http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pacific_Garbage_Patch

recently i read an article in the newspaper
apparently plastic pollutants being dumped into the pacific has created a massive island of plastic twice the size of the average american state
just think about that
you live in a pretty dammed big place
and somewhere out there
there is a massive island of plastic
hundreds of thousands of times biggert then ytour hosue
pretty epic
epicly sad. :(

guys
do your part
recycle
and dont buy bottled water
thats another thing
why bottled water?
its pretty much the same purity as tap water
sometimes even dirtier
while tap water has a ppm of i believe 190 something
nestle pure life has a ppm of over 500

so please
help out the environment
do your part

Tap water where?

Does Oregon have the same quality tap water as San Diego?

When you say things that that, you undermine your own argument.

Good intentions, though. Bring us truth, instead.

I drink bottled because I'm sick for days if I drink the tap water from my house.
Also, you can recycle plastic, as far as I'm aware.

I don't like bottled water. Not because of the pollution aspect, but because if you keep drinking/eating off of plastic items you increase the risk of cancer.

I drink bottled water because: I recycle the bottles and tap water tastes like a swimming pool.
Seriously, don't just look at one article and think you've found a solution to something.

That whole link screams of spiteful bias. How's that a valid source of info?

It's not. Cracked has never been a valid source of info. They obviously show bias and take stuff out of context to make it funny. It's meant for entertainment, not to be a valid source for information.

Now I love Cracked.com a lot, but they really aren't a valid source of info.

I drink neither because both are heavily polluted around me. Last time I drank tap I had diarrhea for quite some time. And the last time I bought bottled water I saw little creatures swimming around in the bottle.

Definitely. I check their site every day like...well...a crack addict.

That 28 days later: The Swine Flu Epidemic article [http://www.cracked.com/blog/28-days-swine-flu/] was epic.

Back on topic:
I only buy bottled when I have to, which isn't often.

The FDA regulates bottled water, and they don't really do a very good job of it.. Most bottled water comes from municipal sources, aka a tap.. It costs about 5x as much as gasoline.. The main reason tap water is vilified is by the soda companies trying to charge you for something, that in the first world, you can get at the drop of a hat.. Tap water won't kill you, and in MOST cases, especially in busy cities, so much of it gets used that it doesn't have time to sit in the pipes, which is where most of the bad taste comes from.. Add ice, make the water cold, and even a lot of those possible bad tastes disappear..

Believe me or not, I don't care, just don't throw your bottles in the trash.

Some people don't drink from the tap becuase the water in their area tastes god awful. I used to live in Florida and the tap water in my town tasted like sulfur. By the way, how big is the average American state anyway?

I drink tap water and if I'm going out, I'll take a bottle of it with me rather than buying a bottle. I don't do it to be good an' recycle though, I just don't like buying bottled water when I don't have to.

The tap water in my house is packed with chlorine and cow poo (there are frequent "accidental" manure spills into the river our water comes from)... Pool water tastes better than this stuff... So I have a giant deer park water cooler, a lot cheaper and more environmentally friendly than individual bottles. Though the cheap reason is the bigger reason.

And just so you know, Nestle PureLife was rated as the worst bottled water of them all, so using it to represent all bottled water just isn't fair.
