I thought I was one of the few people seeing that because of the cookies on my...
I mean, what is porn?

I normally don't like complaining about the ads and stuff like that on here. They pay attention. And the last time I complained about an ad, it got taken down almost imidately--remember the zombie nurse ad? And the Escapist could probably use the money.

If the Escapist is using the standard modern ad revenue arrangement, nobody has to click on the ads for them to get paid. In the very, very early days of ad banners, it was click based, but these days almost everything is on a page view basis; basically, the more people who go to a page on The Escapist that carries a given ad, the more Themis Media (the company that owns The Escapist, for anyone who doesn't know) gets paid for putting it up on the site.

You know daystar, I think the pubclub is actually missing out on this one, thanks to things like this:

Sweet Mother of God, man. Do you never check your inbox?

Since it is game related technically, then I really don't have an issue with it. Now if it was saying something like "BARELY LEGAL TEENZ READY TO BLOW!!!11!" that would be a different story...
This, basically. I really can't get that mad. Porn is a product like any other. Hell, this could even be seen as a step forward if the ads were a little more discreet, and weren't on a gaming site. Like someone else said, porn ads on a gaming site just make us all look like premature neckbeards. In the eyes of everyone else at least.

I'm a member of several groups, the last of which I just turned the chat notifications off for a week or so ago. It's a lot lower than it was before that; I've had up over 1000 unread messages in the past.

letter recetly written to moderators;
I just had a WTF moment. What's up with these sugarDVD ads? I understand that it's for a PS3 app thing so no direct link, but still. despite language i find this site to be mostly family friendly and PG-13. i leave this site open in my living room with my children sometimes. I'd rather not have these ads around.
Yeah i'm not okay with this. maybe i'm wrong i should password block this site, but that going to cut way down on my time spent here.

DID YOU HEAR THAT ESCAPIST? THESE ADS ARE COUNTERPRODUCTIVE. I don't really care about my web-browser and i don't like ad-block because i'd like my pageveiws to help the site out, but this may move me to firefox with an ad-block.

No no, I get the revenue model, but you're still looking at the same issue. Who pays attention to banner ads to inform their pornography choices?
I have no idea, but somebody must; it's not like banner ads for anything else are trustworthy either, aside from projectwonderful.com ads, which yes, are wonderful. And a good way to find new webcomics.

If you've never heard of projectwonderful, it's a company that sells ads with a different revenue model, where people bid for ad space, auction style. For some reason, it's almost exclusively used on and by legitimate webcomic sites.

I would sincerely doubt that they include the Mods in their business model meetings...Mods are not going to know what is going on any more than you or I.

My guess: This was a whoopsy. Someone hit the wrong button or the ad company slipped it in. I've put in a message to the Tech Team with the hopes of getting some kind of verification whether this was meant to happen and The Escapist wants this kind of advertisement put on their site or if it's a whoops and will be eliminated ASAP.

The URLs for the images seem to be consistent. It'd be easy to block just the porn ads. Though, I figure they'll be gone soon enough.

Unless Sugar really IS the only advertiser they could get. :O

Ad networks barely (if at all) vet the ads they serve up to their clients. This is why ads are the number one vector for malware. It's not surprising a porn ad slipped through.

We can't post pornographic images on this website, so I'd say no.
Pr0n has nothing to do with video games, besides the fact you can stream on a game console... so video games?
Logic these days.

Seriously, what if my dad walks in and one of those ads is up?

At least my tax dollars aren't being spent convincing the community here to join the Marines. But I do wish the Escapist wouldn't run adds like this. (I do find it humorous that the pictures are less risque than some game adds.)

I don't mind the CAPTCHA ads, although I do wonder how effective they are since there is a very small pool of possible answers.

It would be funny if they started having porn captcha ads: please type amateur cock lovers or whats your opinion of Sugar DVD or watch this short video and enter which hole she put the dildo in below.

I'm just disappointed that there aren't women dressed as rabbis spanking each other with ham. Now that was a porn ad.

It's not porn ads, it's ads for a feature on a video game console. Therefore, video games.

Sidebar: is it bad that I recognise and can name the actresses in both ads?
