Portal 2, it was longer and felt a lot more polished than the first. Also no bloody cake jokes. Officially, this is probably one of the few sequels that have felt better than their predecessor. Not to mention the second was about ten times more hilarious.
the cake was replesd whit the deer the DEER IS A LIE

Give me a both option...
Agreed.

I voted for Portal 2, largely because it was a bigger game. Everything I loved in Portal 2 I also loved in the original, but it was more polished in the sequel.

Portal 2 - due to the hilarious nature of the game and it also has co-op which makes the game twice as long! :D its great!

I love them both but Portal 2 is far better. While the puzzles are easier they're more complex them Portal Classic was.

Portal 2.

Cave Johnson, Wheatly, singing turret, companion cube and the unholy alliance of GlaDOS and Chell.
"Want You Gone" is as good as "Still Alive" is...

As for Portal 3... No, Portal 2 has a good closure. Don't need of a Portal 3. Instead make Chell the Half Life 3 protagonist... Shut up, I can dream...

Portal 1.
My problems with portal 2 are as follows.
1) I saw the turn of Wheatly and the Glados being Carol a mile away.
2) The puzzles were really easy for me, the only time I got stuck in the game was when you first get into the old aperture and you have to put a portal behind that broken door to get behind it, but that isn't even a puzzle.
3) Way too many walking parts, seriously you're walking through the abandoned or back of the lab way too much and throw in the fact that a lot of these end up being times where absolutely no dialogue happens it gets rather boring.
4) Felt a bit short for me, I completed it in a single sitting in 5 hours (not going by steam time, I sat down @ 11:50pm, ended @ 5a.m.
5) I wanted more interaction with the new spheres, they actually have a ton to say, but under the time constraint it is a bit hard.
6) I wanted a bit more info on what happened to the Old Aperture, I mean who builds new facilities one on top of another? Level design it works, but logic-wise its a bit meh.
Did you really just complain about Aperture not being logical?

I did this thread a week ago. Eh who cares.

OT: Portal 2 had slightly better... EVERYTHING. Seriously it slightly improves on literally every single aspect of Portal 1. From Soundtrack, to Level Design, to characterization.

Sum of it's parts, though: It was simply a better game.

portal was an experiment so it wasn't the full idea yet, it was still great but it the second one allowed a better plot and more innovation with the mechanics

Strangely enough, I liked the first better even though the second is just better in every way I can think of. Probably because the novelty of the Portal Gun has worn off by the time the second game comes around and you just trudge through another batch of puzzles. Hell, for the first chapter or so they're exactly the same anyway, which probably pissed me off more than anything Valve's ever done.

Overall, I preferred Portal 2, but I would have preferred that it was as hard as its predecessor

Each had its own advantages and disadvantages. Many will argue that portal 2's puzzles were easier. That's only half true. So far in my playthrough of the sequel, I haven't encountered the most annoying part of the first game: Those things that shot a little yellow ball that you had to guide to a receptor. You know what I mean. There were lots of em in the companion cube level, and the balls ricocheted everywhere. Those things made the puzzles difficult--cheap, really--, and I'm glad they removed them from portal 2.

This is pretty much my point. In the first game, puzzles were difficult only when they were slightly unfair. It was less of sorting through a complex puzzle, it was more of "Put everything in just the right place, bounce x around just right, and you win."

On the flipside, I was able to figure things out faster in portal 2. Maybe that's just because only now have I really got my head around the spacial reasoning and concept of the portals.

What about coop, though? I find the puzzles in coop more tricky.

They're both better than pretty much anything else, but Portal 2 is more like portal[sup]2[/sup], so it's the epic-ness of Portal 1 squared. It's the greatest game I've ever played!
