Poll: Poles, do we need a poll?

Poles have long captured the fancy of people the world over. From the poorest peasant living in the shadow of a collapsed Soviet-era munititions factory to the wealthiest drug kingpin lounging poolside in Miami, few can resist the allure of a well-constructed pole.

Flag, barber, fireman's -- whatever variety you prefer, the pole is the great equalizer in our busy modern world.

Thus, I posit the creation of a poll designed specifically to gauge the general public's opinion of poles. A pole poll, if you will. What say you?

I've always been partial to a good pole. It takes me back to learning about hyper-religious preachers back in Rome who would sit on top of pillars as a way of isolating themselves from society.

Why is there pole vaulting, but no pole vaults?

I was expecting some sort of bizarre discussion about Poland. Instead, I got a bizarre discussion about structural supports. Huh.

OT: Yes, of course. Poles are an important part of people's lives. A pole poll would be perfect.

I think that any public discussion about their merits and shortcomings should be kept to a minimum, as they tend to degenerate from simple statements of opinion into outright polemic.

Ah yes poles, a true Warriors weapon!
My great great great great great great great great great great great great great great Grandfather while fighting in one of the many wars between England and France had his life saved by a pole killing a French Infantry man before he could stab my ancestor!...well, it was a Spear that had a pole as part of it... and the Spear was being held by another French Infantry man who was under experienced and confused...
Though still, I owe my very life to Poles and Spears! And sadly, the accursed French...
Damn you and your verbs being slightly different depending on the persons Gender and whether it's singular or plural!

Poles. Such wonderful devices. They help our chairs stay off the ground, they keep our tables afloat. They're in our vehicles, in our bars, and at the strippers.

Yes, we are a society obsessed with poles. And we never realized it until this very topic occured. Go figure o_O

The Poles fight like hell. They gain my approval.

Oh, you mean poles? Very useful. In fact, there are some holding up the tent I'm stalking a member of this site in camping in.

At first I thought this had to do with people from Poland. I must admit I'm a little disappointed.

I like barber shop poles because their pattern reminds me of candy canes. Unfortunately such poles have fallen out of fashion. There should be a movement to bring barber poles back.

My brain has just exploded because of the vast number of poles in this idea that my brain can't keep up with it.

OT: I love poles, they do so many wonderful things. In fact the pole outside my work place has been giving me funny looks recently and I am now scared to leave at night, I think it want's to rape me.

This poll regarding poles is so terribly punny I might just have to fly a flag and rejoice. Because really, in this day and age, we should be able to freely talk about our favorite poles without the fear of persecution.

As I've always wanted to slide down a fireman's pole, I support and always will support the initiative to replace all stairs, elevators, and escalators with poles.

I came in expecting a debate about poll tax in Poland. Instead...this.

Personally, I'm rather a fan of poles. They're wonderfully useful for holding things up, like porches, firemen, and scantily clad women. Oh, and flags! Without them all we'd have would be banners, and they're nowhere near as much fun.

Ah, I thought this a was about the frankly criminal marginalisation of people from Poland on this site.

I, for one, do not have any problem with Polish people. They're a healthy bunch with an economy that could be compared to Branston Pickle, tangy.
