babbling/33158-penn-tellers-episode-second-hand-smoke.html]) is not a good strategy for maintaining credibility.
He later admitted he was wrong about that episode. Not that you should fully trust Penn and Teller in the first place. Bullshit! is what I watch for a good laugh, I don't really expect intelligent arguments or to learn anything.
He later admitted? Not good enough. There were mountains of evidence when that show was made that demonstrated the issues surrounding second hand smoke. Their researchers never caught any of it? They went to doctors and experts to get opinions for all their other episodes, they just happened to miss out on that one?

The guy knowingly lied. Then, when he got called on it, (because the lie was just so gigantic it insulted the intelligence of everyone who heard it) he claimed it was a mistake. Na-aahh. He is very obviously comfortable with dishonesty while basically running a show "exposing" dishonesty in other people.

Trusting such a man is as gullible as phoning up a psychic hot-line.

me and my friend were having a sleep over and we decided to try it. We couldn't use candles but we did do the circle of salt for protection agains't bad spirits. We tried using a tumbler but she cheated so i used a home made pendulumn. I felt a funny pulling sensation like a magnet on the string and it guided me towards the letters. I almost fainted when it spelled out "Who are you?" My mate ran from the room.

I swear this is no joke and the sensation wasn't me. My hand was steady and nothing was moving in the room (which was the kitchen). We had also set this up as the time was exactly Midnight.

Uh...you realize I'm agreeing with you, right? I was just throwing it out there that he eventually admitted it was bullshit. He's a great entertainer, nothing else.

The only time I've heard of an Ouija Board was from a Calvin & Hobbes comic.

So no, I've never tried one.
Calvin: Oh great Ouija board, will I ever become president
Ouija Board: G-O-D-F-O-R-B-I-D

That panel was funny as hell

Nope. I didn't. I inferred that you implied it was an honest mistake on his part.

Sorry. :D

Anyway... hmmm yes... ouija boards... hmmmm... never used one, so I can't rightly say that I absolutely know whether they are crap or not, but I can't see boards like this being useful in any way shape or form. There isn't any actual symbolism there or anything esoteric.

Yeah, they're a bunch of what we in the business call "Bullshit" along with ghosts, fairies, unicorns, dragons, goblins, nymphs (sadly), succubi, sirens, loch ness monsters and girls who love nerdy guys and are attracted to the fact you have a level 12 Paladin who wields a +3 claymore of orcslaying.
I'll show you my +3 claymore of orcslaying, hurr hurr hurr.
...Baby.
Must be cursed, all I see is a +2 dagger of flacidity.

You know what's cheaper than a ouija board and more entertaining? A hooker A magic 8 Ball.

Ouija Boards aren't guided by spirits, spirits aren't real. There hasn't been a single recording of their presence where it did not turn out to be fake. If you want to believe in spirits go right ahead.

but wait, why stop there? there's tons of other unproven shit you can believe in.
Any religion,
Magical aura's,
Fate,
Aliens invading earth,
A magical theepot in orbit around the sun,

I haven't, but my uncle has.

He didn't want to reveal any details, but basically some scary stuff went down.

Ok just to clarify I am terrifed of ghosts, the thought of someone watching you while you sleep and you can see them and you don't want them there makes me very uncomftable.
So the prospect of Santa Claus or God also terrify you as well?

To be fair, the prospect of God terrifies me. Some omnipotent being sits around all day watching hundreds of thousands of people fap?

Me? Yes. I was terrified of Santa Claus as a kid and still am. When my heart beat very loudly I thought the "BOOM BOOM" was his footsteps, and it kind of got worse from there.

I don't actually believe in Santa but you don't need to believe in something to be afraid of it. Two different parts of the brain.

In general, not at you Suiseiseki - let's not turn this thread into another anti-theist fundamentalist rant people.
