Nintendo might get some thumbs up from the accessibility community if there was a southpaw option. I don't know how the DS firmware works, but being able to mirror all the buttons (ABXY <-> DPad) at the OS level would mean left handed players wouldn't be disadvantaged and developers unaffected.

This seems like a fun project actually. I should see if there's DS documentation.

I'm right handed, and I also never use the stylus unless the game forces you to use it. However, I suppose it would be a useful option for those who do need it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm sorry but that's a little funny. Play with a stylus and quit complaining.

I mean, lefty mode for Pokemon? That's the HEIGHT of lazy. Honestly.

If I were in charge of making a Pokemon game, I would say specifically to the control design person thingy NOT to make a lefty mode. Even if he/she didn't ask.

Seriously. The D-Pad is BUILT for movement control. The buttons are built for... being buttons.

Besides! What's the harm in becoming ambidextrous? It's a total chick magnet.

hold the stylus in your left hand between some fingers you're not using. break it out occasionaly when in fights and pokeathlon. where you don't have to move.

works perfect for me. it's only awkward when using the dowsing machine, but then i just use my right hand finger.

I'm left-handed but it doesn't bug me that much. It would have been nice if you could make your character walk around using the stylus though.
not really, since you can't walk diagonally.

Uhh. Why would you want to use the stylus? The screen flashed (at least for me) every time I tapped something. Sure, it's faster to pick an item or a pokemon, but it's not that big of a deal. Maybe because I remember the good times of GBC...

Also, I'm rightie and don't care about you. HAH.

Can't you just use your thumbs? The touchscreen buttons on Pokemon are huge, i never bother using the stylus.

If you do that you get finger oil and cheeto dust all over the screen.

You don't have to...Just play two handed, I guess.
I guess I just hate feeling like I'm missing out, and you can cut so many corners with the stylus. It just grates on me.
You're not missing out, I never used the touch screen and the game's fine for me without ever using the stylus. Actually it's faster for me to use the buttons because my hand-eye coordination is terrible with the stylus.

This is actually what I ended up doing. I got a good technique going after a few weeks.

I too remember the brilliance of the older games, but if you're going to implement a more ergonomic design in later titles, I think it would at least make sense to include the king of ergonomy, the southpaw layout.

wait i thought you could turn your ds to function left then all games just work lefty using the ab buttons as d pad and the dpad as ab and such? or am i going insane again
I MUST investigate this. However, it is late here now, and I can't find my DS. I'll get back to you.

Edit: By the way, this thread is nearly 6 months old. I'm very impressed Escapees.

I don't use the touch screen for much. In addition, my left hand is about as good as my right. So, I'm almost ambidextrous.
