I don't care what the scientists say! I still think Sun revolves around the Earth, which is in the center of the universe!!

It doesnt matter what anyone thinks about Pluto.

It officially isnt a planet anymore. And to be honest it always seemed a tad to small to be to be a planet.
Amen Ramen!

Also, I'm now starting a movement to get rid of Mercury too. Damn you, you moonless piece of sun-charred rock!

Of all the things Scientists could have done, they sat around debating whether the PLANET PLUTO (clue in the name) that everyone has agreed is a PLANET for decades and decades is actually a planet.

All of the 'scientists' involved at that meeting should be taken out and summarily executed. How much time did they waste that they could have spent doing something useful to arrive at a conclusion that no-one but themselves argees with?
Well people believed all sorts of things in the old days but we must move on and accept what is.
Pluto fell out of the planet classification because it is such a tiny thing and as they later discovered it is actually part of a large "asteroid" belt.
http://www.universetoday.com/32515/kuiper-belt/
And to really bring home what that means, in that belt there are bigger objects then Pluto, so if you lower the planet scale to include Pluto then we also get many more new "planets" on that belt.

I was also very pissed at some random classification reshuffle, but I haveto admit it makes sense.

the poll is currently 267-266. that is beautiful. and no. i cant let my nostalgia get in the way of science. which is probably what the 267 group is doing.

No its too small apparently. Found that one out on QI and I gota say it was rather suprising.

We have a concrete definition for a planet now, one which precludes Pluto, so no, it's not a planet.

Maybe it should be, but it's not.

Classified: Dwarf Planet

has "Planet" in the classification so it is a type of planet, just not a full-sized one

If the scientists say it's not a planet, then it's not a planet. It's not like this is a subjective thing.
I think in opposite of this statement. It is a giant land mass orbiting our sun that is capable at times of having its own atmosphere. That says planet to me, regardless of what scientists say. And seriously, these scientists have nothing better to do than debate whether or not Pluto should be categorized as a planet when we still can't get past our own moon?
The funny thing is in 2005 (before the decision to demote Pluto) there were 3 other bodies discovered that had the same characteristics of Pluto (shape, orbit, etc). Two of them were smaller but one (Eris) was slightly larger than Pluto and even has a satellite(Dysnomia)[footnote]Fun Fact: Eris was originally named Xena with its moon being Gabriella[/footnote]. All three of those were named dwarf planets upon their discovery. The problem came when someone went "hey guys, what the hell is with this inconsistency". Now Pluto originally got its planet status when it was discovered as it was thought to be larger than Mercury. The discovery of Charon disproved that. In 2006 scientists realized they would need to add three planets to the list. They also knew they would find other objects they would need to call planets as well in the future. They decided to demote Pluto to dwarf planet rather than promoting dozens more. Just for your convenience though, if you are still insistent on Pluto being a planet here are the other three "planets" in our solar system: Quaoar, Sedna, Eris, Haumea, Makemake, Orcus, 2002 TX, 2002 AW, Varuna, Ixion, Vesta, Phallas, Hygia.

1. is in orbit around the Sun,
2. has sufficient mass to assume hydrostatic equilibrium (a nearly round shape), and
3. has "cleared the neighbourhood" around its orbit.

I say yes Pluto is still a planet. It looks like this poll is neck and neck, but....Wooooooo! Pluto is a planet is winning!

Seriously, I learned it was a planet when I was a kid and it was that way for a long time. I don't care what the scientists say, I here by give Pluto honorary planet status. The status is permanent and can't be taken away by anybody.

Edit: And the honorary status also makes it a full planet, none of this dwarf stuff for my pal Pluto.

OMG! The sheer amount of ignorance and stupidity in this thread baffles me. It's a dwarf planet.

I grew up calling Pluto a planet, but I can totally understand why it's technically not considered one anymore.

It's not just that it's small, it's that it clearly isn't a part of our solar system. It's entirely inconsistent with anything else we would consider a planet in our solar system. Not only is it clearly not a product of our sun because of its extravagantly off-kilter orbit, but its make-up is more like that of a moon than a planet.

Sure, it's orbiting the sun, but we don't consider Halley's Comet a planet just because it orbits the sun, do we?

The expert's say no then no.
The 'experts' said yes for years, who says they won't change their minds again?
The expert's taught the sun revolved around the earth, then they changed there mind's.
Atually, scientists had doubyed for ages weather or not it was a real planet. They only officially changed it after the guy who discovered it died. They didn't want to hurt his feelings.
Another note, to people who are holding onto the nothion that it MUST be a planet because they were taught it in school. You were taught wrong.
And to quote a great man "that's no moon".

what seperates a planent from a floating rock in space?
size dosen't really make any sense.
and neither does shape.
what if there was life on a baseball sized rock floating out in space?
and the rock was shaped like flat disc?
and the beings that lived there claimed it to be a planet?
what would WE call that rock?
an asteriod, that's what.

Does it orbit around the sun? Yes. Besides rejecting Pluto as a planet will also be rejecting the mystical facts about it like its Hades planet (I wonder if he's piss that the scientist declares it not a planet.).
