When ever I get something with moral choices, I go through the good path fully regardless of any immediate negatives or increased difficulty later on (Bioshock springs to mind). Then I normally play through on the evil side of things; normally a bit easier but I can never relate to more character and I don't feel particularly attached to them.

The problem with every game with a moral choice system is in the end you still save the world, you just eat puppies along the way.
HA this is so true... I know a lot of people who were mad about not being able to join the Enclave.
I am one of them, and this also happened to me with Prototype, I gave the black watch all the right to kill half the city. If you phrase it like that sure, they sound evil, but a virus is eating and turning your civilian population into zombies, I say that that is more then enough reason to nuke the city.
If you want the fun side of being the bad guy, "Dungeon" and "Dungeon Keeper" are good. You play the evil overlord whose nice dungeons keep getting invaded by annoying, misguided "heroes". :) They are both funny.

But how about this in a "moralistic system"-a game that doesn't TELL you how good or evil you are until the end. Something with a sliding scale that has GOOD rewards for at least 5 different playstyles would be nice.

Say a Good, Semi-good, Neutral, Semi-evil, and Evil ranking that gives you access to equally awesome weapons and armor? Why should any part of a game look/feel bland or cheap? We like the villains because they look better and get the best toys. I demand equal rights for everyone else! Make the games BETTER!!!! :D

Well, if I had to choose between protecting a village from bandits, or helping bandits plunder the village, I'd probably help the village. What I wish I could do is kill the bandit boss and become their new leader, kill the village's boss and become their new leader too, and have myself a nice lil' kingdom.

I wish they'd add some new to the old good/evil system, like ruler/something non-rulery...

My rule: Good guy first, bad guy second. Best of both worlds.

Then I just play bad guy over and over again. Besides, they're not bad, they are just misunderstood. And will eat your face. Twice.

in games like KOTOR, Fable etc i prefer to play as a good guy

however if there is no moral choice in the game, and the character is evil, i will have no remorse, its just in moral-choice games the bad guys always seem to look ugly and dirty and the endless screams of people running away in fright

With so many games the badguy, is not just a powerful badass, but a complete tool who you hate anyway. I'd like to see some more likeable villains. Otherwise I just go neutral when I can.

A purely evil protagonist is a nice change of pace from either: "We've got to saaaaavvvveeeee the wooorrrrrllllddddd..

Or: "Will you save the orphans from the burning orphanage, or will make it explode for extra shits and giggles?"

Sometimes it's just fun to play as an evil immoral asshole.
I swear officer, that orphanage attacked me first!
Hahahaha, true.

LFG?

I don't think Alex Mercer is EVIL, but I mean he has amensia and at this point everyone and everything except his sister treats him like shit....so in the end I think if he rips apart a doctor who killed some innocent people for testing I do not find that evil! Or a marine the mowed down a family for being potiental carriers, hes not EVIL GODAMN!

BUT if you hit pedestrians with a tank they should've moved faster...I MEAN RLY! A FREAKING TANK IS COMING AT YOU 10 MILES PER HOUR MOVE MOVE! MOVEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!....so I can say that I was cleansing the virtual gene pool of Idiots who don't get out of the way of a moving tank!

I like the evil side most of the time. Everyone wants to be evil, and in a game, you can. Try and eat out a little girls sea slug at the bottom of the ocean andyou get thrown in jail if you try to in real life, but you can get away with it on the xbox

I like playing as the evil character because its more fun blowing shit up than helping old ladies cross the road. Most evil characters look cooler than the good guy anyway ( cole from inFAMOUS, good= looks like a normal dude, shoots blue lightning, Evil= wrinkly skin, red eyes shoots red lightning. RED LIGHTNING!!!!

I am firmly in the camp the videogame good guys are wimps and retards and only the bad guys understand the way of the world. I love playing villans because I don't want to play as some powderpuff who wins through the goodness of his heart or any of that shit.

I indulge myself in evil upon occassion.
Its like a good vacation, its fun for awhile, but I will always be the good guy at heart.
^^ Me too the "T"
Every now and then i just get the urge to slaughter innocents. Games
like Fable are great in this aspect, as, should i wish to slaughter
an entire village, i can, and easily regain my desired 'good' morality.

In response to the "Alex Mercer" grade evil, I become immersed in the super powers and through that, i easily find myself revelling in the dismemberment of innocent bystanders as it is more about the unleashment of awesome abilities than the deaths of many that i enjoy. However, i do have to add that in the case of "Evil" Cole McGrath (i think i spelt it wrong) I do not enjoy being a D***head, mainly cause in that case the visual of your character is not cool but evil whereas Alex does not (to my knowledge) change into an individual who peeved off an angry tattooist and then jumped into a vat of bleach. For me, the moral choices are not as whether my charcater still looks badass.

i love playing as the bad guy, blowing up shit, knowing that peoples lives have been ruined. cause thats how i roll.

EDIT: Quick example for you, black and white, this heartbroken dude wants to be reunited with some chick, i grabbed her and sacrificed her on my altar, giving me power for more god powers and completely owning that dude.

pfft, dude wants ME to do stuff for him. ya, right. thats gonna happen.

Funny thing - I haven't found too many games that reward the evil choice (Fallout 3 was something of an exception).

That said, I enjoy being an utter bloody arsehole at times - quite theraputic at times. But none are as cool as Garrett. Not Altair, not Denton. Pre-new-trilogy Fett would be the only one, and you never really get to play as him as far as I know
