Ok, I've just found a flapjack in the cupboard which says Best Before 28th Feb 09. I'm going to eat it anyway (lazy girl's breakfast), but would you guys?

If it's not mouldy, it's not Bad! :p
theres no point in wasting food that would otherwise be thrown away.....
think of all the poor ingredients used to make it... They'd be so sad... :(

Depends entirely on the food.

Watery things, no.
Dry things, yes.

Also:
Honey, always yes (it never spoils)

Never, I'm a paranoid freak who worries that he may become a freakish mutant if he eats old food.

Nope. I'm too scared to chance it. Also, I hate the flu and food posing is similar, so I don't want to possible subject myself to that.

Obviously, I guess I'm the only one who would. As long as I know it won't kill me yah. If it gets me sick alright. Diahrea is where it gets iffy. If it's good enough food then I really don't care. I've eaten three month old brownies, slight case of the runs but it was worth it.

About the worst thing I've ever eaten was a mouldy piece of meat. I scraped off all the fuzz and assumed it would be okay.
It was not.

So yes, I will eat something even if it's obviously gone off.

Varies a lot. Some meat products, like steak, absolutely. Any ground meat products, not even if they are getting close to expired. And cheese. Cheese if fine past the date, unless its cream cheese, and then that crap is only good for 7 days after you open it. Listeria is some scary shit...

True..but it does crystallise and go all crunchy...although, heating it up a bit seems to reverse this.

Otherwise, most food is okay maybe a week over it's date. Tinned foods can last a year abouts. Bread...I hate bread, never seems to last a week, you buy it on Monday and by Friday you've only gotten half way through the loaf and it's already gone stale or moldy!

Never, because it's always me who gets sick after that. My dad eats things that could be out of date for months and he'll be fine. Damn you reality!

I go buy how long you get on the best before, if there's only a few days 'best before', from when you buy it to it expiring, then you can probably push it a couple of days, if its months away, you've probably got a couple of weeks, if its things like crisps, cereal, etc, or soda, I find you've got at least a few months.

Really you can judge by look and smell, and if it tastes at all funny, best not to risk it, and of course there's certain foods you shouldnt risk.

it depends on the way the product is concerved.
Things that are smoked or salted can be eaten at any time as long as it dosen't smell too funny.

Allso things that's gonna be fried can be eaten after expiration.

Depends if it's bad.

If it's a "sell by this date" it's usually fine like a week after.

I had a 6 day old yogurt today, and it was fine...

I would eat it, i only throw away food if its beyond recognition... :)
But seriously, i dont care much for best-before dates and such, as long as the food smells, tastes and looks fine.

Depends on what it is. Generally, if it's within a week of the expiry and doesn't smell bad, I'll go for it.

I had a shitstain of a roommate though that NEVER tossed out old food. There was a milk container in the fridge that hadn't moved for months, and when I went to slide it over found it was SOLID.

I hated that piece of shit asshole. You wouldn't believe some of the stories.
