Personally I play Male because it feels natural however I don't have a problem with playing Female.

No, not at all. In fact, I encourage members of the opposite sex to try out the other one's shoes and try to understand what makes us different rather than simply accepting the differences with no exploration.

I play both, doesn't bother me either way. I often use a second play through to play as a girl just to see how different the game becomes
This is pretty much my reasoning behind it, at least at first. I honestly have risen to the point of evaluating male/female character experiences with equal interest and commitment (although I'm still trying to come to terms with the female's love interests, my female characters are basically asexual when I play them)

Normally I don't choose to play as a girl first, but I have no objections to it. I played through both Mass Effect games as both male and female, to see what was different.

No, but I'm not 100% okay with it.
I don't want my mom walking in to see me looking at some girls perfectly formed ass.

That's just awkward.
I think you have bigger issues in your life if your mother/son situations get awkward from looking at a girl in a less-than-platonic mannerism
I'm sorry but, wuuuuuuh?

And no I don't really have any issues, and jrpg's sometimes get closer to porn than porn itself.
I'm telling ya, mom walking in on two jrpg characters rolling on floor wearing barely any cloths will be awkward.

because you have to explain. *sigh*

If I have the choice I will pick a male. I find the female getting hurt sounds irritating. If I am for some reason playing a JRPG (which I have not for a long time) then it doesn't matter because they are all chicks anyways.

Generally I play as a male character. It depends on what options I have available.

Mass Effect, Dragon Age and Fable 2 I had to play through multiple times, so I played a female character at least once, just to change it up a little.

MMO's I have only played 2 female characters. One was a Dark Elf in Lineage 2, because all the other classes I didn't like the look of.

Final Fantasy XIV I played a Mithra (Or Motiq'ue) because, again, I didn't like the look of the other characters.

I'll usually play as a female character, given the option.

On the logic that if I'm going to be staring at a character's behind for 30-1000 hours, it best be lookin' damn good!

I try both at least once. Depends on how the gameplay will change also. Other than those reasons, I guess female protagonists are just more interesting to me.

Since I'm not bothered by playing a female when there is no choice (i.e. Tomb Raider) I don't see why I should be bothered by someone playing a female in games where there is a choice.

I chose to play as a female through Mass Effect 1 and 2 due to the far superior voice actress. Saying that its weird to play a female character in a game is like saying its weird to read a book with a female main character, or watch a movie starring one.

Your friend sounds like he has unresolved sexual issues.
This pretty much. Plus if we could only play games where we're alowed to be our won sex then that would utterly segregate the gaming world between men and women wouldn't it? I'm man so I can't play Metroid Prime, you're a woman so you can't play Half-Life? And you can't ask developers to give the option to play as either sex in all games as that would be too much to ask them to do, and they've more often than not got a very specific idea in mind when they chose the sexuality of a character. Playing through a game like Half-Life as a woman would completely change the dynamic between so many of the key characters and just wouldn't be what they had in mind.

It doesn't bother me if I would be "forced" to play a female character.

Apart from that,I have a tendency to play male characters on my first playthroughs in RPG's due to the fact that,if i play a female I don't take the game seriously.

Role-playing games exist for the sake of allowing to play a certain role, according to my homework. That being the case, I like to play in the role of a woman.

Why? For one, I have more than a few original female characters between 2 separate universes (they outnumber my male characters by a slight margin) with their own very distinct personalities, and I like to insert into the various universes that numerous create for my gaming pleasure. I have a girl who was once a Marine, so I put in her in the ME universe. I have another girl who's trying to find herself after a tumultuous childhood of rape, pirating, and incarceration (it sounds better in context, but it's also rather tragic), and so she was great fit in Dragon Age (after her spiritual reformation, that is). The girl I told you all about that I put in ME? She has an older sister, very smart, very collected, seemingly always ready to take a challenge head-on. She fit in quite nicely when it came to wandering the Capital Wasteland.

Playing as one of my girls allows me to put on her shoes (or armor, or even miniskirt), see the world through her eyes, and experience how I think she would act in various situations, thus making my gaming experience all the more immersible and enjoyable. :)

In RPGs I prefer to play my own sex because I like the main character to essentially be an extension of myself. I could play as a woman, but it would feel a bit off.
