Would playing as a gay protagonist bother you? What if the game included a homosexual love interest? If you're okay with that, to what degree are you comfortable with? And lastly, should we be made to feel a little uncomfortable even against our will to make a point, or for the sake of atmosphere/tension etc?
I'm confused as to why it should make a difference when 99.9% of all games don't actually delineate what their protagonists sexuality actually is.

As I've said before, Gordon Freeman could be gay and it wouldn't alter the story at all. In fact there's a few pointers to say it's actually feasible.

As for physicality, AFAICR only the occasional games show any physicallity due to the automatic M rating it would get them.

Final Fantasy 7 still allows you to date Barrett, though.

Meh. Orientation/gender of the protagonist isn't exactly a key point for me. Mostly it's the style of game, and if it is any good. Also the story. So if the story is a good or well-done story about a homosexual, alright. If it is just a "shock value" novelty (the key selling point is "this person is a homosexual, which is edgy, and we'll remind you at every turn, so buy it") not so much.

As far as if it gets physical; I don't really care for heterosexual scenes in games either. If it's done tastefully or is just gratuitous, I just don't want to see it. Yes, if I'm going to watch a sex scene, I'd rather it be hetero, but I'd just rather not at all.

i don't have an issue with playing a gay character, depending how its done, if its a flabioent gay sterotype i would hope it get crusafide :3. other wise i say go for it. hell you can be gay in dragon age, so it is posable there working toward it.

I'd be uncomfortable with a physical homosexual love scene in the same way that I'd be uncomfortable with a physical straight love scene, because I cannot imagine any game devs doing that tastefully.

But I would have no problem playing a gay character so long as they weren't stereotypically bad at fighting or something. (Assuming the game involves fighting, if it's a fishing game then that's alright)
These two posts pretty much sum up my feelings on the matter.

If its done in good taste and if game writers don't go over the up with informing us every 15mins of the characters sexuality (Unless of course its plot essential), which i?m guessing they will do otherwise what?s the point of even making a gay protagonist to being with. Overall there is no issue with it, it would maybe most likely bother gay people rather than straight if its too stereotypical for some. I honesty can't see it happening anytime soon.

I don't let people's sexuality effect my judgements of them in real life, so why would a video game be any different? A fun game is a fun game, whether or not the character likes it up the butt or thrusting in ladies. In fact, the more complex or interesting a character is, more unlike yourself, the more you want to connect with him and it shows when you can connect to someone different to you.

But it's the same thing as playing as a black guy when you're white or playing a white guy when you're black. You don't care if they're green for that matter, you're playing to have a fun time, anything you wouldn't notice if someone was like around you should go the same in video games

If it became too physical and stereotypical then no, I wouldn't want to. Although fable 2 does allow you to marry men. lol. I'd feel slightly uncomfortable playing such a character. otherwise, I don't care as long as the game is good.

If they were just liked men and that was the end of it, why not.

If they where extremely camp and what not. It would annoy me.

Being in a gay relationship right now... not at all.

I would have to wonder the wisdom of it though. No not because of the bigots out there which would protest, those can be ignored, but because of immersion. People like feeling as if they are the main characters and sexual orientation, either way, can ruin that immersion. Sexual orientation of any type should be avoided in a game, often it isn't needed anyway.

If the game is fun and his sexuality contributes to the game appropriately, I couldn't care less.

Why the hell would it matter? For all we know, everyone from Marcus Fenix to Gordon Freeman to the Master Cheif could be gay. Do we need devs saying this guy's gay, killing 98% of their sales and making themselves a laughingstock?

I am in Dragon Age. Discovered that Zevran was getting friendly, and I was curious to see how far Bioware would go. Judging by the positions the characters were in, it is unclear if they fully comprehend the logistics of gay sex.

Only if there is: nudity, partial nudity or a love intrest. But christ if this was the thirteenth century then my next statement the pope would pull his own teeth out... I'd welcome it to the gaming network as long as it doesn't hike up it's skirt too much.

I'm actually just writing a scene for a game where one of the main fighters shoots another guy in the face when he takes the piss out of him sleeping with guys (the exact phrase I've used is "boy ramming", because I find it funnier, yet less offensive, than most other terms). He then goes out and rips apart a twenty foot tall mutant bear with his bare hands, and it's never mentioned again. Honestly, this is the kind of gay guy I'd want to play, not one of the more stereotypical screechy gay guys that populate American sitcoms.

Also, I've played men and women of every colour of the rainbow that are attracted to practically everything from the opposite gender to plant life, and I've never had a problem with any of it. Can't see something as normal as a gay guy bothering me.

Accidentally hit yes in the poll. I really wouldn't care to much, it may get uncomfortable if things got a bit too physical, but I don't think I'd mind a gay protagonist to much.
