"The Cake is a lie" Can be a metaphor for an atheist if you put it in the right way. Lets break down the phrase so it makes sense.

-sniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip-
Patton Oswalt already did this without realizing it. Google "sky cake" and you'll find the bit he did and analyses of it. While I don't agree with what he said entirely or mostly or even 50% it was a pretty good metaphor and a pretty good bit.

Oh dang, 7 pages, someone might have mentioned it already and I'm not going to check. Oh well.

Very well. If you believe in God, and you're right, you'll go to Heaven. If you're wrong, you die. If you don't believe in God and you're right, you die. If you don't believe in God and you're wrong, you'll be punished/purgatory/etc or you may even go to Heaven. Depends who you ask really. Point is, you've got more to loose.
That's no reason to believe in something.
I think this may stem from The Simpsons but it works nonetheless:

This rock, right there on the side of the road, is keeping away tigers!
What? That's crap.
Yeah? Do you see any tigers around?
Hm, guess you're right. *picks up rock and pockets it*

Irrational fear should not be used to inspire faith. And, to give credit where credit is due, most religious people I know say they don't believe because of "fear what happens otherwise" but for other reasons. You're one of few people I know of who argue in favor of religion using the fear-argument.

Well, as for the OP: Sure, you can do that, but as said by others, "The cake is a lie" is so general a statement it can be applied to pretty much anything in life.

Thank you for this post. I love it when people show me something that was previously invisible to me. The way you turned this metaphor around was very intriguing.

Wait what? Have you read anything I said, or is that it? Even the context of that? That's using logic. I'm not saying it's a reason for anything. i was using it because atheists always bang on about logic this and that, and someone ws told me that so I repeated it. Of course fear isn't a valid reason for faith, don't be so ridiculous.
Alright, guess I misread it, but it's still not a logical argument (to whoever provided it to you) because it's not a logical fear. We have no indication of an afterlife, let alone Hell, so it's not rational to fear them, either. If you base your logic on an illogical premise, the whole argument becomes illogical - obviously.

Like I've said many times in this thread, religion can make people happy. I don't think there's anyone left who fears God these days.
I never disputed that (I even said that the people I know don't believe because of fear) and I even like the effects religion can have on a strictly personal level.

To that effect, I invented the Elephant Repulsion Dance, which has been keeping the elephants away from me since March 4th, 2009.

If I believed in God, I'd be scared of him. Have you ever read the Old Testament? Dude's a psycho!

It just makes more sense to go with the option that bears greatest reward with nothing to loose, doesn't it?
Well, but if I followed that logic, I'd have to practice all faiths, today's and yesterday's, and there'd be an unlimited number of other illogical things to be afraid of. How would I, as an atheist, come to the conclusion that I should practice Christianity and not, say, Roman mythological customs, for the highest degree of safety?

What I'm saying is that, to a non-believer, neither of these nor any other religion makes sense. Who am I to assume Islam is more correct than Egyptian beliefs? Or Hinduism? Or the Great Oak Tree? Or belief in the Norse gods?
We cannot function on that premise.

A believer believes in one particular religion that he or she follows.
But if I believe in none of them, why should I practice them?
And more importantly, why should I practice one particular religion I don't believe in as opposed to another religion I don't believe in?

Proof that it must work. I'll adapt it.
So is that step-step-turn-hop or step-hop-step-turn?

You know, religion and context is so deserve that I could add it into anywhere. Even without it, I could put any metaphor I want into any form of media with a little thought.

and here is my rebuttle

try to prove it

is the universe real?? how can something with infinate boundries be defined as a thing? i think we would have to know the boundries of the universe before we can without a doubt prove its existance

If the universe exists, your statement is wrong. If the universe doesn't exist, neither does your statement. Therefore, your statement can only exist in a state where it is incorrect.

It does not have an infinite size. Due to the curvature of space-time, the universe is curled up in a sphere, where if you go in a straight line faster than then speed of light, you'd end up where you started.

These are my thoughts:
Religious people can't prove their religion.
Atheists can't prove Atheism.
Now, let's just respect other people's opinions and go about our merry lives, without trying to convince people you are right and they are wrong. okay?
1) The world is founded on religion and its absurdities. No atheist can avoid religious law.
2) Religion causes hatred and murder to this day. Why should an atheist respect that?
Sex causes hatred and murder every day. Money causes hatred and murder every day. The thing these things have in common? People.

The weirdest thing I've heard all day. Where the hell did you get all that from?!

Someone needs to stop reading between lines that aren't there.
