As I said before I'll watch some of it, but it sucks that the most events that I would actually like to watch are broadcasted in the middle of the friggin' night. I was really looking forward to half-pipe and freestyle snowboarding and skiing. But nooo.... Might catch some hockey though.

It also doesn't help that the events I find the least attractive to watch, ice skating (except figure skating, I find that strangely beautiful...don't judge me!), is getting by far the most coverage here. Wretched Sven Kramer...

No.
I will, however, be watching the Paralympics.
Or at least some of it.
Because you can see cyborgs competing on the racing track? I know they have a disability and all, but I can't help but think that those prosthetic limbs look completely friggin' awesome. [small]Sorry...[/small]

I'll be watching none of it, myself. All over-paid 'athletes' paid to do what amounts to a hobby or exercise. Plus you get all the inevitable guff with doping and cheating allegations - it's the mainstream equivalent of Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer mode on X-box Live to me.
Yeah... Except actual Olympic athletes get paid next to nothing for what they do, and do in fact need to have normal jobs. They can maybe do a Cheerios commercial for an easy paycheck but that's about all they get out of it. Some countries offer cash prizes, but the US gave out $25,000 as the maximum prize to gold medalists, which isn't a heck of a lot considering the time the athletes put into it. Why do you think there are so many "Support Olympic Athletes" foundations? It's because they get paid bugger all for what they do.
I didn't know all that. I just assumed that by donning all expensive kit they get a lot of money from what they did. I had always assumed they got paid in the same way that football ( or soccer) players did - via a professional body and sponsorship deals.

Thanks for telling me all this, I've learnt something there. :)
yeah you look at all the high tech stuff they get and then you realise, thats a gift from a big name company for advertising. Thats why the downhill skiers always take off one ski at the bottom and hold it up so you can see who made it. some countries pay their olympians better though.
I always liked the skiing, I always got the impression it was pretty dangerous to go the speeds those boys go.
Yeah. i used to race slalom and giant slalom. I can tell you one mistake and boom pain. I blew my knee pretty bad doing that. The speed is amazing though. It's such a thrill. I was driving my car on the highway one day and i lokked and my speedometer and i just thought to myself that i have done this speed before not in a car but going downhill on two strips of plastic resin fibreglass. 85kmph...man it's just amazing. go try it some day. you won't regret it. unless you wipe out. that hurts
Sounds like a lot of fun, but I'd have to wrap up nice and warm. Though I can't imagine how bad the pain must be when one wipes out at 86kph. And I thought that wiping out against a stone wall on my bike at just under half that speed was bad. :)

There are no other events at the Winter Olympics. Everything else is just not exciting enough, but my Humax is set for those ones.

I'll care about the Olympics when they put football in it, otherwise I just don't care about any of the spots they have on
I'm afraid you'll never see football in the olympics. There just aren't enough countries internationally that play. Besides the Americans have enough walkaway medals as it is. Do you guys really need another gimme?

O.T My wife and I have had it playing in the background all weekend. It was a heartbreaker when Heil was beat out by Kearney last night in moguls. No disrespect to Kearney, her run was the better of the two. I still can't help, but feel sorry for Heil though.

It's a massive waste of money...
Plus 99% of it is boring to watch.
You should DO those things yourself, folks!

Skiing holiday ftw!

Not a big Olympics fan (Summer or Winter), but since it was RAG Week at college (a Students Union-sponsored all-week beerfest of sorts) I've never been near a TV to catch most of it.

Nonetheless I still somehow managed to catch the men's snowboard halfpipe finals, women's short track speed skating, a bit of curling, and the men's doubles luge.

Nonetheless I was pretty out of it watching it, but that 1260 McTwist... just wow.

If I could afford it, I would ski, tricky to do in southeast US.
