I really wanna know what happened to Chell...
She dead.

The second game should be in the male section of the facility.

All the helpful hints on the walls would be replaced by phalic images and insults.

This was a triumph.
I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.
*snip*
And when you're dead I will be still alive.
STILL ALIVE
You missed a 'still alive' at the end.

Wasn't GLaDOS blown up? If I recall correctly, only a bit of "her" survived, the one that could sing obviously :p Although the song was called STILL ALIVE so I guess it fucks up my theory >.<

Portal 2 would be good and hopefully Valve will stick to their high standards when it comes to sequels and not rape our memories of the first game (I'm looking at you Sonic Team).
Pish. 16-bit wars are over... the first Sonic game wasn't that good: Stop fronting.

Portal doesn't feel like a game in need of a sequel.
That is it right there. The only thing a sequel can do is screw things up. All that will happen is you will be doing the same basic puzzles and the charm of the first one will be lost. Why can't we just have an original game and leave it at that? Why do we keep buying into these sequel after sequel and oh lets not make it a sequel cuz it is a different character BS. Just let it be a classic original 1 in a million game.

Secondly, use the search bar. You're about to be bombarded by a bunch of assholes who will tell you the exact same thing.

I'm one of those assholes. Use the search bar [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.111472#1955179]

On topic, I don't want a Portal 2. In my opinion, Portal was a one hit wonder. They would not be able to replicate the success of the first game.

The main thin that made Portal so amazing in the first place was the sheer originality. The idea of the gun was a new concept and worked perfectly, on top of that there was GLaDOS, the most awesome villain ever created. The lines were nothing short of genius. Even the lack of a soundtrack was fine because of her lines. Now onto the topic, in some ways portal 2 is a good idea, but the originality will be gone. Sure it will still be fun but it won't be as new. And yes, if GLaDOS was in the game it would automatically get points, but for people who played the first, would seem annoying. You know she's just going to try and kill you, why bother? So, if Valve can think of a new concept that still has great writing and the fun of shooting portals, then I'm all for it.

I don't know, I'd really like to know what happened to Glados, Chell and the Companion Cube, but Portal doesn't feel like a game in need of a sequel.
Companion cube was burned in an incinerator, if you dont remember...
Im sorry, theres nothing we could do. Cube is gone. D:

Im fine with it being in the same engine - I just want more dicking around with a portal gun, and of course, puzzles...

*Fingers crossed for antlions*

I hope glados is Ok though, I liked her :D

Even after she went psycho at the end...

Hmm. It could be a good idea, as long as they change the gameplay drastically. The atmosphere and quality of Portal will still be awesome in Portal 10, but the puzzles, while truly great, will lose some of it's awesomeness in a sequel. I found the extra stages in Portal: Still Alive entertaining, yet I don't want more from where that came from.

Conclusion: yes, Portal 2, with the same atmosphere and overall quality, but a new idea to base the puzzles on.

Though I now shall go against the stream and say that Portal was the Orange Box's weakest part, I wouldn't hesitate one second on buying the sequel. Valve are afterall masters on making sequels.

Not that Portal was bad, Half-Life 2 and TF2 is just lightyears ahead. But it is better than L4D.

Explain why you needed to put the entire song in this thread.
Because it's awesome.

And it's a Portal thread.
By that logic I should put every single line of dialogue from Portal into this thread, just because it's a Portal thread.

Also Still Alive sucks.

On topic: I can't wait for this game to come out. If Valve really takes a hint, they'll give it more than 15 hours of gameplay. The first just wasn't nearly long enough.
I actually disagree - portal was a great length. 15 hours is enough so the game stay fresh and new throughout the main storyline, plus the advanced maps add a LOT to the gameplay, so do the achievements.

I'm a big fan of main storylines being epicly cool and about 10-15 hours long, then having a ton of content to expand the game for those that want more, everyone wins!

If they just released the same game with much more advanced graphics, I'd still buy it. That game is amazing.

I don't know what physics they could abuse next. Time? Gravity? Imagine a gun that manipulated energy, matter, space and time.

In my opinion, Portal, like Bioshock, does not need a sequel. Portal said what it had to say and it made a huge impact on the industry. The game, as a unit, was complete. And now, instead of building on a previous franchise, I think Valve should look to create another inpendent franchise of Portalian impact.
