I am swinging heavily between the BattleTech/MechWarrior type of mechs and the ACs of the Armored Core games (mostly so in the latest installments of AC 4 and AC-for Answer).

They are simply the most powerful and most interisting types in my book without appearing like "yea, fuck you, Deathstar, this thing own's ya!"-type like in Gundam (I really don't know why one mech there with 1 rifle was able to over-kill an entire base from space... I just don't get it).

Mechwarrior/Battletech: As realistic as a mech can be displayed in our current generation. Huge, powerful but difficult to handle. And I am not going to compare that to MechAssault here, but the true simulation titles, whereas MechWarrior 3 is my most favourite in terms of balance between heavy simulation titan and fun to pick-up and play (for me at least).

Armored Core: The key word here: Customization. Just pretty much everything is possible. From the small, fast, MP/Blade armed types till heavy tank-torso, shoulder-mounted SAM-turret type of anihilation, everyhting's possible. And while they are surely far too fast and agile for what current technology is capable off... it is not THAT impossible, given that we are still learning in technology.

There you have my choices :)

Hmm... so you hate Evangelion, neh? Too sad, it's a terrific story but I guess not everyone can enjoy it. Ya know, not every main protagonist must be big, musclebound and fearless to run in and destroy every enemy in sight. I have a feeling you completely missed the point of NGE if that's the conclusion you've come to.
no. i used to like it. still like it ti this day... but looking how they would act... it makes me actually voice out how horrible our future would look like if they were humanity's last hope.

I was actually expecting this to be a choice between super robot or real robot, not the actual different mechs themselves.

Also it just seems like this was a chance to take a stab at Evangelionm, talk about pathetic, if you wanna make a hate thread just do it and get banned peacefully.
eh. it wasn't a cheap stab at NGE, i was voicing an opinion.

Always thought the Battle Suit from Red Faction 2 was a beastly looking thing. It just looks mean.

Failing that, do movies count? Because if so I loved the design of the "Prawn" Battle System from District 9. Movement faster than a car, jumps from roof to roof, reflex enhancers (it catches an rpg in mid-flight), lightning cannon, plasma flak gun, multiple micro-missiles, a defence system sort of like a Gravity Gun (it grabs 5 full clips worth of bullets shot at it and fires them all back at their shooters, and also shoots a dead pig at someone to kill them), ability to survive anti-tank sniper rounds, but the coolest thing that I like about it is that it's not particularly large, about twice the hight of a human, and it seems far more organic in movement than mechanical, sort of like a wild animal, and this to me just seems like a really cool and original way to portray mechs.

That and it's also the only real mech ever made in a film which truly kicks some soldier ass.
yes. it counts. the Other selection is there in case i missed a mech.

Regardless of what that opinion could have possibly been, you completely changed the topic in your opening post with it. Talking about your favourite kind of mech is one thing, but instead you decide to talk about the people piloting them which has nothing to do with your opinion of the machine. Its just like saying "Damn, that monster truck is awesome, shame the person driving it is a retard." It still wouldn't change what you felt about the truck.

Also, you didn't even bother to say why you liked the mechs yourself, care to give a bit of detail?

Anime mechs are for wimps. True men walk around in mechs that could step on an EVA and not notice.

Actually looking at the scale in that picture your wrong =P If DoW2 is anything to go by, then a dreadnaught is about twice the size of a normal person (which im pretty sure is the one in the bottom-left corner) and then comparing it to giant walker i'd say it would be roughly the same size as an Evangelion, if not possibly a bit bigger. Bare in mind this is based on my crappy Warhammer knowledge so I may be drastically wrong =D

well. Gundams are a bit more like soldiers or tanks, although as someone said in this that anybody could pilot one tells how simple they are to use.
Glastonberrys are a bit like Gundams in a sense. i haven't really seen any pictures or played No More Heroes, but the idea of giant mechs being piloted by cheerful girls is a bit more englihtening than half-human-half-machine monsters being piloted by 3 depressives

I agree what someone above me said about the power suit mech thing from District 9 that thing was fast and heavily armed.

Also most of the mechs from Mech Assault, and if they count AT-ATs.

I'm going to go with 40K. Mecha are nice in principle, but a 20 foot tall, walking battle sarcophagus is nut bustingly AWESOME in principle. Doubley so for the km tall walking battle CATHEDRAL.

Edit: Hang on. My apologies, Xaviaxenn, I righteously buggered up this quote tag. I'll sort it with the edit after this.

Edit Edit Edit, Even though the post with Edit 2 is now gone: This post has taken up far too much time, so I'ma just gonna leave it as it is now and hope that its sloppiness doesn't offend anyone.

I guess it would be Gundams since I'm not not very initiated in mecha manga and anime.
Wait, do exoskeletons (Aliens, Avatar, ReBoot, Matrix Revolutions kinda) count?
as said before, if it's robotic and human-piloted, it counts.
I guess I choose exos then. One of the coolest scenes in movie history was when Ripley fought the queen in Aliens.

Gundams.

Gundams all the way.

Either the upgraded GMs from the 08th MS Team, or the Daggers from SEED.

no the scale is right, that's a Warhound titan, and the [b]dreadnoughts[/b] aren't twice the size of a normal person, close to 2-3 times the size of a space marine in full power armour, and given that an average space marine is well over two and a half meters tall unarmoured, that puts them at around 10-12 meters tall, a warhound is 25-30 meters tall, and it's the baby of the family.

The Warhound is the "scout" titan, the Reaver's rock in at 40-45 meters tall, the Warlord's at 60-70 meters tall, and the grand daddys of them all the Imperator and Warmonger Titans are so big they can carry buildings on their shoulders to house troops.
