I havn't seen any posts like this so I don't think I'm double posting.

I'm curious who would you chose? In the poll above choose Politician A, B, or C. They are:

Politician a: Associates with crooked politicians, and consults with astrologists. Had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.

Politician b: Got kicked out of office twice, rises from bed at 11am, used opium in college and drinks champagne, brandy, and whiskey to excess every day.

Politician c: Is a decorated war hero. vegetarian, doesn't smoke or drink, and hasn't had any extramarital affairs.

Have you chosen? O.K. good now scroll down and see who you picked.
NOTE: These are real politician and these are their real manerisms.

This far enough? I hope. Alright these are the three politcians:

If you chose Politician A who: associates with crooked politicians, and consults with astrologists. had two mistresses. he also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.

You chose President Teddy Roosevelt

If you chose Politician B who: was kicked out of office twice, rises from bed at 11am, used opium in college and drinks champagne, brandy, and whiskey to excess every day.

You chose Winston Churchill

And if you chose Politician C (which you most likely did) who: is a decorated war hero. vegetarian, doesn't smoke or drink, and hasn't had any extramarital affairs.

You chose Adolf Hitler

So who'd ya choose?

god is this thing old. remember this from my civics class in 4th grade (14 years ago). that being said, i chose winston churchill because he wasant afraid to say what he meant no matter who it angered and it saw people and the world for who/what they were. in my opinion the world needs people like churchill today, but unfortuanetly they seem to not be around.

anyway, theres kind of a misnomer with hitler. hitler married eva braun only a month before they killed each other, however while they were dating hitler WAS involved with several other women (several of whom killed themselves), so while he didnt have any extramarital affairs he WAS involved in paligamious relationships prior to his marrige.

Congratulations, you've proven that it's possible to put anybody in a good or bad light through selective listing of their characteristics. It's something we should all keep in mind when dealing with politicians. I've seen this before, so I knew to pick B.

Politician D could be an one-eyed overweight Scotsman who got so bored during lectures at university he spent most of his time wanking...no?
Anyway...
This is why people choose politicians on their policies and not their personalities. At least, I hope they do. Otherwise the next Prime Minister will probably be Wayne Rooney.

(I fell for C, of course)

I actually chose A because I don't trust vegetarians.
Just kidding, but I still chose A because C didn't sound reasonable.

Yeah, I already knew who these people were after I read the first. This is a very common set of bullshittery. It's no different than the abortion one, which is another set of bullshittery.

Giving a scant list of attributes and saying "HAVE A GO AT IT!" isn't how anyone chooses a leader.

A or B. I wouldn't let any so called "warhero" to be a president, they tend to be (even though not always, I guess) full of shit and filled with stupid predispositions if not crazy.

And the whole thing with not smoking or drinking shouldn't have anything to do with the presidency. Or vegetarianism. These are personal qualities which don't matter at all - unless he (or she) tries to push them on everyone.
On the other hand, A still associates with crooked politicians and astrologers, and B got kicked from office. I think those would be considered far greater flaws than being a decorated war hero. With the information given, it's probably still best to pick C, simply because the most scandelous thing he's (apparently) done is be highly patriotic. Of course, the smart thing to do would be to ask for more information.

Not to mention, I could be underestimating just how harshly you judge a politician based on them having been in the military.

Arguably C was also the largest idealist. I think that the purpose of this concept is to illustrate the false association between personal failures or 'sins' and how good some politican was.

Taking the examples of martin luther king, mao, stalin extc, i would say that there is practically no correlation between personal evils and how good they are as leader.

anyone else agree?

still those where their attributes roosevelt delt with crooked politicians winston was kicked out of office and the most scandalous thing hitler ever did was be patriotic (im not siding with him the holocaust was actually out of patriatism)

I chose B because I don't trust a politician who sounded as clean as C, as they often turn out to be the most corrupt.
I'll admit I was surprised when I scrolled down, I figured I was just being my paranoid self. >.>

No, it wasn't. Germany had a very well integrated Jewish community, many of them in important official/industrial/societal positions.

I agree with Gormourn, personal failures don't bother me too much. One of the reasons I never cared about Clinton's... stuff. I want a politician to be a good politician, not a saint.
