I think it's largely forgettable. When I finished Portal1, I listened to 'Still Alive' over and over. I found the words and memorised much of it. I finished Portal2 today. Watched the credits, then played some TF2. I have no desire to watch or listen to 'Want you gone' again.

Well it is!

Anyway, I preferred the Still Alive song. But it wasn't bad

Just you wait. At some point the tune will come back to you, and then you'll want to go back and listen to it to memorise the words, and then it begins...

The song itself is a good one, but not nearly as memorable as Still Alive. It's an excellent song, a above-average Jonathan Coulton song, and a mediocre Portal ending song, in order of standard.

The turret opera was excellent, and "Lunacy" was one of the best game endings I've ever seen, although I'm sad that Valve is now doing normal cutscenes.

Fair enough about the Caroline deleted thing, I must've missed that. Maybe she means that she now has a conscience of her own (afterall she calls it her own voice), while her concious previously was Caroline's digitised personality. That is until that failed and she killed everyone in the Aperature Science facility. She was never really Caroline incarnate, though Cave Johnson probably wanted that, but heej, he's Cave Johnson.

Afterwards however, I reckon that she thinks she can now do without the Caroline part holding her back.

But regardless of the Caroline thing, it does make perfect sense why she doesn't kill Chell. She still saved her afterall. Doesn't need the Caroline thing.

As for the Companion Cube, GLADoS still makes those things, hence making the "and take your shit with you" train of thought rather odd. Mind you, I think she has both the "get the fuck out" attitude and friendly attitude. Sure, she saved her and all, but she still got in the way of the all-important science. Hence why she still wants Chell out of her sight. Killing her is too much now though, as they've know sorta bonded, in a twisted way.

It?s not going to make a stir quite like Still Alive did but it?s good, humorous and more than a little catchy.

The real triumph was the turrets opera. As unexpected as Still Alive but several billion times more beautiful. It?s a big chunk of why Portal 2?s ending is so good. Seriously it;s not often you get kicked out of a testing facility while simultaneously being treated to the best lift music in the world.

It's definitely not as instantly catchy as Still Alive, but I have a feeling that after a couple more listens, I'll like it way more.

I'm so sick of Still Alive.

Though Mirror's Edge's "Still Alive" is still fucking awesome.

EDIT: After listening to it again, "Want You Gone" definitely sounds a bit Aimee Mann-ish.

Which is awesome.

It seemed an obvious throwback to the first game considering it was a burnt companion cube not any regular old cube

It's been stuck in my head for a year.
That's right, it's been stuck in my head for LONGER THAN PORTAL 2 HAS BEEN OUT.
Somebody help.

I didn't like it that much at first, but it grew on me really fast, and now I *might* like it more than Still Alive.

But really, I don't think the two songs should be compared. The biggest reason for this is that Sill Alive was the surprise icing on the cake (no pun intended) on a already amazing game that nobody saw coming. But everyone knew that there would be a song at the end of Portal 2, and it was even announced that Jonathan Coultan signed on to do another song. So it was pretty much impossible for any song, no matter how awesome, to have the same effect that Still Alive did.

So yeah, basically what I'm saying is that they're both great songs, made for two different games, that I don't think should be compared to one another.

Liked it more than Still Alive to be honest. I completely missed the boat with Still Alive.

Not really. It sounded less like it was being sung by a robot and more like it was just a regular woman singing with too much autotune going on. Because really, that's how it sounded to me. A lot of the time it sounded like just a regular woman, and then here and there they sprinkled in some auto-tune. I was thinking "Who dat woman and why is she singing to me?"
I think that was a deliberate way of showing how she's become more human.

As a song, Still Alive was better, but for fitting with the game Want You Gone was just perfect.

All in all, yes. Yes it was triumph.

You could even say it was a huge success...

If you look closely it actually IS the companion cube from the first game. The design of companion cubes are different in both games and that's the only cube with the original design. Also the burned thing.

Good song... but not as good as "Still Alive".

The line "You've got your short sad life left" works pretty well with "and when you're dying I'll be still alive."

Also I think there should have been an interjection by Caroline in the line "Now little Caroline is in here too" -- "HELP ME!"

I enjoyed that song. I think it has better vocals, but the novelty still needs to build up like still alive.

I prefer Want You Gone for two reasons.

1. It's better as an actual song, to be honest.
2. It reminded me very much of the Luigi's Mansion theme at points, and that's a definite plus.
