I do it but only for absolute must have items. I don't preorder a lot though. only if it comes with actually cool extra stuff or i absolutely need it on release day.

I cant remember the last time a game wasn't available on the day it was released. I love going into game stores and having the clerk tell me "Oh you better pre-order it so your sure to get your copy!"

Why? Think you will run out? How many are incoming?

"umm....500 copies"

You think your going to sell all 500 copies of Wrath of the Lich King? hmmm ok. Yeah I'll just buy it when it comes out thankyou.

lol

I pre-order games if I'm really sure I'm going to play them for a while. I mainly pre-order big multiplayer games so I can be playing with friends when it comes out. Single player can wait sometimes because I can play those at any time. Plus, you ususally get pre-order bonuses.

Generally pre-orders come with some kind of bonus, so I usually prefer to do that.

I never preorder because there is always some store that has a silly good sale on the games for whatever reason a week or so later. For example, I got L4D2 for $30 (PC) and Assasin's Creed 2 for $40 about 2 weeks after their release.

Yes. Pre ordering games is great. By the time I go and pick them up, I have forgotten that I paid full price on them already. I am able to delude myself into thinking I am getting the games for free!

I guess, theoretically, if you had no willpower at all and knew you wanted a game, and had the money for it, but by the time it was released you would have spent it all on Dr. Pepper and cake mix and were out of luck, its a great idea.
In my case, I'd blow it on gas and guacamole dip.

What, exactly, is the point of preordering?

I'm assuming that it helps a distributor get a clear idea of what kind of sales to expect long before the game's released. And so they cook up in-game rewards, etc. with the developers in order to encourage it. Or is it just cashing in on the 'nownownow' instinct with gamers who can't wait another 12 hours to buy a game?

Never preordered anything. I remember standing in line at midnight with my gf to get her copy of Burning Crusade. After installing, patching, and queueing up for her realm, she played for about 30 minutes and went to sleep.

Then I stopped by Best Buy after work the next day and got one of their bazillion copies with no trouble.

I do pre-order games, but i don't do it all that often. I have to KNOW that i want the game enough and i have to KNOW that it will be good.

For example, i pre-ordered MW2, why, because i KNEW i would eventually get it, so why not get it at the start.

And i also Pre-Ordered Dirt 2. I knew i would love it because it got better in almost everyway, and i knew that it would.

So i acually don't pre-order that much, but i still do it from time to time.

I don't really care about playing something as soon as it comes out, I can wait. Saves money and effort.

I usually pre-order, but after research. Usually I end up pre-ordering a multipack and splitting it though.
