Mass Effect 1 is easily the better game in my opinion, more due to ME2's flaws...

Mass Effect 2 was a much more casual friendly experience that took away all the great things from the first game.

. The main story is so bad I'm amazed people think it's acceptable [it takes a step sideways, not forward].

. The main plot also destroys existing lore and uses the books as a baseline, not the first game.

. The second games combat is less open to player decision, it's just another corridor shooter with limited tactical options.

. This is also true of the upgrade system - seem "streamline" was another word for "get rid of".

. The game lacks things to do. You could practically get lost in the Citadel on ME1, in ME2 it, along with the rest of the world, is reduced to a near corridor. The game is also entirely based around conversations and combat - there's no Mako to change the action.

. The moral choices are reduced to quick-time events, and they aren't any shade of grey - they're entirely black and white, and depending on your choice they don't even matter...

. The games class system is severely reduced in terms of different styles of play.

. There is no interesting squad interaction [in that amongst the squad].

Mass Effect 2

Mostly because it got me more attached to my characters than ANY other game

But I love both Mass Effect 1 and 2

In Mass Effect 1 the universe seemed huge and diverse.
In Mass Effect 2 it seemed insular and small(like pretty much all you kill is mercenaries over and over).

I prefer the first for many reasons but the insular part of ME2 is the major one.

It's kind of a toss up for me.

On one hand, I enjoyed the Mass Effect 1 story a lot more, the choices felt a bit more dire, and it was nice being able to use multiple powers without having to wait for a universal recharge time.

On the OTHER hand, Mass Effect 2 had much better shooting mechanics, more unique weapons, armor and sidequests, and was a good deal longer and more accessible than its predecessor.

I guess it's a draw for me. I love both of them. Which is probably why I've beaten both about 10 times each.

Two is better for me.

Since in one your only interesting squad mates were Garrus and Wrex.

But then in the second you get Mordin, Grunt, Garrus again, Samara, Zaeed, Kasumi, and Tali.

I dont know. They Both have things that I like. I liked ME 1 because my one of my favorite characters was actually in it for more than the end of a mission and I liked leveling up in ME1 better cause ME2 leveling up just didnt do it for me, I didnt like how you had to have a certain amount of points to level up skills, However I do like ME2's combat better, I liked the fact that my damn sniper rifle wouldnt shake around the place and glad it got rid of that Overheat crap, I like spamming shots thank you very much.. until I run out of ammo >_>. I also actually enjoyed the Mako and was sad that i couldnt use it in ME2. I also think the romances where better done in ME1, They seemed kinda forced in ME2. Oh and I liked covering better in ME2, It was so awkward for me in ME1 and finally I liked my level 60 cap in ME1 cause once I got to level 30 in ME2 I didnt want to continue playing.

[small]I think thats the longest post ive typed[/small]

ME1 was the winner to me. I missed modding up the weapons to get that right setup, and even though alot of the planets and bases were generic designs, it still have more of a feel of you GOING THROUGH A GALAXY, then spending hours probing planets so that you could get x-upgrade.

ME2 was fun and all, and i did like the uniquity of the weapon looks..ahd the Cain was good when used :D, but..probing was annoying as hell, and to get the more complete ME2-experience, you had to do a ungodly amount of ME1 playthroughs, being careful how you do given actions to get the given reactions, then do the appropiate amount of ME2 replays for the finished result..

so kudos to the one they have you go back to xD
