PC is for the internet.
Console is for gaming/multimedia.

If you own a PC for gaming, you constantly have to upgrade in order to play the new releases.
If you own a console for gaming, you only have to upgrade once a generation.

well, nothing feels more natural to me than W,A,S,D and mouse. But I was bought up on a solid diet of Doom, Halflife and Counterstrike. When I move out of home (I'm 17 so it won't be that long) I'll probably get a console, but I'll always keep my PC gaming habits (especially now I have a QL account - shit be addictive). I find that I prefer to stay behind the cutting edge of gaming anyway (the most recent games I've played are probably HL2, Condemned 1) as its easier to filter out bad games, and its waaaaaaay cheaper buying older games (I've never had a problem with buying GOTY editions). Although I've yet to play recent games such as Bioshock, or Mass effect, granted, but I've managed to pick up on older gems such as deus ex and the thief series. I'll get around to playing the more recent games in a year or so, I guess.
Oh, and the poll results were way more skewed to the PC than I would expect. maybe this has something to do with the fact that this is on the internet, and everyone voting HAS to have a PC, but doesnt neccesarily have a console.

I think the whole "constant updates" is a card that is a little overplayed in the pc vs console thread. The only update I've ever had on my computer is adding a graphics card that cost me, If i remember, $60 aus. thats not that much, really. and it was a good two years ago. I'd hardly define that as "constant"

PC. Consoles are not open platforms so you are limited to a certain type of commercial title or homebrew software which is a pale shadow of the PC scene. That's before I think about games like Civ which are generally not available or not as good on console. I suppose that consoles are great if all you want are 3d action games or JRPGs.

lets just say I've had this argument a lot and ultimately PC wins and consoles are rubbish and should never have been invented.
without consoles pc games wouldnt exist, so better think before you write.

oh and another point i forgot, is that PCs totally trump consoles in backwards compatability, and you can play any old game you want via emulator. some people think that this is insignificant, but although you wont have a reliable PS1/onwards emulator for a while, classic 8bit gaming is free and only a few downloads away.

Yeah and if you can find the right emulator software you can even play console games like Halo 3 (WHY?!) or even Halo Wars (Would've been better as a PC only release anyway). Online with other people if you can find the RIGHT RIGHT emulator software.

Just be ready for instability with that I'd imagine.

yeah, back when i was right into the emulator scene, the most recent emulator that i could run reliably was n64. which was awesome, cos the 64 had a load of great games, but there were some ps1 games that i erallywanted to try out. I have way too many games on my "to do" list, its taking up, like, three pages on a word document....
EDIT: oh and to the guy above, this is probably the only situatio that a pic only response is appropriate....

Every time I make the necessary additions to my PC so it will play something flashy at a decent quality it seems like it takes so much work for so little. The last time I really tried was for doom 3 and when I beefed up a little for that everything went tits up for a while. Plus my computer and tv are in the same room so I can do the computer stuff and game. I'll stick with the console.

I'd say they're even, just depends on what you like. FPS's probably play better on PC, but they don't have Halo 3 or Killzone 2 or Resistance 1 or 2. PC's are more expensive to begin with, but the games and DLC are cheaper. 3rd person shooters and fighters suck on PC's (There pretty much aren't any for this reason), RTS's and MMO's suck on consoles(There's also pretty much none for this reason).

I'm Console because I like a lot of 3rd person shooters and you can't really use wasd for a 3rd person shooter. You really need all 360 degrees for movement, not just 4 cardinal directions. Probably the reason that Ratchet and Clank, GOW2, Jak and Daxter, and a bunch of other things weren't released on PC. But just my personal opinion. Also, SSBB and all other fighting games in existence would suck on the keyboard.

But then again, there's starcraft 2. Can't argue with that...

Well since I got the gamepad for my PC I can say that the PC is for people who want versatility. You can use controllers, keyboards, mice. DRM is a ***** tho. It really depends on whether you like to just put the game in and play and your own personal game preference. I pick the PC for all the reasons mentioned above except DRM.

I do both but tbh i much prefer console games for one reason:

My computer is downstairs at a desk with an average at best chair.

My xbox is in my room with a comfy bed to sprawl across whilst i leisurely stroll across the wastelands.

In short i much prefer lying down to sitting up because i'm a lazy slob

PC.

Because its all about possibilities for controls and customization, not power.

I've only had to upgrade my PC to play games twice, and the first time doesnt really count because my first computer had a 25Mhz processor and 16 MB of ram.

I hate all consoles with the burning intensity of a thousand desert suns.
Personally I would have nothing against them, and would just not play them, if they just travelled in a parallel line to PC gaming and the two never ever met, but that isn't the case, and the effect that consolism is having on the PC gaming world infuriates me.

There's a reason why not many people were gamers back when this casual gaming nonsense didn't exist: gaming just wasn't for the average Joe. That was good; it weeded out the weak. But now aberrations like the Wii (which I hate more than every other console system combined) have upset the balance.

I long for the times when a game came out in PC form first, and then, maybe, was converted to consoles, instead of the other way around.
And before you tell me that this is never going to happen again, I'll point out that the current casual gaming thing looks a lot like a fad to me. Here's another thing that old-school gamers are: constant. If you love gaming you're unlikely to ever stop playing, because it's an important part of your life. In contrast, the current type of casual gamer sees gaming as a pastime, mostly. It is my hope that casual gaming will eventually go the way of the yo-yo, consoles will consequently sell a whole lot less, and things will get back the way they should always have been.
And by this I don't mean that I want consoles to stop existing; there are games that are tendentially console-based, and don't marry a PC all that well; the opposite is also true. But today it seems everything MUST be on a console, even if the genre has historically not been ideal to the platform, like, say, every FPS ever made.

Oh, and to the developers: if you must release a multiplatform game at least convert it properly, don't just make a carbon copy of the console version. Also, checkpoint saves no longer make sense even on consoles - they never have on PCs.

(this post is only 80% serious, in case it isn't clear)

Edit: also modding. I love modding games, and that's a PC thing.

i prefer pc mostly because of my love for fps, i know 70% of all fps are made for consoles which sucks cause i never mastered the nipple you use to aim and i feel much more in control when using keyboard and mouse.

You must be very lucky if that's all you have had to buy- maybe there isn't much games or hardware in the outback.
