Of the ones on the poll, the Team Fortress series, specifically TF2, gets my vote, even though I'm too much of a wuss to actually go onto the multi and spend all my time in either offline practice or alone on passworded servers on those achievement maps that are built to have boss-like constructions.

Off-poll... well, it depends. Is Left 4 Dead considered a FPS by the definition used here?
Trust me, join an MP game. Just stay away from stuff like the nightteam servers or de.saigns.

Where to start

1. Team Fortress and Counterstrike are Half-Life Mods. Not games.
2. Team Fortress 2 and Counterstrike Source are Half-Life 2 Mods. Not games.

Neither are a "series", and I would hardly call a "series" - 1 game with a sequel.

Why isn't Half-Life included in the vote, instead of the Half-Life Mods?

You may as well have just listed every single Half-Life Mod ever, and called it a "series".

/

And that's not even the main problem with this vote.

Where the hell is Quake?

The best FPS game ever made isn't even present as a choice.

/

Because of this, I had to vote for Battlefield.

But, if this vote was actually any good, The Quake Series would win with 100% of the vote.

/

PS. WTF is MAG, and why are Killzone and Halo even options in this vote :p

My FPS of choice is Day of Defeat: Source. It feels less arcade-y than counter strike with control point style game play and the potentially long and drawn out battles feel like a war rather than a short skirmish which to me is more immersive. Plus, nothing is better than hearing the sharp ping of your bullet hitting your opponents helmet.

FPS's are like cars, CoD is porsche it's good and all, but I've seen it by now.
Battlefield is like an Audi to me, a very good car which is incredibly good looking and well performing too.

The original Team Fortress was a Quake mod; TF2, Counter Strike, and Counter Strike: Source are their own games.

Technically two can be a series.

Half-Life isn't multiplayer. (Besides HL2: Deathmatch)

Very good question: Where is Quake?

If it wasn't good, why did you vote in it?

MAG was a multiplayer shooter that released a PS3-exclusive. It's biggest thing was that it had giant battle zones with up to 256 players at a time. It had a chain of command which worked out pretty well. Went like this.

8 player squads.
4 squad platoons.
4 platoon companies.

Popular multiplayer FPS games refers to games most commonly played today, not just the best FPS titles in general. I know TF and CS were mods from HL, but they have since earned their own credibility and repetoir, making them sometimes even more popular to play then even the original game of HL they were modded from.

This is why I seperated them. I'm not just talking in general about all FPS titles and I realise quake might also be popular, so thats why I said mention others like this if you play them, Quake to be frank isn't as talked about now as the other titles on that list despite how amazing it once was and still is. That's why I say popular, these games have thousands of people playing them competitivly everyday.

And MAG? The PS3 MMOFPS that pits 200+ people against each other in each match? Its pretty popular amongst PS3 owners looking for something other than the most heard of games.

how come i cant choose brink?
'Cause that wouldn't fit into the list, since it isn't a serie it would look out of place. (and many find it a piece of garbage, but I'll not give into temptation)

I don't play any multiplayer FPS anymore, but CS 1.6 is still pretty awesome.

I wanted to put Planetside. Then I wanted to go with ARMA. But since those aren't listed, I guess I'll go with Battlefield.

Battlefield. Ever since I played 2142, I have found no better FPS series out there.

MAG gets my vote. It is probably the most fun FPS I've played to date and the games are usually quite epic in nature. I also like how there is cemented teams, rather than just getting a random team when you join. I just wish it was more popular as the Valor team is lacking right now.

It depends on my mood. Overall, halo, in particular halo reach, years of trial and not much error culminating in multiplayer perfection.

For large scale battles, battlefield. Nothing else recreates the explosive chaos of battle so well.

For really team based gameplay, brink. I know, it's not in a poll, but nothing else has made teamwork and my contribution to said team seem so crucial. I love playing the team engie or medic.

Because they have fans, and are each pretty awesome.

OT: Eh, tough one between Battlefield and Halo, each for different reasons. Guess I'd say battlefield, just because of the big emphasis on teamwork, and because tank v tank battles make me feel tingly inside.

I really enjoyed CoD's upgrading elements in the multiplayer. It gets my favour.

I haven't played a lot of games in multiplayer, essentially just Halo, CoD and a Battlefield or two. Played CS years ago and didn't care for it, and Team Fortress I haven't tried more than once.. so I can't really judge it. I've been meaning to try it when I get Live back. Haven't touched Killzone.

I still play COD4 once in a while, but my main ones are TF2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. BC2 is occasionally cheap and frustrating, whereas TF2 has one too many special items by now.
