It wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

Sexauality doesn't come out (yeah, I know) in a lot of games anyway, so you can pretend a lot of characters are gay if you really want.

If its something where there's a gay romance (between the protag. and an NPC) written into the story, then that's fine too.

I'm fascinated by the amount of people who are made so uncomfortable by 2 men or women being in a relationship with each other. Talk about having something to hide.

What's all of this about Cloud from FFVII? Anyone here ever play Enchanted Arms? One of the main characters is described openly by another main character as a "woman trapped in a man's body". One of the things he says before he attacks is "Are you ready for thith?" Dude is such a stereotypical flamer I blame him for melting my Xbox.

I'm very open about my faults, and thus I can say with great weight that homosexuality is one thing that genuinely doesn't bother me in the slightest. I've known plenty of people who were closet gays, and once they revealed themselves, I didn't think any less of them. The worst I got was a few curious questions about gay sex, and that was only because the concept was mostly alien to me at that time.

Cmon! When the fuck did those threads started with this "Gaming Sexual Equality business"?

frankly i guess many companies don't do this or not that visibly, because they want to attract the mainstream public, and not a fraction only, it's like if i wanted to make a game only for hippies or for capitalists or comies or whatever... not many would do it because it doesn't pay that much.
Why should other players would have to tolerate what they don't or what they want to be in a game? because the devs don't think of it... or because they have certain rules to follow by their mother company...

my only problem personally would be if the character is a total drag queen or like in "La Cage aux Folles":

if you want to play a gay character, i advise you go play The Sims.

The thing is, I have difficulty finding men attractive. So really, playing a gay man would pose the same problems as playing a straight woman (this is why I play lesbians in Bioware games).

But I'd get over it.

I would not mind a gay character. If he/she's written very well and not total stereotype, I might have a bit of a problem. I'd still play but I'd feel the character would be a bit exploited.

Nothing against gays or playing as one. Something against seeing gay sex, even mild, on my TV. SO my choise is the bottom one.

I would be disturbed a bit, but no way hate it.

Though playing as Rob Halford would be awesome.

My answer now is the same as it always was: no, it doesn't bother me and yes, I already have.

Didn't bother me then (<url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT55RcNU1ek>tugged at my heartstrings, actually), won't in the future.

well... I'm not a homophobe but [sub]bad start, let me try again[/sub] *Ahem*
It wouldn't bother me, since you're not the character and unless you're gay in real life, playing the game won't make you gay. But I'm not sure I would be comfortable watching two men.... well describe physical, and how much of it would we see? But I don't know if I would be bothered by it until I saw it so I really don't know what to pick...

EDIT: And btw what could being gay in a game possibly add to a story or gameplay? it would still be a awkwardly shoehorned in love interest, and you could really make any character in any game gay if you changed the love interest from a woman to a man (or vice versa). you know unless you play a game called "Captain Gay" where you could shoot rainbow lazers from your armpits. and that kind of game would just be offensive..

Dammit, I meant to put
I'd be okay with it, but only if it got physical
I misread the question, and wasted a vote

Should it bother me? It should be a non issue, it clearly isn't for some, it is clearly debatable.
I am gamer and the story behind the game is what matters not whether the protagonist is straight, homosexual, lesbian or bi.If I am enjoying a game and the story is good and if there is romance, then love is love, and is beautiful thing in all of its glory. That is what matters, not whether the protagonist is of the same sexual orientation as me, that is shallow at best.

As a straight girl, I'd love to see more gay/lesbian/bi characters. As long as they're portrayed with sensitivity, of course. It would force developers to stop and think about their characters instead of making another Indiana Jones or Rambo (or anything along that spectrum).
