They are fucking loud, they are pointless, and one time I skipped out on one and hid in the bathroom.
Watch out, I'm a badass over here.
That's not how skipping out on school works, buddy. It's supposed to be fun and liberating. And not smell like a high school bathroom. *shudder*
The bathrooms at my school are usually pretty clean, minus the urinals. Fucking pee everywhere.

The bathrooms at my high school smelt like someone peed on an ashtray. So awful, I would hold it and use a bathroom outside of the school whenever possible. I feel like they should have just caved and allowed students to smoke outside, or somewhere that wasn't the bathroom.

Didn't have pep rallies but my default response to mandatory sporting-related events was to skip school that day and play WoW instead. I was really cool.

They weren't mandatory when i went to high school due to space reasons. Hell, you had to go out of your way for a pep rally ticket, usually by dressing up on spirit days and such. Fortunately, the band room would be open during that time, so I'd either practice or socialize from there, which was pretty nice actually.

We have no pep rallies in Finland.
No school sports teams either.

So a half hour pep rally once a month was essentially no lesson once a month.
Once a MONTH? I assumed they were like a yearly thing or something.

My High School had mandatory pep-rallies. I was an angry, petulant little teen so I tried getting out and when I say the Pep rallies were mandatory, I mean that the event literally had our security staff posted at all of the exits so as to "discourage" people from leaving the school. Why were they posted at the exits you may wonder? Because the rallies were always held at the end of the school day...and there was no way to opt out even though classes were done while the rally went on. I think my school only had 2 or so per year though so there was that.

It depends on where you go to school. Some do it once or twice a year, while others do it before every home game.

At my school it wasn't mandatory, and I mostly enjoyed them. Got to take time out of class to talk with friends and make a fool of myself on the bleachers.

The whole lesson of having pep rallies is "support of the team above all else".

That is, educating the youth to embrace propaganda sent down to us by our authorities.

I hated pep rallies. I hated my school so I had no school spirit and I hated everyone at my school so being forced into the bleachers with all of them was just awful.

Like another poster in this thread, by about my junior year I just left for the day instead of going to pep rallies. They always scheduled them for our study hall, which was the last class of the day, so my friends and I just took off.

I love them. They're non mandatory so I'd just take the rest of the day off and hang out with some friends. I imagine actually attending one would be mind-numbingly annoying though. I can turn my brain off to a certain extent (like, enough to enjoy a mindless but entertaining shooter), but I'd need a lobotomy before going to a pep rally.

My school had non-mandatory pep rallies. Which is a good thing cause I never went to any of them. I never understood mandatory ones. Forced enthusiasm makes no sense. The best thing about pep rally days was that meant an extra 45 minutes of sleep for those who didn't go. It was quite nice.

A couple per year, mandatory.

While I'm really not a sports fan, our school had some school spirit in it, which made it more tolerable. Plus, it usually fell over two periods I didn't like, so I didn't have to go to class.

So I'm neutral.

Fun side-story: For various reasons that I don't want to elaborate on here (we're not in R&P, and it'll take forever to recount), we had a mandatory rock concert at our school. It was so loud that me and my friends fled and played cards in a different building. A teacher showed up and said "Why aren't you guys back at the concert?"

We asked "Why aren't you?"

He joined us in our card game.

Had them frequently.
Was a free excuse to get out of class, so I never complained, despite not having much interest in sports.
Yeah I was in the same situation

The pep rallies took 2 class periods, so I didn't complain

I hated them they seemed sort of pointless to me. Especially If you're rooting for your school to win a game, just to get their asses handed to them royally(with cheese of course)later on that day...but hey at somebody already said on here IT DOES give you a free pass out of class so I can't really complain.

Im from the U.K and don't recall ever having to go to an assembally about the school and it's sports teams, its quite possible that there may have been certificates or a round of applause given for a win but I think they were usually individual achievements. The whole school never actually gathered unless it was sports day, I don't know if you do them had anything like that where you are from? From what I gather a pep rally is just an event to get people psyched up for a sporting event rathther than the sporting event itself?

Sports day was an event which took up more or less the whole school day where everyone sat about and watched students doing the 100 metres, shotput(which was an event I took part in for afew years. no one trusted me not to kill someone with a javalin so they asked me to throw something heavy and blunt instead, im not joking.), longjump, and other such activities. You did not have to do the sports side of it but you had to watch. being able to chill whith your mates made it a decent day even if you didn't take part. Do you do anything like that your end?

Hate them, one poster already said what I wanted to, so I'll quote him/her instead.

I was homeschooled, so my answer should be pretty obvious.

As for my opinion on them..... I think they sound stupid. If someones going to show school spirit, they'll do it without a pep rally. For those who don't want to show school spirit, you're just making them irritated.
Also, this does nothing to prove that the is students have school spirit anyway. Then again, this is an American/Canadian thing...
