I'd have to say Digimon for the simple reason that the pineapple-headed ***** seems more capable than the scarf-wearers, and the fact that some Digimon have machine guns for hands.

Which seasons? Cuase the Orange league was really good.

However, so was the (at least I thought) the fourth(?) season of digimon, where they had the spirit warriors fuse with them.

It looks like the general consensus is that Digimon had the better show while Pokemon had the better games. That seems pretty accurate. Digimon as a show was pretty awesome. Though I never really cared past the first season or two. The original group.

Man, this is hard. Digimon was the better show, but pokemon was also really good. Of course, inversely the pokemon games are pretty much all very good, whereas I have played ONE digimon game that is 'ehh' at best and at times subpar. I don't refer to the spin offs from either license, because those are pretty much all exclusively shite. Except maybe pokemon Snap, MAYBE.

But Digimon had a creature that embodied ALL darkness and hate. You can't compete with Apoclamon.

I vote for Digimon. (Based on the shows, I'd vote for Pokemon based on the games, and vote for none on the TCG if that was part of the general poll too.)

The first season of Digimon that is. After the first season the series kept doing that thing I hate that other series in shows, movies, comics, games do. They write up a lot of new stuff and act like it just came into existance and toss out much of the info from before in an effort to make something new instead of just using what you have in a better way. I liked all of the different Digimon series, I just got annoyed with how they kept editing out or in so much stuff every time, it not making it totally different like previous ones didn't exist.

Honestly what keeps me away from Pokemone is the damn pokespeak. I can't stand it. It just drives me nuts.

Are the pokemon named after what they say, or do they speak what they are named?

To hell with both of them, Metabots for the win!
That said, I'm still amazed both shows are still going.
If we going to bring up other options, I'd say Monster Rancher! That show was a lot of fun. But as for things going on and on and amazed its still around, what most surprises me is Power Rangers. How many dang themes can they come up with just to put out the same thing every year!?

Digimon, though it's really not that good. I swear half of every episode was just the monsters digivolving. And it was loaded with cheesiness. "Sora! The power of your love is giving me the ability to digivolve into...Birdramon!!" Birdramon? Seriously? Worst name ever.

And then there was this: ♪Hey Digimon! Hey Digimon! Monster friends to the boys and girls!♪

It's better than Pokemon, but that doesn't mean it's good.

At least in Digimon they decide to let the characters age. Ash been freaking 10 years old since 1995!

I shall make my first Escapist post on a discussion that I've been participating in since grade school. Fantastic!

Voted for Digimon. Had it's fair share of cheese and bad writing (they both did), Digimon is best to me. Season 3 (Tamers) I guess is getting more specific.

Ya, I'm among the typical Digimon fans. Show was great (though the dub was painful at points, though Tamers was watchable), but most of us will admit that the games were weak especially compared to Pokemon. You can kind of see this in the posts so far. I really do like both, but Digimon I guess goes the distance with it's anime. The seasons could stand on their own as their own series, were more mature, dubs were ok (season 3 had the painful puns under control and then...Frontier happened), character development, cooler designs, and bloody hell at least they didn't call riceballs "donuts". I hear a lot of people saying Digimon World is an unloved PS1 gem, and even though I did get some joy from it, it hasn't aged well and even back then Pokemon was a million times better. Card game was rather meh too (though I still have my Gazimon in hopes my Digivice transforms and becomes real).

Pokemon when it was still shiny and new was great, but it REALLY overstayed it's welcome. The anime has even gone far enough to repeat plot ideas from previous episodes (like how Butterfree left Ash to go with a sexy wild one, and Jessie's Dustox left to go with a sexy wild one). I took a break (stopped at Johto) and then "Holy moly. 600 episodes? Seriously?". I'm in my 20s and I've been playing Pokemon's handheld games since I begged my parents for a Gameboy in the 90s, so I guess they're still doing something right in the games department.

Glad no one here has gone into the dribble of what happens on other discussions about how Digimon ripped off Pokemon at every turn. It's hilarious when they say that Agumon ripped off Charmander (Pokemon invented fire lizards don'cha know), or Kyuubimon ripped off Ninetales (to be fair, Kyuubimon and Taomon was closer to Ninetails from Okami with the whole paintbrush thing. Though to be even more fair, magical fox beasts have been been around in Japanese mythology and in pop culture from Sonic to Naruto).

As far as animes go, I preferred Digimon more because it had more of a developed plot than pokemon, plus the Digimon characters were rather well fleshed out for the short 50 episode season they had. Pokemon relied more on cutsey characters and was trying to follow the game as close as possible. Digimon on the other hand didn't have to worry too much about a game storyline and had tons of characters that seemed more realistic than pokemon. (Heck the digimon talked, had complex emotions and thought processes, became hungry on a daily basis and actually had to go make poops. And when they digivolved it wasn't permanent and they could revert back.)

Pokemon was essentially a game first and an anime second, especially since Ash just comes off as an egotistical bastard most of the time. He constantly yells and often charges ahead without thinking about anything. Not only that but he does constantly have to get involved in everyone's business all the time. (I guess that's why I liked Brock more, since Brock was a more well-rounded character even though he didn't get a whole heck of a lot of screen time. His motives were clear, he set goals and did all he could to follow his dreams.) I don't know, I guess I'm just a sucker for an actual coherent plot line rather than a ton of random occurrence episodes.

I watched way more Pokemon than Digimon, but I do remember having a Digimon backpack. I remember not being sure which one I was watching because Digimon had the guy who looked a lot like Charmander.

Digimon was more practical, i could live in the real world and pretend i still had a digital gardian. it sounds like a digital vs natural thing
Digimon are more humanistic then pokemon
Pokemon are more like animals then humans.... hence no animals
and i like the fact that a bunch of nerds created the world, that helps too

I like Digimon better.

Pokemon actually bored me by the time I was in fourth grade. It takes a LOT to bore a 4th grader.

Now, Digimon...That show kicked ASS.
DAMN STRAIGHT SON!!

And secondly

WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon Own every Pokemon ever created

Dude... Gargomon alone could do that... because his hands are freaking miniguns... and he has pants...

It's better than Pokemon, but that doesn't mean it's good.
On the plus side... it did age with its fanbase better. Remember how Series 1 & 2 were generally happy and had a good ending, everyone lives happily ever after, power of friendship solves everything, etc...

Remember how Series 3 was borderline sadistic in its rampant violence, character killing, Lovecraftian Horror, and angst?

Pokemon, without a doubt. Digimon always just felt like a cheap knock off to me.
FACT: Digimon was originally a line of virtual pet toys made by Bandai in the late '80s
in response to little boys who didn't like Tamagotchi, thus predating Pokemon.

Thank you and goodnight.

Finally someone else who realises that Digimon wasn't "copying" Pokemon (As the kids in the playground used to say).

Either way I can't choose. Pokemon I will forever love (games, cards and TV show)in a nostalgic way, where as every now and again Digimon comes and slaps me round the face with a cannon and I remember just how awesome all the monster designs are.

seriously. Omnimon <3

This reminds me of a fantastic picture someone once drew, where Pikachu and Wargreymon are stood next to each other with Ash and Tai in the background. Pikachu thunderbolts Wargreymon and it just bounces off, then Wargreymon just stamps on the little yellow rat while Ash starts crying in the background.

OT: At the time I'd say Pokemon for the games but Digimon for the series and movies. Thing is, nowadays I still go back and watch Digimon, whereas I don't even know where my pokemon games are anymore.

EDIT: Also, have you heard the soundtrack to the Digimon movie? It's effing a!

Yeah, I was pretty big into digimon as a kid. Say what you want, but I remember stuff actually going on in digimon (like world threatening events and so on). In pokémon even the gym encounters felt kind of anti-climactic.
Also, I remember from digimon my first example of "it's funny, cause he's saying what we're all thinking". So there's this one digimon who devides the sea to leave a path of dry land in between walls of water, right? So, yeah... this kid basically says what we're all thinking. ;)

(Man, that was long ago... Thanks for bringing back some childhood memories.)
