It bothers me that people remake this thread every couple of weeks. What, are we fishing for homophobia?

Most don't notice the original threads. It's a bit like threads about Girl gamers, really. They crop up as often as these.

On Topic: I have no problem with it, 'though it would get uncomfortable if they were expressing their love physically. Also, it would be very awkward around friends (Many people these days are quick to make jokes about homosexuality). I'm not homosexual personally, but as long as the game itself was good, it would be pretty cool.

It's fair to say I'd be pretty uncomfortable during any possibly sex scene (assuming your a dude) but I doubt there's any straight guy on earth who could say they wouldn't be without lying their ass off.

But yeah, it's a little iffy that we haven't had a gay protagonist in any game (that I have heard of) putting aside Dragon Age of coarse. But then again you can say the same thing about most movies that run along the same lines as the majority of games (aka action movies) so it's hardly a media exclusive thing.

I played (and very much enjoyed) Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, where the main character is at the very least asexual, if not gay. I don't see a problem with it, as long as it's not the character's sole defining feature. It worked for Ike because his main character trait was the ability to treat everyone as equals, and the fact that he wasn't romantically interested in any of the (willing) women around him just happened to be part of that.

Fine.
I voted "Yes".
The reason if there ever were such a game, the main character would probably match the vast majority's definition of "gay", that is, a depraved cross dresser with girly manners. If it were a subtle reference, most people wouldn't catch on, or wouldn't care as much.[/quote]
i not sure but you youst explained how i think about most JRPG.

i'd rather play as a gay than a testosterone-addicted muscle-creature that eats bullets, shits danger, and pisses fire. (couldn't think of anything better for what to piss, couldn't get the cowdragon i saw the other day on Second Life out of my head. my friend seriously made a half-cow, half-dragon creature with an udder that shoots fire. it was effin' epic!)

Sleeping with males in games is fine by me...

In all seriousness though, homosexuality, just like anything else a game forces me to be, can be great, if it adds to the story, or is essential for waht's happenig on screen, or can just as well be terrible, if it feels unnecessary and forced.

No. Couldn't care about sexuality, as long as the plot is good and the love interest isn't just there as some form of publicity stunt (The same goes for heterosexual characters too, I don't want a pair of breasts if there's no other reason for them to be there other than reeling in the hormonal teen dempgraphic).

on a similar note, I can't think of a game where your character is categorically gay, every game where there is a gay PC, it's a matter of choice, unlike, I dunno, The Darkness or to a lesser extent, the Super Mario games.

No it wouldn't really bother me. If I remember rightly, there is a character, Kanji Tatsumi in Persona 4 where it is implied that he could be gay, even though I think its left up to the player.

Quoted for truthfulness.

Would playing as a gay protagonist bother you? What if the game included a homosexual love interest? If you're okay with that, to what degree are you comfortable with? And lastly, should we be made to feel a little uncomfortable even against our will to make a point, or for the sake of atmosphere/tension etc?
I wouldn't want to play a gay protagonist. Part of playing games is fantasizing about being the character you're playing as, and I don't really fantasize about being gay. It's not like a movie where there is a solid level of separation between you and the main character.

Yeah, I play one of those guys in real life. It's really annoying.

You get all these +5 charisma bonuses and shit with women, but they're useless because of the "no women" restriction.

In games, my characters have no sexuality. I just find it irritating, since relationships are always stilted and clichéd, and I have no connection to the characters. The only thing penetrating anyone in the games I play will be bullets or metal swords.

I'd be uncomfortable during the sex scene, but if they just add a skip option, everyone's happy, right?

Pretty much this. I don't have a problem with homosexuality, but I have a problem with the perpetuated stereotypes. Yeah, I'd probably be uncomfortable and a bit offended if they made the character super-effeminate/talk with a lisp/a "bear" in the same way that I'd be uncomfortable playing an African American character that was a "mammy" stereotype who spoke in "jive" and subsisted on a diet of fried chicken. I've known a few gay/bi/lesbian people and none of them acted any different than anyone else I knew. At least not because of their sexual orientation.

If it's a "oh, darling" being done as a serious character, I'd not play the game.
I could stand a gay guy "being played straight" and whenever someone insults him for being gay, he mocks them with the gay lisp.

That'd be funny.

It would not bother me at all, infact I've done it a few times, we've all played Final Fantasy X right?

in all honesty, it doesn't bother me . . . if there's no blatant HOLY SHIT right there in your face gay sex involved it doesn't bother me in the least. But then, if there was . . . it'd likely be classified as a porn game (as I'm speaking NOT in the God of War sense here full on visual style is what I am alluding to) but then, if it was a gay porn game I'd not be buying it anyway since I'm a heterosexual so oh well *shrugs*

I don't mind.

And as for the love/sex scene. It will probably suck. Just like any other sex scene in games. So it won't bother me.

it depends on what osrt of things you would have to do, I wouldn't want to give head in a public tiolet in a game.

But really it isn't the character that would be bothering me, so i guess not.
