You see, Escapist, this is the problem; every time I turn Ad Blocker off, something has to annoy the shit out of me or something else happens that just makes me want to turn it on after a week. I wish the Escapist could get itself straightened out and not be completely idiotic.

Protip, Escapist; Stop ignoring your fan-base. Just listen and act accordingly. It's not that difficult.

I was questioning why so many sexual related themes were coming up, and I was thinking going incognito wasn't protecting my history... I was just hoping it wasn't me.
But yeah; the adds have made it slightly awkward to visit, shunning it away from passingby family members and such. Also, the add at the bottom of the screen might have been looking at my crotch. Hey, lady, the eyes are up here.

What the shit, Escapist. Really?

If I want porn, I'll go to a fucking porn site where I can see all the porn ads I want.

I DON'T COME HERE FOR PORN
WE CAME FOR INTELLECTUAL DISCUSSION AND VIDYA GAMES, NOT BOOBS!

It angers me mainly because I like to go to this website in public places. Porn ads just don't look good in public places.
I agree. Normally my school's network has banned every single site that may even be slightly offensive (even wikipedia!), but they always ignored The Escapist, and I never really feared reading it in public.

Now I don't trust it so much at my school and to have the entire website blocked while I'm bored between free periods.

The Escapist doesn't realize that be allowing these here, it risks being banned by many networks, and thus lowering traffic, and its reputation. This is a no-brainer; remove the ads.

As a business move, this might not be a good idea. Good taste aside, it alienates female escapists, parents might stop letting their kids visit this site, and working professionals are going to have to consider this a nsfw site.

The sad thing is I recognise at least one of the actresses.
Although I haven't actually seen any ads myself, just pictures of them...
Y'know. Pictures of pictures. On the interwebs,

I do not think that this should be allowed.
Reason 1: This isn't an 18+ site.
Reason 2: It is against forum rules to link to porn, so the entire site certainly shouldn't.

[small]Also, really glad my web browser has a built in ad blocker.[/small]

Yeah this seems kind of odd, does this mean we can link to porn now, because I'm fairly sure linking to porn sites is against the forum rules?
This one laughed, and laughed and laughed.

OT: Eh, I don't mind it persay. However, I am amused with the fact that we can have porn ads on this site available for all ages, but we needed to confirm our age in order to hear Jim talk about gay people.

I don't mind the CAPTCHA ads, although I do wonder how effective they are since there is a very small pool of possible answers.
It would be funny if they started having porn captcha ads: please type amateur cock lovers or whats your opinion of Sugar DVD or watch this short video and enter which hole she put the dildo in below.
The funny part? I seem to remember 4Chan using a picture based version of that last one at some point, like it would show a pair of bare breasts and you'd need to type in "tits."

I really don't think so.

If you were a first-time visitor to the site and the first thing that you saw was porn ads bordering the screen, you wouldn't think, "Hey, a classy site geared toward creative discussion and thought-provoking (yet, agreeably redundant) subject matter in relation to games! Alright!"

I would get the "Yeesh, another sleazy, pandering nerd forum. Not interested..." sort of vibe.

So yeah, I guess I've nothing against pornography.
But dammit, this isn't the place for it.

This is just trashy. On the Podcast they hardly EVER cuss and when they do they usually apologize or get corrected, and NOW they're advertising porn? Come on Escapist take the porn ads away and keep the site family friendly. And no it doesn't matter to me that they're a gaming website and the porn company uses the PS3 as a medium for their distribution.

It is odd and the one on the bottom is a strange photo pick for a porn service. A very CLSOE UP shot of her face? she looks like she is not aware they are taking a picture of her. I kinda feel bad for her as the picture does her no justice.

Oh what the topic was about there being pictures not that they are bad pictures....oooh.

I am cool with it as long as I can link porn sites too and I will do it for free.

OT: Pubclub master race!

shows up at assembly

realizes that pub club is no more

awkwardly shuffles out

OT: Yea, I hope that this was a mistake. I don't think the Escapist would knowingly have porn adds.

I also noticed that the June 2012 edition of PC Gamer had an advertisement for an adult shop (page 13 for anyone who has the copy or is planning on buying it)
I do not understand why these advertisements are needed.

Advocating adblocker is against the rules.

Since it is game related technically, then I really don't have an issue with it. Now if it was saying something like "BARELY LEGAL TEENZ READY TO BLOW!!!11!" that would be a different story...
This, basically. I really can't get that mad. Porn is a product like any other. Hell, this could even be seen as a step forward if the ads were a little more discreet, and weren't on a gaming site. Like someone else said, porn ads on a gaming site just make us all look like premature neckbeards. In the eyes of everyone else at least.
The point is porn is something they ban users for. But they have ads for it now. I mean, lets have an iota of consistency, yeah?

I'm not, personally, bothered by porn or the ads.. but I don't think they should be putting them on a gaming website that many people visit from all different places.

That said.. there seems top be a lot of sex themed threads over the last few days.
