Doesnt bother me in the least - but I wouldnt usually choose a female over a male character. Obviously when I say that, I dont mean I avoid games with female protaganists - but in RPGs and things like that I would usually make my character male if given the option.

If I wasn't cool with playing a male character, I don't think I'd be much of a video game player. If I get to choose my gender, though, I tend to go female. I'm not sure why.

I can play as male characters (hardly like I have much choice in this matter) but I prefer to play as a female character. It's not often a dealbreaker (RPGs that force gender on me get automatically marked way down) but it feels more natural, and thus normally immersive, to play as my own gender. It's not a hard and fast rule though.

One of my favourite characters I've ever played was a woman. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the game, as it was 10 years ago, nor the name of the character, as it was 10 years ago (something LaRue), but she was a lounge singer turned mercenary by necessity, and an absolute blast to play.

Combat in the game involved rolling a die to determine how many cards you'd draw from a deck of cards, and then each turn involved the GM counting down from Ace to 2, and your character would take action when your card was up. It was a game that revolved heavily around guns, from what I can recall. If anyone can identify the game from what I've said here, please let me know as I'm dying for some nostalgia tonight.

No, but I'm not 100% okay with it.
I don't want my mom walking in to see me looking at some girls perfectly formed ass.

That's just awkward.
I think you have bigger issues in your life if your mother/son situations get awkward from looking at a girl in a less-than-platonic mannerism
I'm sorry but, wuuuuuuh?

And no I don't really have any issues, and jrpg's sometimes get closer to porn than porn itself.
I'm telling ya, mom walking in on two jrpg characters rolling on floor wearing barely any cloths will be awkward.

because you have to explain. *sigh*
You said it would be awkward looking at a girl's perfectly formed ass on a video game when your mother might hypothetically enter the room. I meant to say there are far more awkward things you could do than a teenage (assuming) male looking at a females ass infront of their mother, no matter where are. It's only natural for males to be attracted to that part of the female body, or any other sexually matured parts of it.

And no, no they really don't. Porn is completely and utterly naked with mostly fully unconcealed sexual acts being performed. JRPG's are still wearing something, in which still renders parts of them concealed. Even Ivy on Soul Calibur isn't porn, just.. really ridiculously under dressed. And we all know how little actual sexual acts are ever in video games..

..Anyways, that's the best explanation I can come up with right now. Off-topic, but the general wording of your statement stuck me as odd, is all. *Shrug*

To properly respond to this I give you a quote from the guys from Red vs Blue

"If I'm going to look at my character's ass for 60+ hours, it might as well be a chick's"

Depends on the game. I've played as a woman in Mass Effect and that was fun because of the slightly different response and reactions I got. However in some games, like the Pokemon games, theres kinda no point in playing as a different gender because it has no impact on the game at all apart from changing the colour of your character screen.
