The taste of your water has more to do with the pipes it goes through than where it comes from, no?
For example, I live in a 130 year old Victorian home. I prefer the tap water upstairs (70 year old piping) to the water downstairs. Why? It just tastes sweeter, seems to have a bit more flavor to it from sitting in the pipes so long.
Our towns water comes from a reserve though, so it's pretty fresh. I know a friend in nebraska who has his own well, and the water which comes from it is very good.

Most tap water is pretty safe, and more regulated than bottled water. I've vacationed to various cities, and haven't really ever had a problem with their water, except a hotel in Phoenix AZ where "cold" was warm as fuck.

I see bottled water just a waste of money. The bottles are small, their caps are crap, and leave a bad taste in the mouth =/

I don't like bottled water. Not because of the pollution aspect, but because if you keep drinking/eating off of plastic items you increase the risk of cancer.

That whole link screams of spiteful bias. How's that a valid source of info?
It's not. Cracked has never been a valid source of info. They obviously show bias and take stuff out of context to make it funny. It's meant for entertainment, not to be a valid source for information.

Now I love Cracked.com a lot, but they really aren't a valid source of info.
I know haha, but you have to admit it is a good read.
Definitely. I check their site every day like...well...a crack addict.

That 28 days later: The Swine Flu Epidemic article [http://www.cracked.com/blog/28-days-swine-flu/] was epic.

Back on topic:
I only buy bottled when I have to, which isn't often.

The tap water in my house is packed with chlorine and cow poo (there are frequent "accidental" manure spills into the river our water comes from)... Pool water tastes better than this stuff... So I have a giant deer park water cooler, a lot cheaper and more environmentally friendly than individual bottles. Though the cheap reason is the bigger reason.
Where do you live? If you were to believe the advertisement for bottled water it'd come from some far away rain forest where apes and monkeys drop deuces in your drinking water. Not much better. Public water sources are pretty heavily regulated. The fact that you mentioned your tap water having chlorine tells me that the water is cleaned and filtered before reaching your tap. That means that any pollutants or cow poo gets left out of it.

In January of 2003, Consumer Reports stated "Bottled water isn't necessarily safer than tap water. About one-quarter of bottled water is tap water that has been processed and repackaged, according to industry estimates. And though bottled-water quality is overseen by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA,) whose standards for contaminants take into account the Environmental Protection Agency's tap-water standards, the two standards aren't always identical. For example, the EPA requires that tap water be monitored for asbestos, while the FDA imposes no such requirement on bottled-water manufacturers, maintaining that the sources aren't likely to contain asbestos.

If you are concerned about the purity of your drinking water, you might consider a home water treatment system as an alternative to bottled water. Most quality home water purification products can provide water superior to most bottled water, in the convenience of your own home and at a fraction of the cost.

EDIT: /thread.

You are already paying for tap water through your taxes. Why would you want to buy bottled water? Especially since a recent study showed that roughly 30% of bottled water companies violate their own standards for safety and quality. Even better, many of these bottled water companies take their water from a municipal source and sell the water that you're already paying for to you.

Bottled water is the biggest sham ever!!!

Did you know that tap water has more strict quality regulation than bottled water? Did you know theres only a couple people who oversee ALL bottled water in the entire US? Who's to even say "mountain springs" arent contaminated by humans dumping toxic shit on the land?

Seriously, a brita filter w/ tap water would most def produce healthier water (w/ the exception you live in coal mining country & have a well; all that water is hella contaminated)

Many bottled water companies don't use "mountain spring" water, they use water from the public water grid, which we already pay for in taxes.

Also when I used to live in the country we had safe tap water, although many of us took those huge water juggs and brought them down to a spring water source that essentially came out of a drilled hole in a rock. The water came from the ground and was filtered by both the soil and the rocks. It was pretty top notch quality too. The supply was actually inspected two times a year to make sure it was clean.

We drink bottled water here in Yuma, Primarily because the tap water tastes of sulfur, so yeah, I'm just going to disregard your advice.

I see wht you are trying to say, but you obviously have never tried the tap water in Oakland, or LA, or San Diego, or most desert cities in Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico. If you want to know nest time you go to the pool take a nice big drink.

Also dude you shouldn't belive everything you read in the newspapers, ar maybe that's just my swine flu talking.......

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with the tap water here. Some people complain about medicine remnants in it, but that means that if you drink 2 gallons of water everyday for a year, youll have consumed 2 whole aspirins. *gasp*

Also, if you drink bottled water, that basically means you pay 150 times as much for your drinking water. Think about it.

I hate bottled water and only buy it if I need the bottle itself (sometimes to use it for carrying tap water).

Water I bathe in is probably a lot cleaner than whatever you american people buy bottled :D

(Sometimes I do love being dutch :D)

i live in Canada, in ontario, i would count our tap water generally clean, but many people still go out and buy bottled water,
think about it this way
even if its just one family of four
they would consume about..7-8 bottles a day, put that into one year, you get over 2555 bottles.
and that into the amazing amount of people who buy it
thats alot of plastic
