I tend to preorder games I am really excited about. StarCraft 2, Heavy Rain and Dragon Age 2 are some examples of games I have preordered, and Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 are examples of games I plan to preorder in the future. That said, I regret preordering about half of them. It is often sensible to wait until reviews and a demo come out. Maybe even some gameplay videos of youtube.

I preorder things I'm pretty much guaranteed to like such as Gears of War 3, Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 but I never preorder the first game in a new IP ever since Too Human destroyed a lot of my dreams.

We don't generally have problems of availability where I live (except for Halo: Reach, which I didn't preorder and still got the day of release by guilting the lady at the register into giving me an unclaimed preorder copy), so I don't generally preorder stuff. If memory serves, the last game I preordered was Super Smash Bros. Brawl, because FUCKING SUPER SMASH BROS.

I pre-order some games that i really want and don't care about reviews or am sure of their being great anyway. I'm going to pre-order Skyrim, I pre-ordered L.A. Noire, I'll probably pre-order RAGE, Uncharted 3 and Mass Effect 3

Yeah, when I'm getting a game on release day.

English retailers work differently to American ones - you don't have to pay upfront for the service, and there's no penalty for not collecting. There's no reason not to preorder.
Well, in America you have to put down a $5 minimum, so it isn't as if you gotta pay right away.
Granted, your system is better, but ours isn't far behind.

I have preordered games. I don't do it very often though. I'll probably preorder the new AC GoW MW3 and BF3.

There's an actual game called Space Marine? Why not just go all the way and call it Shooter Man or... Big Explosions?

To date, my pre-orders have included LittleBigPlanet 2, Patapon, and Patapon 2. Patapons 1 and 2 were because you could get the demo early by pre-ordering them. LBP2 was because I got the collector's edition. So... not horribly often, but it's generally more due to fact that I can't go to gamestop and such very often.

AWW you ninja.
That was the first game I pre-ordered in a while, just because of the randomness of the swag.
this was my Captcha.

plus you can also have the 5 refunded if you get word the game is bad.

Yes. But only with Valve :p

I only pre-order games if there are benefits to buying them in advance. Also I only do it for games in which I deeply trust the developers, like the creative assembly with any total war game, Ubisoft with assassins creed, bioware with mass effect... anything valve make.

I am so glad I waited for Duke Nukem though!!! I am glad I didn't pre-order that pile of shit.

Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine. Having an idea of what it is you're detracting before opening your mouth saves you from looking like a fool.

I don't usually preorder games, because at this point its really just a formality. You can just walk into any store on launch day and there will be plenty on the shelves.

I do, however, make exceptions. Namely, the collectors editions of Halo 3, Halo Reach, and Gears of War 2. Also Portal 2.
I'll be placing my preorder for Gears of War 3 collectors edition soon too, I'm just waiting to see which stores will have the best exclusive content deals.

I usually only preorder when I KNOW I won't be able to live without the game a moment after the release day, and/or it comes with some sort of discount (Portal 2, for example, was discounted for preorders).

Classic Escapist user. Getting genuinely offended over absolutely nothing. ;)

Back on-topic: I used to pre-order all the time out of fear of games selling out on day one, but now I realise that pretty much never happens.

I have never pre-ordered.
I always wait for the price to drop, the exceptions being two games for the PS2 (shortly after I had started seriously getting into gaming) and inFamous (because I wanted a good game for the PS3 I was buying along side it).

I wonder if I should rethink this with Skyrim and Saints Row: The Third coming out, but then I remember that Bethesda will probably release over $40 DLC and Volition at least $20 DLC.

I definitely remember I pre-ordered the DS release of Chrono Trigger, Starcraft 2 and Pokemon Black, as well as Hydrophobia on Steam. Those are really all the pre-orders I've done; I don't tend to go for pre-order bonuses.
