Lack of political correctness leads to some people in the US acting retarded and thinking ALL MOOSLEMS ARE EVULS!1!!1
That has nothing to do with political correctness and everything to do with the existence of the stereotypical "redneck".

o rly?

When I went down south you would not believe how many times I was called "towel head" the only place where people were decent was Florida.

Can't stand political correctness, it started out with good goals but just doesn't work in practice. Though I like 'chemically inconvienced' as a replacement for stoned

I cant fucking stand Political Correctness. By being forced to watch what you say and do so you dont offend others, you are being offended yourself. Censorship = Bad.

Also, words are just words, they only have power if you want them to.

Am I politically correct? No?

Then I'd be a hypocrite for supporting it.

Which is why I'm a big fan of comedians who... overstep their boundaries. (Tard Happy)
Reminds me of a Nick Swardson joke, he says that he said retard at a show, and afterwards a lady told him that saying retard is offensive to people who know the mentally challenged. and he shouldnt say it. He then said "thats retarded"

This does indeed seem like a rather extreme interpretation of Political Correctness. Being a student of Anthropology, and Cultural Anthropology specifically, it behooves me to be capable of not pissing everyone off. However, the changes cited seem to be aimed at appeasing people determined to be offended at you. However, I'm not a good judge of the animosity those words and phrases generate in their respective communities, as I'm not often around them.

I understand, also, the aim of these changes is to alter the psyche through the language. It's less to avoid offending people now than to stop the term "black," or what have you, from having a negative connotation, which ideally will steer future generations from offending/oppressing people in the future. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure it will work, even if our entire population was behind it, though there is some basis in theory.

Anyways, this proposal isn't deserving of outrage. It's just rather interesting.

Actually most lefties (myself included) are for all forms of freedom. Freedom of speech is one of the most important one, lefties try to defend it, actively.

Who you really are trying to blame is the "pussy lefties" or as the like to be known "overly-sensitive-minded"...

God damn hippies.

You know, most people who go "BURR BURR BURR POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD BLUSTER SPLUTTER *drop monocle*" are usually from a group of people who don't face insults everywhere they go, at any time. I get insulted if I'm unlucky when I switch on the TV and some comedian is using me as a cheap joke yet again. I get insulted when I walk down the street by people who've never met me. I get insulted when some forum moron thinks he's cracking a funny by insinuating someone might be like me. I get insulted at pretty much any time, and you know what? It actually fucking hurts. Sticks and stones is all well and good until it's all you ever hear about yourself, because I don't live in a vacuum. Like everyone else on the planet, I care what other people think about me. Because it directly affects how I can live my life. It affects how acceptable it is to assault, rape, and kill me - all more statistically likely than me dying of old age, FYI. And you know what else I've noticed? People who bluster on about political correctness are the sort of people who just want an excuse to insult me and not be looked down upon in kind for it. They're children of the highest order. They want to be socially irresponsible and not suffer the consequences, because they'd far rather I shut the fuck up and suffered it for them.

Yes there are absurd applications of political correctness. But I'll take a world where it's unacceptable for others to call me whatever twisted little name pops into their head over a world where it is. I'm more likely to survive there.

I hate it when people think retard is not politically correct, IT'S THE MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS, how can it be anymore politically correct?!

More on topic, yes I am in favor of political correctness, but we shouldn't at the same time water down the English language by calling someone that's fat "big boned".

Update: An astonishing 71% AGAINST politcial correctness. Wow...

I sincerely hope that what you read was supposed to be a parody. While I'm all for being diplomatic, that description smacks of everything I find wrong with political correctness. Incidentally, the black sheep thing came from literal black sheep, not African nationality.

Frankly, political correctness creates more tension than it prevents, and sometimes it doesn't even make sense. Why is 'people of color' politically correct whereas 'colored people' is a racial slur?

I hold the same policy I have always held. To qoute the ancient prophet of the greek gods, Everything in moderation. Besides there should always be a line where common sense take over, I'm just a bit upset that the line is getting thinner and thinner every day.
Dude. The greek gods turned into animals and raped people, as well as party hard. I'd find it hard to use them as role models.

OT: I don't go out of my way to offend people(unless I'm in a really rotten mood), but I say screw political correctness, it's stupid. I'd elaborate on that, but it's 01:22 AM here.

So Stan Lee credits the drop in overt(?) racism with political correctness? There can be lots of other things that caused that.
Stan Lee? What? Isn't he the comic book guy? Why would he be in Birmingham?

Father Time said:
What Stan Lee is talking about is simply hiding the fact that people are racists which will only lead us into thinking racism is not a big of a problem as it really is and thus we won't address it correctly.
Bullshit. I'm guessing along with this comment (and the big quote you edited out where you agreed with Carlin that "******" isn't an offensive word by itself, it needs "context") that you aren't a minority. That you haven't experienced serious discrimination.

I don't care that people are still racists. I don't care that they are hiding it. In a perfect world, no one would be a racist but I can't do anything about that. Yes, people are racist. Political correctness hasn't changed that. If you think Lee was suggesting that it has, you've missed the point a bit.

Political correctness however, has made people watch what they speak. It's made people think before opening their mouth to say something hurtful. Stewart Lee also said this:

"Political correctness has made the conservative party hide their racism behind more inventive language".

That is a positive. If someone hates me for being an Algerian or for being a Muslim, they are allowed to. I don't accept however, someone calling me a "sand ******" in the middle of the street. Or someone calling me a terrorist. Sure, they may be thinking these things - but that is a lot better than saying it. For now.

Political correctness is simply a way to hide people's bias... I really think we should be more transparent and harder to offend.

There is no such thing as racial equality or politically correct statements. Same with gender equality.

Example 1: Violence against women is a huge topic but if a woman beats up a man it's hardly ever publicized.

Example 2: How many gay pride parades do you see? How many straight pride parades do you see?

Example 3: Black History Month. (I have nothing against black people or women or gay people btw) There isn't a white history month, hispanic history month, asian history month.

Example 4: People of visible minorities can complain that they don't get a job because they are a visible minority and then get said job but a person of a majority is not able to complain that they lost the chance to get a job simply because their company was too scared of litigation that they felt they needed to hire an applicant based on his or her gender, race or sexual orientation.

Example 5: You can't say Merry Christmas in alot of places anymore it needs to be Happy Holidays, a Christmas Tree is a holiday tree and alot of schools are doing away with Christmas Pagents all together but people that celebrate Kwanzaa or Hanukkah are fully able to celebrate their holidays without these same restrictions.

There are of course alot more than this for examples and again I would like stress that I have nothing against people of other genders or race or orientation but I am against the term politically correct and how it practically reads "Hypocritical Action."

Changing the word doesn't change the spirit. It would just make the racists and sexists harder to identify, while simultaneously inconveniencing the rest of us with half a brain between us.

Its bullshit to a point. If something is potentially offensive that does not mean it shouldn't be allowed into public view, hell a lot of the time its better that it does. Though some things just should not be displayed to those who don't want to see it. Photos of botched abortions come to mind.
