I will agree that many of the pokemon are lackluster lately, but there are a few gems among them. But just remember, there were always a few of the original 151 pokemon that just never settled right, they were also duds. This is in the same fashion that The Simpsons used to be mostly good episodes with a few duds here and there, yet now the episodes are mostly trash with a few jems every season. For these few gems, we allow The Simpsons to limp along, so to be fair, pokemon can do it too.
I love your comparison, but I haven't watched the Simpsons regularly since it jumped the shark for me in season 8 or 9. Same goes for Pokemon. I haven't really followed the Pokemon games since the shark-jumping Gold and Silver. Your comparison works both ways.

Dude...they have like hundreds of series...and every season copies the previous...it's exactly the same thing...and the show is retarded as well

I'm just glad that they're remaking Gold and Silver.... but yes they new.... creations... are quite.... uncreative
While I agree that the new iterations lacked the charm of the original two generations, I find it funny that you're glad they are remaking GSC, probably the way kids who are playing the current generation games would love a remake when they are older...

I believe they got out of hand when they decided that they would make more than 150. I find it completely illogical that their have been 150 types and in just a few years that number quadruples. Can you imagine if something like that happened in real life. Imagine new species popping up all over the world every couple of years. I believe they could have still done plenty with the original set and still have the series going on today. I mean most of the new pokemon are variations on the old ones. If it weren't for the card game which airs commercials every week with a brand new set of pokemon cards, I might still watch the show but they lost my attention when I couldn't even recognize half the pokemon during the show. I could go on like how Ash is supposed to make a living being a Pokemon trainer. Is there some government aid program paying people to be Pokemon trainers or something or is his mom sending his money and what the hell does she do fo a living.

Yes it has gotten out of hand but taking into consideration the little kids of today see it as amazing just as much as when we all first played/watched it.

Its good that pokemon is still going on however its nothing like how it used to be.
Im just glad i can say i lived in the time and grew up playing the games , going to the cinema to see the movies and watching it on t.v as soon as i got home from primary school.

Good Memories!

They have far too many Pokemon now, I've lost count. It's no wonder all the new ones are unspeakably hideous. But hey, Nintendo milks old franchises. What else is new?

gold and silver were the pinnacle of Pokemon games
Agreed, it fell very far after those games which is a real shame.

Actual number of Pokemon is 486, and yeah, that's too much. I don't even know what they are going to do for legendaries now in their next game.

The newer 'mons are pretty stale, but somehow they don't seem quite as bad as your average fan-made pokemon.
But hey, it was bound to reach this point sooner or later; there's only so much creativity possible in a single idea. I mean hell, they've even got a pokemon GOD now; how the hell are they gonna top that?

The original 150 were great, 250 would be fine a stretch, but then they started repeating creatures all over again. There's now about six variations of Pikachu, that are all speedy little lightning-vermin.

Then we have the legendaries; there's something ridiculous like twenty of them now. Way too many.

...And the HM moves! Dear God the HM moves...Surf, dive, waterfall, paddle, float, drown, so many fuckin' HM moves I had two separate Pokemon with nothing by HM moves and the other four to actually battle.

Why can't we have some variation in terms of starting Pokemon too? I mean, Grass-Fire-Water is well balanced in terms of that one is always weak against another, but so would, say, Fighting-Darkness-Psychic.

Is "Gotta catch em' all" even part of the franchise anymore? Catching them all was hard enough in Red and Blue version, what with the stupid trades you would have to make just to get the freaking things to evolve, and of course the impossible safari zone where all you had was a rock, bait, and some poke balls. Now there's like, 450 or something. Whoever can catch all of those things has way too much time on their hands.

It's still the same game as red and blue, it just has more sprites. Unless you are a pokemon fan, in which case:
"It's completely different, they added this move called stealth rock which completely revolutionizes pokemon."

First two were the best, no doubt.

As far as creativity per Pokemon goes there's more now than there ever was, as an example, Squirtle is a turtle plain and simple... Charizard is a dragon with a flame at the end of it's tail. However, don't get me wrong, the first 2 generations were do doubt the best.

Hahaha thank you! Those things were such a waste of space! I remember in Silver version alone there were like 3 HM's that could only be used by water types...which pretty much made my Feraligatr suck ass.

I agree, which is why I've "retired" as a Pokemon trainer. I think they reached their peak around Gold/Silver/Crystal era. The Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald games still felt like they had some creative spark left, after all I love Rayquaza. However now that Diamond and Pearl have come along I think they've lost the spark and are just milking the franchise for all it's worth.

It's got to the point where they're pulling an Activision on the franchise. They're just milking it so hard even after death. It's basically Nintendo's rendition of Guitar Hero. Same Gameplay with a few features to make it the slightest bit worth a damn.
