Entirely subjective, entirely up to the individual. Personally, I think there has to be some physical attraction for that part to work, but the rest is less about finding someone that's perfect or perfect for you, and more about finding someone you can just be yourself with and who can be his/herself with you.

I've been with all kinds and I've learned the hard way that it's true what they say about beauty being skin deep.

I won't lie; my standards are high. But I don't just look at the beauty of the subject of my affections. They often ARE quite beautiful to me. For example, a person that has a beauty that takes my breath away also probably has one of my other required traits; self respect. And I can smell when she doesn't respect herself, reguardless of her beauty, So one is not the other.

My idea of beauty is of course exclusive to me. :) Oodles of make-up does not beauty make.

Depends, there are women I'd love to sleep with because they are hot. There are women I'd like to get to know/be in a relationship with because they pretty.

Of course, my definition of hot isn't the stereotypical one. Big boobs, big arse? No thanks.

Cristina Scabbia, smoking hot. Talena Atfield, damn hot.

I don't find myself attracted to "cute" however, Instead they fall into almost a "little sister" catagory.

It's like you're saying all interesting girls are just little boyish things and all hot girls are rocks.
Like I said, you can use your own definition. I'm sure someone somewhere has that definition, you have your own. It's a matter of opinion.

i like cute girls myself. a cute personality and a cute body. i hate "hot" chicks, they are just bitches for the most part. i went to cal poly and most of the chicks their were just cookie cutter bitches but they also had some of the most awesome people. its was sort of like sorting through crap to find diamonds

I like pretty over hot, I'm certainly not above being 'wowzered' by a hot woman but as an actual partner I think I'd prefer an ordinary girl who is just cute and sweet rather than someone who is akin to a supermodel. Largely this is because I prefer girls who look and feel more human.
This is still why Ellen Page is my ultimate celebrity crush.

I don't really like using the term "hot"

It sounds too sexual and almost sexist in a way. When someone says "hot" they're probably thinking about just the sexual part of it. That's why I like cute, pretty or beautiful.

OT, though, I like non traditionally hot girls. Small breasts, nice figure, intelligence, personality and glasses are a bonus :D

So, I guess pretty or cute by normal standards
I have glasses, but I'm a guy, so that idea just flew out the window. Well, technically I only need them for reading things, but whatever.

Also, the term "hot" (same goes for the term "chick") seems derogatory and rude, I hate using it. I say pretty a lot more often.

I'm honestly a bit disgusted by the general attitude in this thread. Hot girls are just nice bodies with empty personalities? Girls like that certainly exist but they're no more the rule than pretty girls with princess complexes. I'm also confused as to when hot became all about the body. I've always used pretty to describe girls who are physically attractive, beautiful to describe pretty girls with the confidence to back it up and hot to describe beautiful women with the sexuality to set me on fire. It's got nothing to do with cup size. Sasha Grey is one of the hottest women I've ever seen in my life and she certainly doesn't have a giant chest. So going by my own parameters, hot is going to win this one every time.
You're doing exactly the wrong line of thinking. Like I said in my earlier post personality really isn't part of the equation the thread starter asked. They simply asked if we liked pretty girls or hot girls more. That was a question solely about physical appearance. I can't say that everyone in here is saying "hot girls have bad personalities" and in fact I think only one or two people actually stated that. So I can't really see where you're getting that assumption.

As for myself, I stated that I like a good personality but that alone isn't enough. I also stated that my PREFERENCE (there's that word again) is for girls who fall on the cute side or pretty side. I have met of girls who are both drop-dead gorgeous/hawt/or whatever other term you want and have equally nice personalities. However, that isn't my preference.

I'm not saying you're wrong or anything. I'm merely saying you shouldn't be so quick to label all of us a certain way without stopping to actually read all we've said.

I could go either way, but for me Ron White [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gxKStPXyn8] says it best:

In a perfect world, we'd all be able to find the perfect combination of pretty and hot, but in reality, I think there's definitely a priority list when finding someone. For me, it goes as such;

- Makes me laugh, and enjoys my sense of humour. Absolute biggest must for me - if you can make her smile with her eyes, and she makes you laugh, that's one to go for. This generally happens if she shares your interests and is a similar level to you intellect-wise too.

- A kind, pretty face. Most girls can pull off a sexy face, and seeing someone who can shift from adorable 'cute' eyes to devious come-to-bed eyes is just... wow.

- Voice. I have a fascination with voices and there are just some accents and pitches that either a) get me worked up or b) turn me right off. Picky, maybe, but it's one of the things I notice first.

- Body. While it would be nice if every girl could pull off the three factors above and still have a smoking bod, those that do are generally the kind that are very, very taken. It's not something that bothers me all too much, but as a general rule, girls who are super skinny are a no-no. Hollywood might like it, but not me. Curves are womanly and attractive, little girl hips are not. Monica Bellucci is an example of a woman with an attractively proportioned body.

I'd say if a girl pulls off the first two factors, she's definitely going to have my undivided attention! *grin*

Personality shouldn't be part of the discussion between pretty and hot but it definitely is in this thread. The sentiment expressed by the OP that's been agreed with and echoed is that pretty girls have nice faces and personalities while hot girls have nice bodies and...that's all. The people directly stating that all hot women are bitches don't bother me in the least. That's just stereotypical nerd bitterness. It's the damnation by omission I was referencing. I definitely didn't label everyone or even anyone specifically in a certain way, and I certainly have nothing against anything you've said. I only expressed dismay towards an attitude that is definitely present. I apologize if I wasn't clear enough.

This was brought up in part by a conversation I had with a friend of mine.

I, being a fifteen year old boy who has no plans of getting laid anytime soon, like pretty girls, nice faces and personalities, bodies for the most part not included in the equation. However, I know lots of guys and (even more girls) who will pass up the girl (or guy) with a nice face and maybe less than perfect body for the girl with a less than nice face but gigantic breasts (or in the female's part rock hard abs or "justin beiber" hair).

So I'm a bit curious on what the rest of the world thinks. You can use whatever definition you would apply.
So...hot consists of looking like you have gone through puberty, while being pretty consists of having a nice smile?

I prefer females who have gone through puberty. Having nice teeth is pleasant, but I would not have relations with someone who is underaged simply because they have a nice face or a nice personality- or for that matter, at all.

You are implying that traits associated with going through puberty and becoming adult are "hot" (boobs, padded butt) and traits associated with both genders and all ages are "pretty"(nice face).

I'd have to say I place value on having gone through puberty and become an adult above all else. I am turned off by a body shaped like a child and prefer a body shaped like a woman. What bothers me about flat chested women is not just that they don't have organs I want to play with, but in many cases they look underaged-they sometimes have body shapes like children and it would creep me out to sleep with that. Flat chested women simply look underaged to me.

I like a bit of both, unless given the degree of hotness is equal-or-greater-than the degree of prettiness. That bends a bit Oliver's First Law of Dating.
Who's first which in the what now?
Yes, Mr. Doctor. Oliver's First Law of Dating. It's sort of an inside joke between me and my brother, and it goes like this:

If said subject's attribute of hotness is equal-or-greater-than his/her prettiness, then said subject is not dateable because of potential head-emptiness.
Ah, that makes sense. :) And you called me The Doctor! *squeeee*
Glad you noticed it. I wasn't sure if it's Mr. Doctor or Mr. The Doctor. Which one is correct?

That is rubbish. Flat chest is awesome and reigns supreme.

Being flat chested and having small breasts are not the same. There is a difference between being flat chested and having small breasts. "Small" breasts can be enough to make a woman look like a woman. But a totally flat chest simply looks underaged.
