I personally am not sure but i wanted to see how other people view it
I usually don't do it, unless I've already done everything with the online and want to start fresh. So it really depends on how much you've unlocked and whether you're willing to drop it all for an extra slot and maybe some goodies

i didnt see the point in prestige all in MW -_- and then you just lose everything you wasted your life getting all the guns and stuff but in MW2 you keep the guns i guess maybe ya prestige is ok along as you dont mind losing your rank tbh i only think CoDMW2 is fun when your playing with friends

Prestige once to get the Prestige Titles for your weapons and Prestige Challenges then don't do it again, it's a pain in the ass, until I get back my WA2000 Thermal Scope with Extended Mags I'm useless in a game of Team Deathmatch... -.-
*Edit* Ok I take it back, since I just had the best games of my life, only level 29 First Prestige and racked up 32 - 2, 29 - 1, those where my best games rest were decent, all I was using was Hellfire Missile, Harrier Air Strike, Chopper Gunner and M4A1 Assault Rifle. =)

well i prestige because there's no point in not prestiging
I have the opposite view. There is no real point in prestiging unless you like doing the same thing ten times in my opinion.

I've never gotten a High enough level to Prestige, and unless the final Prestige is the golden cross of russia like in Cod4, I doubt I ever will.

It took me SO long to get to lvl 56, so I don't plan on Prestiging any time soon just for some emblem...

Definitely don't. There's no point in losing all your guns and achivements for a slightly different medal it just sucks...stay at leval 70 and enjoy the fucking game
This. QFT. The first time i prestiged, i regretted it every second. Now im at Lvl 70 on my first prestige and I'm quite content staying right there.

I'm nearing the end of my time in First Prestige. I may do again.

Basically it boils down to: do you value more callsigns, challenges, emblems and the fun you have have ranking up over particular weapons and perks you love?

Personally I really missed Cold-Blooded, Ninja, the Stinger and Scavanger. I didn't really miss much else.

A couple of my friends are going all the way with prestige...
I never did in CoD4, though, and I still topped the boards.

I don't see a need for that to change in MW2, frankly.

I'm not because I just don't care too. i don't feel there is a real point to it besides saying I've spent a lot of time playing this game

I did it for lack of something better to do lol. if you like new titles.. go for it.. you get some new ones running thru a 2nd time. the extra class is whatever lol. If you worked reeeeal hard for that fall camo and you love it.. then don't lol.. you'll only cry yourself to sleep when you lose it. once you're there... you can prestige anytime you'd like.. so don't rush it

People who refuse to prestige consistently get placed with other players who have not prestiged.

Essentially, if you want to pit yourself against better payers, then yes, prestige.

No. Its just pointless busy work to look good.

It's for those who have nothing else going for them so they try to have the best rank in the game to feel some sort of acomplishment.
As a person who doesn't even own a copy of MW1 or MW2, let me say this: It's a challenge.

Get it? A challenge? You know, the thing that makes games fun? You can say that anyone with enough time can prestige to max, and that's true, but prestige-ing is more about going back to basics. No frills. After playing with your thermal scopes and laser sights and awesome weapons, it's a challenge to go back to the plain old crappy guns, and work your way back up.

Seriously guys, it's not that hard to understand.
